Been really interested in getting this exact carrier and would like to see a follow up regarding how it holds up to the wear and tear of training. Informative video. Would like to also see a full breakdown of the carrier as far as internal padding and overall fit of it. Keep up the good work
Thanks. Not much for internal padding although you won't need any additional padding if you're running stand alone ceramic plates. I plan to do a follow up but considering the cost of ammo and lack of available classes, it may be some time. My only concern would be the plastic shoulder strap buckles but I've been running a Condor plate carrier with plastic shoulder strap buckles for 7 years and never had an issue. I could do a quick video on the body armor being worn.
@@airborneivan thanks for the feedback. I more was meaning the padding thats on the carrier to provide comfort while you're wearing it. I like the price point of this carrier and the torture tests of their plates impressed me
I do like these plates. I'm not sure the weight of the RMA plates but I do know the RMA plates are NIJ certified where the GD Body Armor plates are in-house tested to NIJ specs. Price is comparable. They're proclaimed weight is 5.7 lbs but on my scale they weigh in at 6.8 lbs. So, almost 2 lbs per plate lighter than the RMA plate. It's all a matter of your intended use. If it's for duty use, your only option may be the RMA plates. If it's for a prepared citizen role, I think you'd be more than fine with the GD Body Armor plates. I still run these today.
I just got mine. I was excited cause it seems to have some nice qualities. However there is very limited adjustment. It sits way too low (cannot get front plate anywhere near heart). There is not side adjustments and the side seem way too loose. I'm 5'8 175 lb
Interesting. Are the adjustments not like the one in the video? I know in their second get Sheppard Plate Carrier they removed the front adjustment under the front flap. My son has the second gen version in multicam and we got it to fit him perfectly. He's 5' 7" 175 lbs.
@@airborneivan Only 1 point of adjustment. Mine doesn't have the buckles in the front. It's a loop in the front that you pull the straps trought and velcro them toward the back. Because of the padding theres only so much you can sinch it down
@z wits there's should be plenty of adjustment. When we set up my son's we had to trim the straps because there was so much extra and the shoulder pads were super thick from folding them.
@z wits do they not have the quick disconnects where the front plate meets the shoulder straps? They used to be plastic buckles then they switched them to mini Cobra buckles.
@@airborneivan I just figured out my confusion. I have a different model (Dane). Both models are very similar. Maybe I'll use this one for airsoft and order the shepherd for my actual plate carrier. Appreciate you're responses. Hope anyone looking into these sees these comments
I picked up a new one and noticed quite a few changes including the removal of the front adjustment. Been meaning to do a follow up but I've been super busy but hopefully soon.
Unfortunately not at this moment. I've been extremely busy with work and the lack of classes available has hampered any testing. I'm hoping in the next two weeks I can atleast wear it on a long hike through the PA mountains. That should atleast give me some type of idea of how it will feel and hold up as that will more than likely replicate how it would really be worn in a SHTF or WROL scenerio through patrolling, etc or even a duty capacity.

@@spacecowboy74 got it. I'll post another video having my son wear it and showing the padding on the carrier.
@@airborneivan sounds like a solid video. Looking forward to it. Hope to see your channel grow to accurately represent your passion for your hobbies
@@spacecowboy74 thank you. I really appreciate that.
I'm in the process of making some level 4 plates for my guard dog
Making??? That's awesome. Always wondered if I could make some at home.
Do you still like these plates, and would you run these over RMA lvl 4 plates? Slightly lighter than the RMA's correct?

I received this plate carrier, mine does not have the front adjustment only can adjust the rear and being a thinner guy can’t get it as snug as I want

Do you have plates in it? Because I had the same issue till I put plates in it then It was perfect
Any updates on the wear?
