I know you (and we) love your gnarly old buildings, but there must be someone building something new, perhaps as part of the New Deal, a Library maybe, or a Post Office, or just some strange random entrepreneur? I am saying this only 'cos it would be an interesting exercise and it would make everything else look even more delightfully grotty! As you said, you have to tell yourself to finish it! While I might never buy a craftsman kit (only cheap plastics at the moment) these techniques are really helping me along with my HOn30 micro layout. I also appreciate the fact that you use inexpensive acrylic paints. I can't thank you enough. Here's to another 20,000 subs.

Hi Jason, I LOVE your videos! Each building has its own character, and the way you age them is amazing. I find it therapeautic to watch how you do it. Just one thought - if you are depicting a town from the thirties, back then most of the colors and the signs were fresh, because they were just recently done. The way you make them is the way those buildings would look today after almost a century of neglect. But, Please don't let me talk you out of what you are doing, I wouldn''t even want to see them fresh and polished like back then, I love your style MUCH better. So please don't stop what you're doing, I LOVE it and I'm going to try some of those little houses myself. Fully aged, of course...!!! Fistbump and Thumbs up!

Variety adding realism - that is 100% true and it applies to wargaming terrain as well. When I got started in the hobby, back in the very dark ages of 1979, most wargaming terrain was very...almost impressionistic. Over the decades, we wargamers started to notice that many of the model RR materials and techniques worked well on the gaming table and the two hobbies began to merge in some ways. This is a good thing for everyone. Thanks for showing the dark secrets of how terrain is made. :-)
For your Q&A and future projects; can you build a structure representing a fresh, just erected building or a building that is halfway through restoration/repairs work? I just can't believe that no (1:87) home owner does any maintenance on its property. ;-) I know your layout is representing an era somewhere in the thirties/forties of last century (right after the great depression) but then again.... Looking at the layout, with all the white ground still visible, I had a thought: have you considered a wintry scene? I'm not suggesting a foot of snow over everything, just a light dusting, maybe a it melts, so there are piles of cleared snow here and there. It could be an interesting change from a "normal" landscape, maybe saving on some detailing work but, more than likely, making more work. As usual, just a thought.👍😁

my question/suggestion is about weathering powders. I am accustomed to mixing india ink with rubbing alcohol but after covid, you can't find 90% rubbing alcohol and the lesser concentrations are too watery and warp balsa wood. so I have to start switching to weathering powders but am unfamiliar with them. could you show us the foscale and bar mills weathering powders? thanks and happy holidays !
Enjoyed the video as always and really liked the methods used on the rusty signs. Question: Back in the 70s, Model Railroader authors John Olsen and Malcolm Furlow created peeled paint by applying a base coat followed by small drops of rubber cement, then the color coat. Afterward, they would scrape off the rubber cement and the paint that covered it, leaving the base coat (weathered wood or ?) visible in spots. Have you ever used this technique and if so, what did you think of it? Or would you regard this method as old school and perhaps not as good as other ways of doing this?
I love seeing all your various techniques, although, for me, you over weather your buildings (more the era you model versus the one I model). However, I have not so much a question but a challenge - try building a N scale building using some of your techniques. As a N scale modeller, I have tried a few of your ideas, but find that some of the nice detail techniques just do not scale down, but would be interested just which techniques you would use.
Question : how is your project evolving compared to your initial vision from day 1 ? What are the challenges you did not expect and where is it going now that you have experience with the project. Thanks a lot

How did you put the seams on the roof? I scratch in N scale but how you build stairs may be of interest as it is very hard in N. Also any special techniques for constructing decks, railings, etc.?

What ? a question for me?? Yeah making the signs, first part do you let the the layers dry or just keep adding? 2 do you use just printer paper or heaver bond paper. 3 ink jet or laser printer. Just want to say thanks for showing what you use and I get the stuff you show and am getting better results even in N scale. time and practice.
Do you do any forced perspective and if so can point to videos? Do all your structures have all sides or can you leave some open knowing it'll never be seen? Do you use some N scale for the illusion of being further away? (guess that's similar to the forced perspective question)

Could you explain how you thin your paint and a list of what paints you use? Especially for rust.

How did you put the seams on the roof? I scratch in N scale but how you build stairs may be of interest as it is very hard in N. Also any special techniques for constructing decks, railings, etc.?

Hi Jason, awesome video and build as always. My question is, and I know you don´t like to do it, but how would you do a building that looks newly constructed to your layout? Someone in the whole town must have built something new in the past 30 years!? :)
Jason, where did you learn your painting techniques? Trial and error? A mentor? Art school?
What ? a question for me?? Yeah making the signs, first part do you let the the layers dry or just keep adding? 2 do you use just printer paper or heaver bond paper. 3 ink jet or laser printer. Just want to say thanks for showing what you use and I get the stuff you show and am getting better results even in N scale. time and practice.

Do you do any forced perspective and if so can point to videos? Do all your structures have all sides or can you leave some open knowing it'll never be seen? Do you use some N scale for the illusion of being further away? (guess that's similar to the forced perspective question)
