Thank you for watching the video, what did you think about episode 1 and this adaptation so far? :)

"I think the first movie was close enough"
So...there was a reason that they had to be readapted

I only meant in some scenes, I didn’t know how far from close the movie was in actuality 😅 but I’m glad it’s being readapted into a show this time around with Rick Riordan involved 🙏🏻
Not sure if you noticed it but in the principal’s office scene the teacher on the left was Rick himself, I didn’t know that until I saw a post on instagram, I love easter eggs/cameos like that :)

just so you know the movie is veryyyy different from the book so things you think are going to happen probably won’t happen 😂

      YEP.
The movie took things from book 2 and put them in the 1st movie
Plus there is two twist in the book vs 1 in the movie.
Also yes Yancy Academy is a boarding school.

The author actually created the story as a bedtime story for his oldest son who had dyslexia and adhd! Greek myths were something they both took interest in and when the author ran out of stories to tell him he created The Lightning Thief as a story to tell his son!

You should do a quizz to find out your cabin before watching the next episode!
It's soo fun to see other people entering the Rick Riordan universe, it's addicting turn away while you still can........

If you are interested in “reading” the books I do suggest the audiobooks. The narrator does a great job of incorporating Percy’s sarcasm and humor. Some of the choices he does for the character’s voice aren’t consistent and some I feel he could’ve done better but other than that it’s a good way to learn the material for those who are dyslexic.

Posiden is the god of horses, but he's also Pegasus' father (fun fact, his mother is Medusa), making him Percy's half brother.

Just so you know: Rick Riordan, the author of the books, was basically in charge of the show. That's why this adaptation is nearly page to screen. They made tiny, minor changes here and there to make the story flow better in a television format. But other than that, it's spot on.
What's really sad about the movies is how they aged up all the characters to uni age. Especially considering the main point of the story is that these are literal children being forced into life and death situations with little to no support groups. It's definitely a metaphor for neurodivergence and queerness. In fact, Rick originally created the series for his son who has dyslexia and ADHD. That way, his son could have a hero like himself that he could look up to.
One of the emails that Rick sent the movie studios was: 'Please don't "sex-up" my children's story'. And yet the studio did everything they could to do the opposite of that.
Overall, the show is absolutely incredible so far. As a child who was queer, autistic and had ADHD, Percy Jackson was the first time I genuinely felt seen by a piece of media. I'm 25 now and I cried watching these first two episodes because I was finally seeing this series that was a huge part of my childhood, finally being done justice on-screen. The entire cast knocks it out of the park so far and I can't wait to see more episodes.

Percy has gone to boarding schools since he was very young, so he moves around from place to place and it is more difficult for monsters to find him, then if he lived in the same place all year round.

The books are fun cause they were written specifically with adhd and dyslexia representation in mind. So they’re a super easy, fun, and engaging read without feeling like it’s being dumbed down or like it’s looking down on its audience! I highly recommend giving them a read!
Warning for the audiobooks: the voice actor is regarded very poorly in fandom for his ~questionable~ choices when voicing POC characters.

The books are worth it. They’re amazing. I suggest getting the audible that syncs with the text. Sometimes you want to look at the text for clarification/spelling. I’ve “read” the books many times!

i am loving the show so far. as a book reader and fan, i can tell that the creators of this adaptation want to encapsulate the tone of the book, while enhancing some aspects with the changes they made. seeing the cast do their best to make this enjoyable for fans makes me soooo happy too :").
with that said, i really love your reaction. your excitement is so infectious! i will definitely be here for your reactions to the next episodes.

Yeah uhm, most of the things you saw in the movies never happened in the books. That's why they readapted percy jackson because the movies were horribly done. So everything you were saying about percy fighting the son of hermes NEVER HAPPENED! THE STUPID MOVIES JUST MADE THAT UP. Sorry, the movies just make me want to rant all day.

When you said the River Nyx, I believe you were combining the river Styx, in the Underworld, and the River Nile, in present-day Egypt. Also there is a primordial goddess named Nyx.

No. Those movies both are so inaccurate to the books it's painful. Percy and Luke didn't fight at the end. The characters were insanely aged up. Dear gods they are horrible

Call me a racist I don’t care. But even I could not get behind the forced ethnicity changes. I mean I grew up hearing about how Annabeth was the typical gray eyed Californian blond girl. And an African American Chiron? I mean come on. I loved characters like Hazel Levesque. Charles Beckendorf, Piper McLean and Reyna Ramirez Arellano. So many actual and amazing and unique characters. But no they did the whole race swap card. These episodes so far are so bland. I mean they do have their moments but with all the hype I expected a bit more. I’m hoping it will get better. And yes they already changed some things. I’m hoping some things change quickly. When is Disney going to realize force inclusion and race swaps don’t work. With so many massive theater movie flops lately one might’ve expected them to realize we want the characters we grew up with.

    • @cosmicriptid

It wasn't forced. They let kids of all races audition and Leah was the one who did the best. Live action is never going to look exactly like the books, that's impossible
