- After reacting to Percy Jackson episode 1, I already know that Percy Jackson is going to be one of my favorite tv shows ever!! I went into this reaction totally blind; I knew nothing about the books, characters, plot, or world. So, everything in the first episode of the Percy Jackson tv show was a shock and I LOVED reacting to it!!!

If I remember correctly, even Poseidon wanted to built her a castel, cause she deserves it so much. Every character in this universe loves her instantly. Even Apollo realised why Poseidon fell in love with her, after he meets her in ToA.
Rick Riordan(the author of the books) is one of the executive directors and a writer of the show. The show is a bit different then the book but so far has been a great adaptations

@@WeCouldBeHeroesDesigns "Uncle Rick" is a real sweetheart and a great writer as well. Most of the changes are pretty minor but one big thing he's always been good at is making sure his world remains as inclusive and welcoming as possible, deadly monsters and vengeful gods aside.
@@cthulhuwu_ I LOVE that he’s great with inclusivity and being welcoming to everyone! That’s so special. And I love that the changes in the tv show are mostly minor and that they’re his decisions. He sounds amazing and I can’t wait to read the books!
@@cthulhuwu_also, some of the changes are simply him tweaking improving his story through everything he's learned in the 20 or so years since first writing the book. I love that he got the opportunity to do this

There is not those specific quotes from Sally Jackson in the books, but they are very true to her character. She named Percy after the Greek myth of Perseus, because Perseus was the only hero to achieve a happy ending, and that’s what she hoped for her son. There is also a point in the first book when we meet, Sally Jackson, and Percy says that she is the person who looks at him and sees all of the good and none of the bad. We love Sally Jackson.

Very nice to see somebody who hasn’t read the books react. I mean, I spent the whole thing going “OOOOOH, THEY SAID THE THING!” I’m very glad the show has drawn such a wide appeal - as it should.
That intro was amazing, and it’s lifted almost word for word from the intro to the book. But a lot of the lines were show original, including Sally’s “You are not broken. You are singular.”

I was about 17-18 when these books were coming out and never read them. My 8 year old picked The Lightning Thief up this year and I read along with her so we could talk about it. I cannot count the number of times that I have bawled because of these stories. I was Percy, the scrawny little boy with undiagnosed adhd, but my parents were more concerned with their reputation than my mental health. Hearing a motherly figure tell her son that he’s not broken healed parts of me that I didn’t even realize were hurting.

Young Percy is played by Azriel (Azi) Dalman, he wanted to make sure he looked like Percy. According to Azi IMDB page when Azi go the role whole looked up the project and say Walker had blue eyes so he begged his parents to get him blue contact lenses, I’m also guessing he wanted his hair died (Azi normally has brown hair, brown eyes)

Just little information about Grover as Satyr (not spoiler). You asked , if he was protector shouldn't he have some kicking or fighting abilities as protector?
Umm, the thing is they are Satyr. Half man half goat, that's all they are. They can fight tho, but demigods they had to protect is often stronger than them (even though the demigods are still children). Their job as protector is to seek demigods around the world and get them safely to the camp, that is one of their important job. They usually go to school and act as students or teacher and sniff if there is any demigods around. When they found demigod, they'll inform the camp and plan to how get the kids safely to the camp. They often fight along with the demigods to escape from monsters on their journey to the camp but again, monsters are strong and they don't have demigod power. They are tenacious tho, and always do the best on their job. Often lose life too bcs of it and that's admirable.
Also, Satyr age more slowly than human. Grover is 24 but in human world, he is just teenager around 13-15 in this episode. So yeah, hope that help.

Fun fact. The composer of the score for the Percy Jackson TV show actually also composed the score of Agents of Shield. So you know it’s good.
Also you should definitely read the books. The line where she was like “You are singular.” Is not in the books. But the books are just as quotable. There are some lines that are in the books and aren’t in the show and vice versa. But all of them hold just as much weight.

His mom couldn’t go to the camp on the other side to safety, because since she’s fully mortal, she can’t see or cross the border :(( So that’s why she wishes she had more time since she knew she wouldn’t be able to go with him 😭

Yes, Walker, Percy's actor, doing the shoulder tap with with his mom wasn't in the script, apparently it's something he does with the other cast members a lot. Also the intro narration is ripped straight from the opening of the book

It's so funny that you haven't read these books, because you picked up on some deep-seeded fandom stuff right away! Like, *everyone* hates that bully--Nancy, that you picked up on the "Dumbledore figure" right away, and that you picked up on Sally (Percy's mom) being an absolute QUEEN, while Gabe (the "guy" who was just sitting in the chair) SUCKS. The crazy thing is, Gabe is actually *toned down* in this show from his portrayal in the movies and books. Like, I don't want to spoil anything, so I'll keep some of my thoughts to myself for now, but he is SO. MUCH. WORSE. in all the other portrayals of him.
Also, they'll explain the "blipping" in the next episode, so you'll probably see that tonight if you watch the second episode tonight like you were planning :).

Before I go over the show, fun fact: the teacher on the left at 6:15 is a cameo from the books' author, Rick Riordan (shout out to Uncle Rick!)
Now, coming from the point of view of someone who's been obsessed with mythology of all kind even before he discovered this series: The show is leagues above the 2010 movies. It's not perfect (Gabe and Sally's marriage was definitely more toned down on the troubles), but on the flipside we've got the little details that in the books fleshed out the characters (the blue candy for once). It's going to be very entertaining to watch the reaction of someone who wasn't exposed to the books before :D

Tbf I think Gabe's behavior was toned down due to ratings. It's a kid's show so I can understand the decision to do so
@@Beatriz_MS yeah, I think Gabe's behavior was toned down significantly for the exact same reason why "dummy" is literally the ONLY insult that is ever fucking used on the show.... Because it's on Disney plus and is technically a kids show... And so they HAD to tone the darker aspects of the story down a bit ...which kinda susks watching it as an adult...but also I get it. It's a kids show at the end of the day. 🤷♀️ Do I think they could have made the abusive behavior a little bit more noticeable/blatant?...yeah. I think kids COULD have handled it... to be honest. but they didn't... they definitely went to more comedic route which is whatever.
A harry potter and teen wolf fan? Oh, yes, you are in for a TREAT with Percy Jackson! :D These books are my childhood and I'm loving reliving it with this adaptation and seeing people's reaction who haven't read the books bc it's so fun seeing what new fans pick up on. Please read the books they are a million times better! Though the show is still great the books are truly special so would 100% recommend reading the books as well.

@@WeCouldBeHeroesDesignsoh they are, and they go way more in-depth about the world beyond the mist than the show has so far. The show has fixed some mistakes (in episode 4 they fixed a major mistake in the book regarding a national monument for instance)

It's not explained in the show, but if demigods use cell phones, or really any type of technology, it sends up a beacon that attracts monsters. That's why the camp doesn't have any phones and they couldn't call for help.
I think that's explained later on in the books as well. Not sure though

I like the show so far, it’s been fairly faithful to the books that Rick Riordan wrote, and then with him now, actually being involved in the show, I think this whole show should be good.

Oh my gods you are so charming and precious and I love seeing you fall in love with Percy Jackson just as quickly as I did when I was Percy's age 13 years ago. These books changed the course of my life forever and this adaptation is the most perfect thing I could imagine. It captures the very soul of the original while keeping it fresh by adding new scenes/details/dialogue and adapting the story to fit the structure of a tv show better. I could go through scene by scene and give you all sorts of trivia and adaptation notes if you want! I love gushing about this wonderful story. Gods, for as in love with the books as I was as a teen, rediscovering them as an adult has opened up a whole new world of things to be amazed at by this story and these characters

Awesome video 💯 ‼️as a girl with both adhd and dyslexia I love 🩵💙 seeing how they added all the ADHD symptoms and how it feels to have ADHD. Also the tv series is following the book. 😅😊 Also in that scene where Percy is in the headmaster’s office the guy on the other side of the desk is a cameo of Rick Riordan the author of the books 😅 when one has ADHD we tend to feel like we are broken so that quote by his mum is perfect but they are also gaslighting him to feel even more broken 😅😊

ALSO, forgot to mention, at 14:41: Camp Half-Blood is a *summer camp* . You can stay year-round--Annabeth typically does for reasons that will be revealed in Ep. 4, but you don't *have to.* The Half-Bloods can leave--and most do--but they know that as soon as they step outside of the barrier, they'll be in danger. So, TL;DR: Percy can go home (I won't spoil if he can go home *to see his mom* , but he can go home.)

UA-cam is so much more positive with the show which I prefer.
On reddit it's all "I'm not racist or anything BUT" and if all the lines arent 1v1 to the book and if the characters don't have the exact hair color or exact eyes the show is shit.
But I like it. And Rick Riordan, the author, literally said they would be changing things to make the story more streamlined and setting up arcs and plots early, and cutting scenes that weren't necessary or didn't do much for the story
Also, I love what they do with Medusa, because her encounter in the book is pretty forgettable and shes really a 1-sided character, but her encounter in the show is so much better and she's much more gray, which is way more accurate to her myth
also yes, Sally Jackson is a Queen and the best mom in fiction ever
I LOVE everything about the Percy Jackson tv show!! Obviously I didn’t read the books, but I don’t care at all how a character looks as long as the way they act is true to the story. I wish people could just enjoy the tv show instead of picking out everything that’s different.

And that's even what Rick said in a message defending Leah. He said he put appearances second to character portrayal in casting, and I agree with that. And he even called out people claiming her casting was to "tick a diversity box" and put them down. Like, you're seriously gonna argue with *the author* about if someone fits a character he created? really?

ive been a fan of the books for years now, and in my opinion, the show is absolutely amazing. the books are written from percy’s POV, in percy’s voice, and we get to read percy’s thoughts on everything. but the show gives us a wider view on the events happening, and doesn’t limit itself to percy, so we get to see cool little scenes without him that give a lot more depth to it all.
basically: its as close to perfect as a TV show adaptation could get.

Loved your reaction. Yes, Grover is a satyr. They age slower so it’s not too weird. The intro of Percy’s narration is pretty much word for word from the first page. Yes, the first book is similar to HP but the books after go on their own way.

15:22 Omygod, I'd love to that. I cried on this part too because I relate with Percy so much as someone who just discovered I have ADHD. All my childhood I always thought something's wrong with me and hearing that from Percy's mom feels like healing my inner child.
21:48 We call them Celestial Trio because their weapons are made of Celestial Bronze. The material too is the kind of material that kills monsters, but cannot harm mortals.
The qoute is not in the books! That was such a good addition to the show. Hope you'd read the books because of course the original is always better but this show is close to it. It'll get better in future seasons too the way Harry Potter got even better in the later seasons.

Ok, I get it, I'm not mad, it's just... feels kinda weird😭😭😭
Percy Jackson is a book about single parented/orthan kids with adhd and dyslexia fighting to survive in a world of monsters, that started as a bedtime stories to author's dyslexic and adhd son...
But if you wonder what houses they would've been, Percy is definitely Hufflpuff, Grover is likely Hufflpuff or Griffindor and Annabeth is Slytherin!
Lol totally, I knew nothing about the Percy Jackson story so I used Harry Potter to kinda understand it but I’m getting super excited about how different the Percy Jackson world is to anything else I’ve seen before!! Percy Jackson is definitely amazing and unique. Thanks so much for watching! 😊

The reasons why i think Percy is Hufflpuff and not Gryffindor.
Besides his biggest weakness being loyalty, the main Hufflpuff characteristic, the reason why I don't think he's gryffindor is because in books he never really showed desire to be adventurous or heroic. Everything that he did from the start to the end wasn't to save the world or gods, he did it to save his family and friends(for example, in lightning theif, he didn't care about world, gods or their war, he went on this quest only because he wanted to return his mom back), all he wants is to have normal, PEACEFUL teenage life with his loved ones. I guess my headcanon now is that Percy is a hufflepuff but would choose Gryffindor (we know the sorting hat considers what house you want to be in). Cause I really think he is also fiercely brave to be able to do his the feats he did even at such a young age.

Unfortunately they couldn't run because mortals can't enter beyond the border. If they left, Sally wouldn't have been able to follow them which is why she distracted the Minotaur while Grover and Percy escaped. They had to talk because there's no way Percy would've just up and ran without his mom if she didn't give him those important words. I forget what she said to him in the books but it wasn't the same thing as in the show unfortunately

Percy has adhd and dyslexia in the books, and a lot of his feelings mirror how it feels growing up with adhd and blaming yourself for everything. I have adhd and I cried watching this - Percy Jackson has always been my safe place. Rick Riordan originally told these books as bedtime stories to his son who has adhd and dyslexia, so that he could have a hero to look up to who was like him.

If you want to dive deeper into the story then I would like to suggest reading the books. The cool thing is that, by the time you get to the end of the "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" series and you find that you want more story.... There's another 5 book series that involves Percy and his friends and it's called "the Heroes Of Olympus.
Young percy is Azriel Dalman and yes he's an actual person (not walker scobell cgi) and yes it's such perfect casting

Yeah, unfortunately they have to tone down Gabe's awfulness and abusive behaviors due to the fact that it's a kids show... I assume that they had to do it for the same reason why they have to use the insult "dummy" for every single fucking insult in the show... Dummy is used so often doesn't even feel like an insulting word in the show anymore... And the fact that it's the ONLY insulting word that gets used makes it stick out like a sore thumb to me.
But who knows! maybe we will get flashbacks of Gabe's abusivenesa to Sally in future seasons...kinda hoping...but not holding my breath. Bc kids show. 🤷♀️
Man I enjoy your reactions. I've been wanting to see someone who knows nothing about the show react so gauge that my hype isnt just cause of nostalgia. Also everyone loves Sally Jackson, I love your love of her. I really like how they changed her from the book, shes still as awesome but she was much more passive in the first book compared to the show.
also in the books the monsters turn to dust after being killed and go deep into the underworld (its called Tarturus), its explained more on the second book serise. I'm unsure how much they will explain it in the show so I'm just going off the book and greek mythology. Some other questions you have are explained in the second ep so spoilers lol.

If you think you can handle making 3 long movies into 3 looooooong movies, I (and most fans) highly suggest the extended cuts. But some people just can't sit still for that long without losing their minds (through no fault of the movie), and I can respect people who know their limits.
Personally, I just recently finished a rewatch done in 12 hours over the course of 1 day with only small bathroom breaks during credits and a quick pizza run. But not everyone is built that way. 😅
