  • Shocked and disappointed with a Forest River 2023 Riverstone Legacy 419RD fifth wheel RV at the Morongo Casino RV Show in Cabazon, CA. This fifth wheel was promoted as having the same MSRP as a Brinkley G4000, but the Riverstone paled in comparison. Despite the high price tag, shocking build quality issues were revealed. Only the Brinkley G4000 stands out as a worthy investment. Don't miss this eye-opening comparison. Check out the Brinkley toy hauler fifth wheel at the end of the video or click the link below to go straight to the Brinkley toy hauler video.

Even though this video focuses on Gen-Y, there is some good info on how Brinkley puts their units through a rugged road test and how they come up with the best hitch and suspension combination including the use of Sumo springs. ua-cam.com/video/1X7gCpF4hpc/v-deo.htmlsi=J9P0cuqi2Q_K8L6_

Did my research in 2018. Bought in February 2020. Bought a 2003 Thor of California Jazz 2770RK with a new roof, for $6000 from original owner. Then, put about $30k into it. Still want to work on suspension next. Probably another $5k. Mine has has lasted 21 years and will probably go another 10 to 20 years. I'll have spent less than $50k. Anything built after 2008 is garbage!!!

There was a time in our 33 years of marriage that we would have taken on the task of remodeling and creating our own customized rv, but now with age and physical limitations we resort to excessive research, a hefty rv inspections budget and a lot of luck and prayer. We bought new a 3 axle Forest River toy hauler and right out of the lot the entrance door opened. It was jigged wrong from the factory. The island sink was not even piped into the gray tank,. and therefore, all the sink water just dumped onto the insulation. It had millions of maggots underneath before we finally found the problem. It was over 23 things wrong , but the factory said it was normal wear and tear after 11 months.

Hi William. I have to ask you if you had the unit inspected prior to purchase? That’s one of the worst stories I’ve heard yet. If not The worst. Unfortunate and disgraceful. We haven’t finalized our rv mode type yet but I’m pretty set on it not being a Forest River or Thor product. Whatever it ends up being it will have an inspection prior to purchase. Not that it’ll make you feel any better but I wonder if an inspector would have even caught that while the unit was brand new still. Certainly after a little usage, but I don’t know if it would have been caught if the unit was never used. Thank you for the heads up and for watching and commenting on my video. Safe travels.👍🏼😎

Hi Scott. I can’t explain it to you if you’re not into RVing. But my answer would probably be the same if we were talking about boats. Same cost comparison. This unit, poor quality and all is still out of my price range, but they sell all the time to folks who can afford them. One of my favorite sayings when it comes to discussions like this is that just because I can’t afford it doesn’t mean it’s not worth the money. I’ll tell you what I do think is worth $200k that I don’t have is a Newmar Canyon Star toy hauler front engine diesel motorhome. Grew up in Elkhart, IN. in and around the RV industry working in many facets from production to management for 15 plus years and exiting after 7 years as warranty/service manager for a major class A motor home manufacture at the time in 1980. Seeing the many disgusting videos recently of the horrible quality and nightmare stories customers are having to deal with is appalling. Only thing I can see that may have changed since the 60's,70's is the units are a little more stylish and their ridiculous prices !!! believe me, I thought I'd seen it all but, absolutely !! nothing has changed.. and the real disgusting part is how many "multi, multi millionaires" the industry has produced. You couldn't beg me to invest into one of these products regardless of the manufacture, they all seem to be the same... The entire industry needs a major major, reckoning.

You’ve had wonderful experiences I’m sure along the way with RVs at your disposal. You have to see my predicament. The good Lord has given me this day and no promises for tomorrow and I’ve come to realize that I should be making more out of every day given to me and stop waiting for a better time to act. I see no alternative but to do the most research as possible and hire a good inspector when the time comes because I’m going to see this country from an RV’s perspective until someone can offer me a better idea. And please don’t suggest cruising or traveling abroad. Respectfully, 👍🏼😎

@@rickgriffith1 Thank you for your kind reply. I think you are 100% on target in contracting a reputable inspector in addition, I might suggest having a lawyer review the warranty and contract before sealing any deal especially considering the amount of money were talking about, its called Due Diligence !!! In review of the countless videos being posted I believe, the time has come that consumers demand these companies learn to "Earn Your Business" and if more people followed your approach it can happen. The fact these companies are getting away with treating customers the way they are is just unethical. Good luck in your search.

@@davereynolds259 Hello again Dave. Unfortunately, I agree wholeheartedly with what you’ve said. These dealerships and manufacturers are due for a comeuppance. As an aside, if you will note, there are two slide-outs (one on each side) on the upper deck. Given the issues with "frame-flex", that rig is going to come apart in a few months of travel. Every video I have seen regarding the frame flex issue had slide outs on the upper deck.
Unfortunately, most buyers will walk into that camper and say "Oooh, look at the refrigerator. Oooh, stainless steel appliances. And a dishwasher. King size bed!" and then completely overlook the issues you pointed out concerning build quality.

I'm currently stuck between the Brinkley G4000 and the Riverstone 4513dst. In all fairness, that one on a Managers Special Sale and it was not the one that is compared to a Brinkley G4000

Hi Randall. I agree with you about it not being an apples to apples comparison. I even admitted that I was really hoping that one of the Riverstones that were there be a toy hauler, but that didn’t pan out. I had to go with what was in front of me which was a 2023 Riverstone. Up until seeing this unit I was a fan of the brand because of what I’d heard, but I couldn’t get past the fit and finish of this one to even make it worth my while diving further to the bones of the matter. This was my first Riverstone experience and now my last. I only had so much time to invest in what was meant to be a positive video, but I was disappointed with what I witnessed and it turned out as you saw, a public service announcement. I think the dealership was foolish to put this unit in the show, but I guess that didn’t matter since someone bought the unit warts and all. Thank you for spending your time watching and commenting. WOW!! That was sad!! In 2021, I bought a Forest River Wildwood for $40k that was in better shape than that. But even at $40,000, I still think they could have done better. I had all the bad trim, the sink leak, the nick in the countertop and a couple other things fixed before I even took it off the lot. The dealer was awesome! It took them a month to get it done, but they made the factory come and fix everything, at no cost to me. Plus, I did a couple upgrades while it was there. As for the quality of these RV's, I know people that build these things. That's why I understand the lack of craftsmanship. They have a pretty good turnover rate and half of them are high all the time. Before I bought mine, I researched dealers for months. I found 3 that I would be willing to buy from. The one closed to me is Bish's RV in Coldwater, Michigan. That's where I bought mine and if I ever buy another, it will be from them again. They did not push anything and actually saved me money. Check out youtube channel Josh the RV Nerd.

Good dealerships are hard to come by and it’s great to hear that your dealership did right by you. That’s too rare nowadays. Research the major problems with the Lippert frames that RVs are built on……serious and expensive problems. Regardless of how much you spend.

    • @rickgriffith1
      @rickgriffith1  26 днів тому

Hi Cal R. I can see why you would say that since Lippert is pretty much the only game in town when it comes to supplying frames to most manufacturers except for a few that build their own frames like Luxe, DRV and Spacecraft. Lippert frames are made for each manufacturer according to the specifications provided by each purchasing manufacturer. Frames are not one size fits all sitting on a warehouse shelf being pulled off the top for the next order. They’re engineered for the specific needs of each manufacturer. And the fact is that some manufacturers spec their frames better than others. My research indicates that Brinkley is one of those manufacturers that go the extra mile. No pun intended. Time will tell in my opinion. Thank you for watching my video and taking the time to respond. I hope you subscribe before you go and check out some of the other RVs that we’ve considered along the way. Safe travels.👍🏼😎

I’d like to say I’m surprised by the poor quality, but I’m not. Brinkley’s are in no way perfect but the quality and manufacturing process from Brinkley is a huge step above most manufacturers. I highly suggest everyone view their manufacturing tours by BTBRV and Josh the Nerd as well as the tours of their units. Brinkley did away with drop frame construction which contributes to frame flex and their LCI frames are at least 30% stronger than most and the frames are made for full timing and constant travel. Going with the 3500 TH this summer. Once u walkthrough and around a Brinkley, the choice is easy. Thanks for the review!

The disappointing reality is that they were right in doing so because apparently it paid off and someone bought it. And it’s because of that pending purchase that I’m convinced that nothing will improve with manufacturing quality of most RVs any time soon since the dealerships and manufacturers see that the masses will buy anything. Hello Buck. Your experience is unfortunate, but common it’s sad to say. In all fairness, I believe that all the manufacturers have been taking advantage of a captive audience with putting out poor quality with no regard for improving quality for their customers. My appreciation for the Brinkley brand stems from them being the new kids on the block that’s trying to address historic problems with RV manufacturing and improved the overall situation with the quality of the products they put out for their customers, but that comes with a hefty price tag. I’ve been considering a fifth wheel toy hauler for the longest time now, but because I can’t afford a Brinkley fifth wheel I’m hoping that they come out with a more affordable travel trailer toy hauler by the time we’re ready to purchase something. Otherwise it looks like it’s gonna be a five to ten year old diesel pusher with a trike trailer in tow. Thank you for stopping by and watching and commenting. It really helps my channel. I’ve heard nothing but good things about ATC. But I could have said the same thing about Riverstone before I saw this one. ATC’s claim to fame, besides building stacker trailers, is having no wood at all in their live aboard trailers and they don’t have slide outs in any of their trailers. They’re like the Airstream of fifth wheels with a price to match. They also have that open concept interior going on, but I’m not a fan of that style and my wife needs those slide outs for room and comfort. Hi James. It’s great hearing from folks with good experiences. I’ve heard that Redwood puts out a good product. It’s great to hear from an actual happy customer. I hope you subscribe before you go and check out some of my other videos. The Canyon Star video being my favorite. Safe travels.👍🏼😎

I hear you William. And I’ve toured them both. Top shelf quality to say the least, but they are also at the top of the spectrum price wise and weight wise and need to be hauled by a Freightliner M-2 medium duty type truck or full HDT in order to be towed safely in my opinion. Putting both options out of my price range. But I agree with you about both. Just because I can’t afford them doesn’t mean they’re not worth the money they command. Thank you for watching and commenting and I sure would appreciate you subscribing and checking out my other videos including my favorite RV, the Newmar Canyon Star. Safe travels.👍🏼😎

You lost me with this Larry. What about trailer toads?

Were you talking about towing something behind you? I comment a lot and trailer toad is a high quality dolly set up that motor home people use a lot when the tow heavy trailers behind them. Look it up, guy in Texas makes them. If you weren’t asking about or commenting on towing, no idea why I mentioned it, lol
