Also, following that chord, he fingers the G chord with the same open fingering as earlier, so he can alternate between the open 3rd and 4th strings (with i) while holding 3rd fret 1st string and 5th fret 6th string. Also, relative to that, the way he plucks in the right hand actually doubles the i finger in the middle of the chord, rather than the bass like you're doing it.
