"Eh... some questions are probably better left unanswered," said Beats, doing his best to avoid eye-contact with Komachi.
"Tell me." Komachi took on a sterner tone.
"I'd rather not."
"TELL ME."
"I *said*, I'd rather-"
"TELL ME OR I'LL TAKE YOU TO THE HELL OF BLAZING FIRES *THIS INSTANT*!"
Beats paused, seemingly unfazed by the psychopomp's ire. "...Wouldn't that be going against the Yama's ruling?" he pointed out.
"Yes, but I'm so far into her black books that I might as well do whatever I please." Komachi was all but crying at this point.
"Well then you know why I don't want to tell you what she said about you - even if the defendant can't be convicted out of their own mouth I sure don't want to give a person with a scythe a reason to be angry at me."
Komachi sighed and slumped down in her boat. "I know, I just... I hoped that she might have at least *one* good thing to say about me."
Beats winced at his own honesty, but it had to be said. "Although, to be perfectly frank, you do kinda bring it down on your own head. Like the Sword of Damocles or something."
"Dharma-what?"
"Never mind. Look: if you're so tired of suffering misfortune-" (Beats did a quick check over his shoulder to make sure nothing was rapidly spinning towards him; the coast was clear so he moved on.) "-as a result of slacking off, surely the simple answer is to slack off *less*?"
"I know, but..." Komachi glared at the waters of the Sanzu as though they were the sole cause for her misery. "I know it's a stupid idea, but I thought it might help Shiki-sama be less... well..." This time it was Komachi's turn to look over her shoulder. "...you know... if she took the stick out... people might like her more, right?"
Beats tacitly acknowledged this, but not too strongly. There was no way to tell whether the Yama might actually be listening.
"So you thought bringing her fewer souls might teach the Yama the virtues of slacking off and she'd learn to be more easygoing?"
"Exactly!" Komachi jumped up in excitement almost causing the whole boat to capsize. Once equilibrium had been restored, Komachi continued: "But the fewer souls I bring in, the MORE stressed she gets! It makes no sense! What kind of person feels more at peace when they're stressed?!"
Beats shrugged. "She's just that kind of person, Komachi: she feels happier when she's got her hands full. Maybe she just likes feeling useful, I don't know? Either way, it would seem that changing her nature is a futile effort. Perhaps it would be of more benefit for you to try and look at things from *her* perspective?"
"What, and learn the joys of lecturing people whenever I have free time? No thanks. I've got a pretty good reputation amongst the people of Gensoukyo and I don't intend to lose it."
Beats frowned. "Do you? Popular opinion seems to be that you're a lazy slacker."
Komachi hefted her scythe, the glint in her eye scarily close to the glint of sunlight off the edge of the blade. Beats suddenly wished he'd paid more attention in swimming class.
But then Komachi's shoulders sagged. "I guess you're right. But at least understand that I slack off with good intentions!"
"Well you know what they say about good intentions."
"What?"
"You mean you don't know?"
"Is this that Dharma thing again?"
"Forget about that. They say that the road to Hell is paved with good intentions."
"No it isn't. In fact, it isn't paved at all."
"I know, but - never mind. The point is, good intentions can sometimes be used to rationalise unwise actions. Do we agree on this?"
"I suppose..." Komachi pouted and crossed her arms like a berated kid.
"Right. In that case, it's best to try a different approach and rationalise your actions based on the results rather than your intentions. So, what do you think you should do?"
"..Bring in... more souls... I guess..." said Komachi grudgingly, looking sideways.
"Right! So if you just drop me off at the courthouse, I'll wait there for the first load." Beats blinked. "Oh, by the way - the Yama said that I could wear whatever I wanted as long as it was professional, but I got kinda blown up before I could find a suit. I don't suppose there's a change of clothes at the courthouse, is there?"
"Only Shiki-sama's outfit."
"So I'm stuck looking like a loli for the next three days."
"Looks like it," said Komachi, not even *trying* to disguise her amusement.
"Right. May I be permitted a short yet violent exclamation?"
"Knock yourself out."
"FAHK!"
"Feeling better?"
"Not by much, but it'll do for now. Oh look, we've reached the other shore just as the conversation is drawing to a close! Isn't that convenient?"
"It's said that the Sanzu has high levels of narrative awareness, being the River of Death and all..."

That's because beats got sick of Touhou and fed up with its fanbase pestering him and removed all of his Touhou illustrations and removed the ability to comment on his Touhou videos, replacing the description on all the Touhou/Walfas videos with "This video is an overrated pile of crap. Don't ever talk to me about it".
