The only difference we have in N.Y. is we soak the raisins in the rum for about 10 minutes before we add them rum and all into the pudding. Gives the raisins a bit more flavor and plumps them up so each bite of raisin has a bit of juice in it, they are not dry.
Really? Interesting. Raisins plump up when exposed to heat and they're actually juicy as well. I may have to try it to see if it works for me. Thanks for sharing Lisa!
Charlue, this looks soooo good. So good that im going to skip my usual recipe with brioche bread and try this one. I prefer yellow/golden raisins to black/dark raisins, would it be ok if i make that change to ur recipe, will it still taste the same?
That is awesome Sonja. That's understandable. Use any color raisins you want. The only raisins I've had were the regular and the cranberry ones. I'm not sure how it would taste if you used any other type of raisin. I'm sure it would be good. Let me know how it turns out. Thanks!

That looks great and brings back a lot of memories. My mama would prepare this for a dessert. It was something we all loved to eat. We didn’t get it often because mama was always on a diet. Never had it with the rum either, daddy was a minister but I am certainly going to try your recipe for this version. Great job Charlie as always.

I made this recipe 3 weeks ago, and just baked another for Thanksgiving. I come from a family that had a bakery.. this is the bomb of bread puddings! I use cibatta bread from a local bread company here in Phoenix, let it dry out for about 6 hours before putting in custard. Yum!

I tried this, as well as your Étouffée recipe for several guys from my EMS station after a particularly stressful week. I made “Louisiana Surf and Turf”, pouring the Étouffée over ribeye steaks and baked potatoes. Your recipes were AMAZING! I'm from Nicaragua and we have a version of this but this time I wanted to try something a touch different and I found yours. OMG, It was so good!! my husband loves it. Instead of Bacardi, I used 7-year Flor De caña (My country's rum). Thanks for sharing with us, you are the best.

I Will Be Using The "Extra Milk & 2 Tablespoons Of Rum Flavor". This Will Replace The White Bacardi Rum (Alcohol). I Made A Rum Flavored Banana Pudding This Way. Original Recipe Required Bacardi Rum As Well.
So I made this tonight. The cooking time took about 10 minutes longer. People, please get French bread… French bread and supermarket French bread are not the same!! It still taste great. The supermarket bread is so much heavier and dense.

I tried this, as well as your Étouffée recipe for several guys from my EMS station after a particularly stressful week. I made “Louisiana Surf and Turf”, pouring the Étouffée over ribeye steaks and baked potatoes. Your recipes were AMAZING! I Will Be Using The "Extra Milk & 2 Tablespoons Of Rum Flavor". This Will Replace The White Bacardi Rum (Alcohol). I Made A Rum Flavored Banana Pudding This Way. Original Recipe Required Bacardi Rum As Well.

People, please get French bread… French bread and supermarket French bread are not the same!! It still taste great. The supermarket bread is so much heavier and dense.
