I always found it lame and indicative of a lack of imagination that in most science fiction movies they just go with the spider-legged robots instead of coming up with something more creative and interesting. This is once more a case where art and science fiction lags behind real science and engineering.
It is things like this why I feel as if the genre of science fiction is becoming kind of obsolete and pointless. The people writing fiction don't have what it takes anymore to "outthink" and "outinovate" what the engineers are doing.
In most science fiction stories they have to find ways to hand-wave away A.I. (stuff like "There was A.I. but they all just shut themselves down and nobody knows why.") to even tell their stories.
this wheel will only work on stairs with sharp edges.
Ride a robotic Is easy with wheels
some ai stuff looks like someone is drunk and cant get up. make the stuff work without requiring any AI. decouple AI from the functional components. you can do it without using/requiring the AI. ai is on top as separate thing. use deterministic pre-programmed static algorithms to do the basic k.i.s.s. robotics stuff. AI can go buzz words somewhere else. lol.
Well, I would use AI to learn the intricate movements needed, and then spit out some static algos for me to implement.
