My son came to a realization of scripture thanks to JP's Genesis lectures which opened his mind and heart to Christ and the Bible!

I did too. I had no interest in reading the Bible as a revelation of God, rather I thought it would be interesting to see the psychological 'truths' contained in it. The series was fascinating and I thought I ought to read the book that he was speaking on. I decided to give it a shot, I didn't get very far on my own (my lens was so completely worldly), a friend suggested I go on an Alpha course (online during the pandemic) I went along but it was short and so 'surface level' it didn't satisfy so many of the questions I had, the people on the Alpha course put me in touch with a church that were doing Bible studies online and I asked if I could join. They were gracious enough to allow me to join despite my many questions and lack of faith. The more I read the Bible, the more I saw I was reading the truth. I understood that but I had yet to accept Christ as my saviour. It took more study and time to fully grasp what accepting Jesus really meant (I still have to work at how I live), but I came to faith in 2021 and was Baptised in 2022 and am an active member of my local church.

I loved the interview with Peterson and John Rich, who point-blank, shared the gospel with him. I had never seen Peterson at a loss for words until that moment. I'm praying he has a truely supernatural born-again experience with Jesus. Then, he will REALLY see the Kingdom of God and what it means personally.

I have watched 6-8 Christians review Jordan Peterson's ideas & beliefs. If I'm not mistaken, this is the 1st critique that did not focus primarily on whetherJordan was "a believer", altho" some of your comments touched on this. What I loved & appreciated MOST about this conversation is YOUR recognition of & well-deserved praise of HIS great respect for the Bible & the earnest & respectful Jordan discusses the Word. And while you were admiring Jordan's respect for the Bible, I was certainly admiring the great respect both of you demonstrated for his ideas, his book, the novel ideas he brought to Bible characters, events & stories, as well as the way you explained your differences in belief from him. I hope, along with you, that Jordan Peterson sees this podcast & I believe that he would be pleased, honored & gratified by it! ❤ Thank you, Brothers! 👍🏻☮️💜

Too bad Rich came off as an a-hole. The typical evangelicalistic, shove it in your face tactics that we've all seen and heard. Peterson wants to converse and suddenly someone holds a knife to your throat and the only thing they care about are your words at that moment. That's why Peterson says he lives it. He acts it. Open your freakin' eyes.

@@martyduke3139 there's an old saying about missing heaven by 12-18 inches, i.e., the difference between knowing the Word of God intellectually and submitting one's heart to Jesus Christ. My own concern, having followed Peterson off and on ever since his 15 minutes back around 2017-2018, is that he's got the word of God so analyzed and boxed up to suit all his intellectual needs for it, that perhaps he won't make the jump to the acknowledgement of sin and need for the Savior.

I've talked to atheists who actually believe the stories in the Bible are on the same level as mother goose stories, probably because they only have a Sunday school understanding of them, but I think Peterson's work has cast the Bible in an more intellectual light and has caused those people who considered themselves "too smart" to take the Bible seriously to reconsider it.

Did Jordan Peterson ever interact with 2 Peter 1: 16-21 in his book?
To me, this seems like the “Bridge text” between his understanding of the scriptures as “True” stories, and what you both and the apostle Peter are describing as “The True Story.”
      2 Peter 1:16-21
      Eyewitnesses of His Majesty
      (Matthew 17:1-13; Mark 9:1-13; Luke 9:28-36)
16For we did not follow cleverly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty. 17For He received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to Him from the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”c 18And we ourselves heard this voice from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.
19We also have the word of the prophets as confirmed beyond doubt. And you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. 20Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture comes from one’s own interpretation. 21For no such prophecy was ever brought forth by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

    Thank you for this.
It’s about time that some Christian men listened to Jordan.
Jordan has been on a real journey with God…wrestling with God, grappling with reality and absolute truth.
Jordan has been used by God to direct many young men into the scripture.
“Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.”
Jordan is a man of strength and integrity.
    A question for you:
Why is God using a man who communicates in ambiguous as to whether he believes the scripture are literal historical stories… to bring the word of God back into the minds of secular people? (A man who has had serious discussions with the leading atheists. )
Why is God not using church leaders?
Why are people paying to go hear him lecture on biblical themes? The majority of people attending a Peterson talk have no interest in going to church to hear the scriptures expounded on.
I have tried to open church people up to questioning what is involved in Peterson’s rise to prominence especially in the minds of young men. Sadly, there is a shut down and lack of curiosity. Yet, the modern church is extremely weak on it’s faith in the scripture…
I have been a believer for over 50 years. It is my observation that Church leaders are big on people attending church, but, seem to be failing is equipping people know the word of God and know God personally.

Maybe because the Bible is more than literal historical stories. Jordan cracks open the allegories and metaphors of the Bible, which is where we can find the true meat of scripture. I’ve barely scratched the surface of the book, but I’ve listened to a lot of his talk on these subjects and even saw him live on his tour. So a lot of this is repeat, but maybe diving a little deeper on all that. I agree that he sees a lot of insight on reality from the stories of the Bible, but I believe he still views them as stories rather than reality. However he doesn’t come to the Bible flippantly, but with great thought. I’m looking forward to diving more into it, even if it does take me forever to finish.

I am looking forward to your review of his book. I find Dr Peterson both inspiring and frustrating. He is a gifted thinker and knows his Bible stories and thus he has some deep insights into the scripture. Yet his interpretative lens is a novel one and not even all psychologists would agree with him. He also seems to have a way of making the scripture agree with his own worldview rather than allowing the scripture to speak its own story. On many occasions, I doubt that the original writers and audience would agree with what he is saying. So I love to hear what he says, but I take it with a very large grain of salt.
My fear is that many believe him without seeing the problems. I hope you can provide some clarity in your review.

Had things gone a little bit differently, I might've ended up falling into the progressive christianity camp. But it was Peterson who made me interested in learning the Bible more deeply, as he described how the things that the Bible has to say about how to live in the world maps so well with a life that's actually good and fulfilling, and now I find myself coming back to the faith and learning more every day.

Rich was a huge part of keeping me on track, even though terrible times. When he died, I read everything he wrote. Then a mutual friend wrote a book that called Rich an Arrow to Heaven. Peterson interprets the Bible through the lens of epistemological pluralism because he’s a student of Jung. Jung popularized the “collective subconscious” and the psychological archetype theme. There is danger here in that people may come to understand that the Bible is just one of many stories. However, it’s not unlike God to use people for his glory without their being aware. So, people who might never engage with the Bible might be being brought to it through Peterson.
There’s a small book called Myth and Meaning in Jordan Peterson which contains 10 short essays from theologians critiquing his thought. Highly suggest it!

as a Christian in my 20s, i totally hated any "knowledge" that was not straight from the bible. It took me into my 40s to be able to see that we learn also by studying patterns in behavior, and studying family of origin. You won't find a verse in the bible on how to locate a serial killer within a population, but a behavioral expert can narrow down the field greatly. we just need to be careful to not elevate other areas of study ovrer what the bible teaches, thats all.

We miss out on much if we only look to scripture for understanding God (and ourselves as well).
However scripture is the ultimate acid test for truth and all of creation should be interpreted within the boundaries of scripture i.e. a correct understanding of creation will always align with scripture.

People mistakenly correlate Jordan’s word salad talent with high IQ. Yes he’s a smart man but more so on the clever side as opposed to the wise side. Jordan’s train of thought confuses the reader. Highly intelligent people do not sound confusing. When someone speaks TRUTH it’s not confusing.

I used to think higher of Jordan Peterson, but no longer listen to him. I cannot stand his tap dancing around his belief in a literal Jesus Christ, but at the same time he'll wear a tailored suit with Christian iconography all over it. I think people need to be careful of religiosity that's on the precipice of Christianity without putting trust in Jesus Christ

Agreed. The line between cultural Christianity and true Christianity has continually gotten blurred - even in this video's conversation... when they referred to non-Christian social warriars as the pharisees. The pharisees were people who had studied Torah, believed it, but missed the point - much like Peterson and other people in cultural Christianity - not the "them" who don't believe in God in the first place.

I like JP a lot and have learned a lot from him. With regard to his handling of scripture... He has some fascinating insights which are often but not always valid. But he seems to miss the main point altogether, that Jesus Christ is literally God and came save us from our sin by His death on the cross. I think unless he's saved he'll go down in church history as a heretic. Pray for him.

This was amazing and very respectful (which is what I love about Sean!) Many have come to faith in Jesus through JP's work. It opens the door to Christianity in a way that connects with a different type of listener. I heard him say that he believed that this book would end new atheism once and for all. The tide is turning for many outspoken atheists. I listened to a conversation between an agnostic and a once a very outspoken atheist. At the end of the interview this is what was said: Agnostic: "so what word or words of wisdom do you want to leave our listeners with?" Atheist: "go to church."

I haven't read the book yet but I think Peterson's general approach is for those who need to want Christianity to be true before they can grapple with whether or not it is historically true.
Some people won't be swayed by people who unquestioningly believe it as the literal truth, they need to see someone struggle with it and work through it in the way Dr Peterson does.

Jordan B Peterson is the the closest thing to modern day saint. Saint Peterson is the saint of discarded bastards and forgotten heros. The man is honestly a hero at least to me. He had helped me become a better father, husband, and man. Just hearing him speak has helped me find a relationship with god, his understand myself site helped my marriage, and i still learn ways to improve my life daily. Ive been in war, ive been homeless, helpless, and so deep in hell that i thought id die there doomed to suffer it for eternity. Im not 100% out of my shitstorm that i let my life get to, but he help me orient my life in a forward moving direction that is making life better daily. He succeeded in helping so many of us who's fathers left us to the wolves and whom our mothers tried to devour. Uncle sam tought me to kill, dad tought me to hate, mom tought me to love, but St. Peterson tought me to live for someone other than myself and to see god in all things good and bad, and how to aim for goals bigger than selfish immediate gratitude for the future i can make for my kids. Say what u want about him, ill always believe that god made him to help us. Canada doesn't deserve him if thats how they treated him, Americans need him and i and many others would die to keep him. He is saving the world one bastard at a time, i speak from experience.

Peterson's teaching method is effective, even if his existentialism is not what I believe. He has some good elements and good methods. We can glean from him without endorsing everything about him. I hope that he is on a path from pragmatism to existentialism, and eventually to see the Bible's message as objective, absolute truth. I’d love to see you interview him but I think he could be a very frustrating or exasperating interview because he can run off on these tangents. That is usually because he is following rabbit trails and often will loop it back around, but boy as a listener, you have to work to keep up. But here’s the thing…whether Christian leaders like you guys like it or not, he is one of the top people in the world with the microphone. Meaning, he has a HUGE following and through him, that huge following is actually considering the Bible and our God in ways that haven’t been done since Billy Graham in his heyday of the 50s-60s.

I’m sorry, but if you can’t say “yes” to that, and “Jesus is my Lord and saviour”, than I can’t believe you are saved.
God says confess with your mouth, that IS an “act”. So if Peterson really did “act as if” he believed, than he would follow scripture, and confess it freely, and I would argue anyone genuinely saved is eager to confess it, not just willing to.

Just to pick one point amongst many, to disagree with Sean on, I'll take 43:33, Abraham, the father of the faithful. The one whose life absolutely models our walk in faith that Christ is in us, i.e., union. The exact point Jesus made to the rich young ruler that foxes have dens and birds have nests but the son of man has no where to lay his head and that includes those who accept their life in Christ and Christ in them. Our faith is not in our dens and nests but in him that his character is in us and that we can live in it and out of it as he brings us to the fullness of himself. We will make mistakes along the way, but are never on our own. I have permission to live out of what has already been given me, i.e., the life of Christ. Faith is to trust the process.

God downloaded to Einstein the theory of relativity. First God gave Einstein the gifts he needed to understand relativity. He needed learning and focus--not being interested in most worldly matters. Now Einstein tries to explain this to ordinary people without gifts, learning or other interests. That's what Jordan Peterson is trying to do. With the understanding God has given him, he is trying to give to us who are not geniuses or psychologists. He's opening a crack and it's up to the individual then to realize there really is a God. Before we criticize Jordan I think we should take a look at ourselves and understand that he is courageous enough to step out by faith into forbidden territory to approach the normal person and invited him to follow him in finding their own way once given some primitive tools. Yes, primitive because he goes all the way back to Cain and Abel. And nothing has changed. And that's what he's saying. Jordan is giving us sparklers of brilliance. He's handing you sparklers to light in the night and be awed
at the small dynamic force you are holding in your hand. The more sparklers you get the more light you will have. The source of these sparklers is the Bible which is the wondrous and fearful truth.

I know some Christians insist on faith alone, but faith without works that align with the Gospel is dead. 49:00 Jesus alone saved us but it is by our works, and the intentions in our heart behind those works, that prove if our faith is real or not. It's a fine distinction but immensely important. Not everyone that says "Lord! Lord! will be welcomed into Heaven.

The other disconnect with Peterson is that his approach seams to see the men who penned it as the authors and not God Almighty as THEE Author.
