I can't tell you guys how many reactions to Sleep Token I've watched but this channel is quickly becoming my favorite. I love that you guys actually go deep and analyze things philosophically, which most channels don't do. I've listened to this song hundreds of times but I didn't pick up that the red in the blue could be blood in the water to "summon" until you guys pointed it out. Please keep going through their entire discography, I will be looking forward to every upload.
Agreed, so far seeing 3 videos of theirs that are 20 min long AT LEAST while reacting to music that is at most 8mins allows for deeper discussion of the meaning (Something I'm sure Vessel was intending from the start with his lyric choices, enough to get the point across but vague enough for people to interoperate it in their own way.)
Your son's right! II's drumming and the composition of it are second to none! Exactly enough intensity, and always a perfect fit for the rest of the song. I've heard it said that Sleep Token's greatest strength is layering sound. They can stack so many different sounds on top of each other, but it's always in harmony! I listened to The instrumental version of The Night Belongs To God and even then there were so many of the tiniest sounds and even backing vocals that are almost impossible to pick out from the full song. Sound in perfect harmony.
That’s so cool that you said his drumming is a mix of gospel and rock. In the DRUM CAMEO video of him on UA-cam ( which you have to watch and do a review trust me) they ask him what his inspiration comes from and he mentions GOSPEL has a huge influence on his drumming skills . You nailed it
I know this is coming in a bit late but it took me a while to come across your video after I jumped on the Sleep Token train. Love your reactions for this amazing band. One interpretation I had for the blood portion is he is talking a lot about divinity and this "goddess" he is kind of putting on a pedestal, "Red in the Blue" to me came as a mixing of the blood where he merely feels like a lowly regular human, red blooded man trying to mix it up with a "Blue" blood, which is an old reference to royalty, seeing her as his queen/goddess. "Raise me up" let me join you in paradise, in heaven or "Eden"
I really hope y’all continue with these reactions to Sleep Token. All three albums tie in beautifully with one another and y’all really help me out with what Vessel is saying. Appreciate y’all frfr
Yup, even the more straight up songs they have still have enough of a vagueness that it can be interpolated in multiple ways. They don't necessarily tell a story, but the ambiance of the story and they leave it up to the listener to fill in their own story which just makes their music connect all that much deeper.
This album is definitely about duality! Damn you guys get it, and it takes some of us long time fans a while to figure it out😂 that's why we love these videos. Also... staankfaace!! 😄 love seeing y'all vibe so hard with it
The whole story of Vessel being the voice of Sleep and bringing us to worship is wild and crazy just the more you listen to Sleep Token, the more you realize how devoted to the notion Vessel is and how much his worship makes sense!
Love your reactions, guys. As soon as the funk line started I knew the stank face was coming 😂 Please do more ST! And then, when you’re ready for another rabbit hole, the two of you are perfect to doing Tool reactions. You guys appreciate all the intricacies: the music, the vocals, multiple lyric meanings, deep subjects, and unexpected rifts. Lots of Sleep Token fans swear they can actually hear the Tool influence in Sleep Token, so it’s a perfect Segway when the time is right 🎉 Keep em coming!
Love that y'all are trucking right along with these and loving them! I think y'all should try hearing with headphones tho - theres so many layers you miss without them!
Sleep token's music is the sonic representation of having the same dream every single night (the love you want music video displays this perfectly) that involves a repeating cycle of meeting a love so deep you'd worship it until the end of time and the toxicity that comes with its lack of permanence and constant build up and tear down of your entire spectrum of emotion, night after night, with no control. If you think of their songs/lyrics from this perspective it makes alot more sense. Vessel only meets Sleep when hes sleeping (imagine that) and there are so many lyrics that revolve around that. Aside from that sure there are other meanings/intentions behind the lyrics and you do a great job at picking those out. But for the sake of the band's lore the main focus is the struggle between Vessel and Sleep.
Thank you guys for taking the time to read and reply to all of us. You are amazingly beautiful souls and only beautiful souls que listen and understand SLEEP TOKEN. Worship
Rare to find people that dig into the lyrics and I love your takes! The whole album is really just a journey that leads back to Eden. Search for a time or place of peace. Can't wait for you to hear Euclid and see what the outcome is :) You got one bright young son there Trebor
I second that! You're so lucky to be able to share this experience with your son. I hope he's also enjoying it. It's truly such a wild experience diving into Sleep Token.
If you haven’t yet, II did a thing on the Drumeo channel and he talks about some of his influences and plays some of drums too. It’s the only known interview that anyone of the band has ever done.
Yall are by far my favorite reactors I been saying the same stuff about the music almost the same time yall to and actually understanding the lyricism and the story tell of the music but also just enjoying the talents of the artist🫡🫶
Also love how in a song with lyrics that represent such duality, the instrumentation and song its self does the exact same thing. In a song that starts heavy, ends in funk which represents polar opposites in a whole other way. These guys are great I recommend Alkaline, you’ll love to dissect those lyrics
You guys need to listen to Euclid, the last track from this album. It's a very different vibe and a great end to the album. It caps things off well, definitely one of my favorites of theirs.
Another GREAT Sleep Token reaction. You guys explain perfectly. Don’t fall off the Sleep Token cloud, I’m sure they’re coming out with new music this year or next.
Do you think y’all will be doing their other albums and releases? It’s genuinely so impressive the detail to which the both of you pay attention, and it’s very cool to watch one of you bring perspective to the other. Thus far I’ve really enjoyed these analysis videos and I would really love to see more, even if you reach a point where you run out of Sleep Token to react to. It’s really healing to watch you two address one another with such respect and listen so deeply, I don’t think I can say that enough. Much love
Cant wait to see when you guys tackle "Atlantic" or "BloodSport" Loving the lyrical interpretations, most people get really hook into the music over the lyrics but vessel is a absolute word smith
It'd be cool if you showed him II's Drumeo playthrough of The Summoning since you mentioned II's drumming on this song. I have a feeling you'd both be blown away seeing him playing it live. Another great reaction. ua-cam.com/video/dh6IgOxDhcE/v-deo.html
The nice thing about the genre bending with sleep token is that it isn’t contrived. It is true influence from jazz metal gospel electronic hip hop. Highly recommend the drumeo session with ii. He has a sick drum solo for this song
Look up " as above so below" you can take this, one way,as an actual manifestation. 😊 Red to the blue is also a callback to higher a song on another album.
I may be be butchering it how I saw a cool way this was interpreted. The beginning of the song it’s very breathy and gritty, almost like fighting against the temptation, the desire. Then the end it’s funky , sexy, giving into it and accepting it. Sounds about right but it’s my memory.
i cannot wait for you guys to listen to songs like Alkaline, or Rain, and the apparition, they are much shorter songs. Euclid is gold, but another 8min song too.
Sleep Token songs are a story. The story of Vessel and the deity Sleep. Google the lore and it may shed some light in the meaning of the lyrics. Vessel was visited in a dream by Sleep (the Goddess) and the music is a Token of WORSHIP, hence the band name. Vessel has been in a tumultuous relationship that was toxic and abusive. His lyrics paint the story about his relationships and his longing for someone to love him the way he love them. This song is THE SUMMONING, as in, summoning the deity, the divine as it were. On their first album Sundowning, they have a song called THE OFFERING. It's awesome, but Vessel lays his body and soul down in that song. If you follow the albums, they tell the overall story of heartbreak, longing, loss and acceptance (Take Me Back To Eden album). Each album is like a book, and each song is a chapter in that book. The final song in TMBTE is called Euclid, and should be listened to after the trilogy has been listened to. It wraps the story up nicely with call backs to previous songs from previous albums. Do the deep dive. You won't be disappointed. They dont have a bad song, and all of them are written and performed in the studio by Vessel (Lead singer) and the drummer II. The bass player (III) and guitar player (IV) are only for their live performances because Vessel plays all instruments on the albums except for drums. They are really intriguing and Vessel is just the whole package. Musical genius. Welcome to Worship ❤️😊
Vessel actually refers to Sleep as a HE not a she. “This being once held great power,” it read, “bestowing ancient civilisations with the gift of dreams, and the curse of nightmares. Even today, though faded from prominence, ‘Sleep’ yet lurks in the subconscious minds of man, woman and child alike. Fragments of beauty, horror, anguish, pain, happiness, joy, anger, disgust and fear coalesce to create expansive, emotionally textured music that simultaneously embodies the darkest, and the brightest abstract thoughts. He has seen them. He has felt them. He is everywhere.”
@@UncleTrebor I hoped it might clear some things up about this deity. Too many people have added so much “story” to it that it’s not even close to what Vessel said. I chose to go to the only interview he’s ever done and get this quote from it so people wouldn’t come for me like in so many other comments. You are intelligent and actually think and form opinions for yourself so I felt this was necessary in helping you understand all of this music is about literal relationships and internal struggles. Not his longing to be with it falling in love with some made up goddess. I know it’s hard to gauge emotions in a text, I say these things with respect and sincerity
I always heard "blood trail red and the blue." As a bit more literal, like; blood, veins, arteries, red and the blue, they both carry blood Red however veins are closer to the skin and appear blue. However, it has occurred to me that I maybe the wrong kind of thinker for this. ~ worship
Don’t know if you know anything about Falling in Reverse but I feel like y’all would really enjoy them. I suggest watch the world burn for the first video
I'm sorry, but comparing Creed to Sleep Token is where I draw the line. That band is trash and will forever be trash. I feel like you guys are missing the darker contexts within each song. Sure it can be taken as inspirational but there is a duality within it that it is also a struggle. You can hear it in the lyrics, in his voice. The man is struggling. I get you want to keep it light I guess, but you miss some marks by not exploring the darker interpretations of the lyrics. The albums all bleed together into a cycle, the night does not belong to god and Euclid are the night and the day. Who he wants to be vs who he is currently. I believe you have alot of connotations correct on the positive aspects of the lyrics but you don't want to go into the darker portions. It's a shame because it is a beautiful juxtaposition of the writer. He captures all the pain, the growth, the fall, the bottom and the climb back up only to repeat it again so we'll in these three albums. I'd encourage you to not just search for the positive outlook, but the human element in the songs. That was alot, I know. But don't misunderstand me, I enjoyed your reaction. Just a critique I guess.
I had to defend my Creed point to another comment as well! But dont draw the line! LOL And it's not really that I am missing the dark parts bc in my opinion that goes without being said, that its dark. I havent listened to it all but I would guess that its all dark. And actually I like the darkness more than anything, but its not just my reaction. I've heard it several times... This was more for my son to react to it. I wanted to play off of what he was getting from it and find the teachable moments at the same time. And I purposely didnt script anything out for the reactions bc I still wanted it to be as raw as possible. So yes I could definitely make a 2 hour long video and really go deep into all of it, but we're not quite there yet. I think we will though. This channel is specifically to give life lessons through music and my experiences as a man who had to go through some dark spaces in myself to ascend to a new man that has self worth and pride in himself due to my traumatic childhood and divorce. So trust me... I understand what his man is trying to tell us. Love your perspective and maybe as we get better at this we can really frame it better for you guys as well. Love these discussions!!
@UncleTrebor I see, well you cannot defend Creed, they should stay 6ft underground, that's where that music belongs lol. But otherwise I get ya, like I said I did enjoy your reactions to the song and definitely subscribed to see more. Hopefully you all do get to the darker stuff. It's never pleasant, but ever present. But I won't take up to much of your time, looking forward to seeing more content (and never compare sleep token to creed again).
Ok woah! Lets calm down here for a sec here and talk this through! I have reasons LOL First of all! The main point to that is that I feel Creed was a catalyst to bringing other genre listeners to listening to a form of rock... And as a musician/singer and lover of all kinds of music, I can say that at the time, Creed had one of the best overall sounds sonically. And secondly, don't sleep on Creed lyrics (No pun intended). People always hate on his voice but Creed had 2 pretty solid albums with great relatable lyrics that painted great pictures... Do I think its up there with ST? No, but I also think Creed helped pave this way for ST. Not a metal head or rock guy so I'm not speaking on my wealth of that genres history, knowledge or quirks
Lol I feel ya. I never understood the creed hate. I grew up with the 90’s rock’n roll grunge “yarl,” so maybe I’m just immune to why people get annoyed with Scott Stapp’s voice. But you’re right on point about Creed’s lyrics and production. They got hugely popular for a reason.

LOL
And it's not really that I am missing the dark parts bc in my opinion that goes without being said, that its dark.
Sir please don’t ever compare them to creed…ever again.
Ok woah! Lets calm down here for a sec here and talk this through! I have reasons LOL
First of all!
