    The commentary for this thing is like an Old Spice commercial. "Look to the left. Now right. Now back to the left. The left side of the map is now the right side. The tickets are now diamonds. I'm on a horse."

    This game is inexplicably being ported to Switch. The announcement trailer for this port features a gameplay snippet in which the player gets into a battle and quickly dies at the start of the game. This is then followed with the tagline "we now understand... how cruel the world can be."

    this is probably my favourite run of this GDQ. I think what really sells it is how you'd think based on it just being a bad JRPG that it would get very boring to watch for more than 5 minutes, however it somehow continually gets worse and worse every second

    The only thing I knew about this game is that characters age as you level up. You start with children and end with young adults, which I think is such a cool concept for a rpg that I'm saddened it's wasted on such a lame game.

    • @Supersquigi
      @Supersquigi 4 роки тому +61

      Consider that the developer basically invented the concept if it's such an early game. I also fucking love the idea, it makes more sense than a nobody becoming the strongest person in existence in 40 hours or whatever.

      I "feel" like Final Fantasy 1 had a sort of similar idea where your characters get a 'new class' at about 2/3rds of the game but are clearly older and more experienced when you class up. Sad that they just gave up on the concept completely. Also yeah Wizardry is like that but it fking sucks because your best characters just suddenly die when you need them most.

      Indeed, a crapton of really, really bad JRPGs, with a few highlights here and there.Probably even more so on the SNES and PSX later on.

    • @thomasffrench3639
      @thomasffrench3639 11 місяців тому +4

      Dragon Warrior is popular because it’s a solid game that was unique for it’s time before other RPGs came into console. And this game is worse than most of the other RPGs released. There were a lot of good games released on the original Famicom before the 16 bit era.

    • @ManOutofTime913
      @ManOutofTime913 23 дні тому

      By being accessible and being first. Dragon Quest basically just simplified the mechanics and provided far more visual feedback to what you would see in PC RPGS of the time. There were plenty of games that improved on the Dragon's Quest formula or went in new and interesting directions with it. But, the Japanese already fell in love with the original and that has carried the series all this time.
