Since you mentioned those on a budget, buying used on Ebay is a good idea. Books 1 and 5 on hardcover on Ebay are practically being given away by sellers as of late June and early July. Those two can be bought for under $5 each with shipping factored in. As for the rest of the books, the trade paperback editions can be bought for $4 to $7 with shipping included.
Thank you for your review. Really helpful, especially the note about the text size being small in that set of small flexible volumes. And, of course, the first book you are showing is the winner. Cheers!
I just ordered the cloth leather bound set this morning can't wait till they get here Friday I've never read the books or watched the show but heard it's one of the greatest stories of our time
I bought the bantam illustrated edition of the first book and it’s gorgeous... I wish they made a whole set like that. Trying to decide on which ones to get next. Those smaller leatherbound ones are too small for me. Thanks for the review!
I usually like hardbacks, but for some reason I want to read this series in paperback. I got all the books so far. I just need to continue reading them. I read the first book. I'm thinking of going back and re-reading the first book. To refresh myself on the events in the book and continue from there . I was also kind of waiting for winds of winter to come out, but that is taking forever in a day.
I'm usually a fan of hardbacks myself :) I have issues holding the paperbacks once the series gets bigger though. But the advantage of paperbacks are really nice! They'er cheap, and easier to chuck across the room when your favorite character dies. ;)
I had the same question..!! Is it really just the cover? The black edition looks really nice. I live in holland so it is hard to get any information about these illustrated editions. They generally dont sell with english language here in stores. Thanks
The best ones is the normal paperbacks not mass market ones the trade paperbacks because the thick enough and have big enough words to read they have an amazing box the shows the name of books on back and it’s covers with fire and the books and box have like a black dragon scale texture and look really nice there way better then mass market and hardcover but of course if you are a collector you could go for the letter bound but I didn’t just because I preferred the paperback with the seven books due to two of them being split into two parts
Problem with that illustrated version is its a 20th anniverary so you gonna be waiting like 40 years to complete your set of books. I prefer the Hardcover with the colour cover I think
Ashley, sorry, I’m new to this fandom and I’ve only recently took interest in GOT. I don’t quite understand what you said about the prints, mind elaborating?
@@nj7920 What I was saying was these illustrated version were printed 20 years after the original printing so if you bought it and then the next 2 GoT books came out would you be waiting years to get an illustrated version similiar to this vid so your set of books is all similiar. Or would it even be published in some kinda special edition since the hype maybe over?? George RR is involved with HBO to develop prequels of GoT as well so he may not even have time to write books too
awesome video! thanks for all the info. I purchased the boxed set of 5 books recently, they are paperback editions and after watching this ill get the illustrated first book for colecting. any idea if there will be new illustrated editions to the other books?
Yesss, the illustrated edition is just wonderful and I had to buy it. Thank you for replying to me :D I have a question though; I want to buy the leather collection but I'm worried that the font will be too small. Would you say that it's comfortable enough to read?
Does the uk edition of asoiaf have more pages than the us one? I found a 5 volume book set by bantam on amazon, which I assume is the us edition, and it said there was 4272 pages in total. However I also found the 7 volume book set uk edition from Harper Collins and it had 5264 pages, that's almost 1 thousand pages of difference!! So can anyone explain this?
kung lao nope. Clash of kings illustrated will be outNovember this year. GRRM said if they do well then we will prob get storm of swords illustrated in 2020
I haven't had any trouble with them, but I'm also VERY careful with them. (And the one time I wasn't careful, and chucked AcoK across the room, no rel damage happened.) I think it would only be an issue if you tried to lay them flat, and cracked the spine. Which I NEVER do because cracked spines drive me nuts. But they seem pretty durable to me :)
thanks! upon more reviews and stuff i've decided not to chance it, i'm going to get a normal sized 'full' set. probably paperback and then do a custom cover for all of them. between leather or hardcover not sure which yet. :)
So far I bought only game of thrones illustrated edition but for cheap on amazon. Too bad they haven’t released a clash of kings in that format or even have news of it. I’m thinking about getting either the paperback box set or the leather cloth. Which would you prefer?
I'm sad they haven't made the others in the illustrated edition too. I'm going to assume that they didn't sell well enough for them to go through the process of continuing. I'd love if they did though. I like the leather because they are more sturdy in my opinion.
Very good video my lady. Could you tell me if there are more illustrated editions with the rest of the books? I would like to thank you in advance whether you reply me or not :)
Britt i think you're referring to the old slipcase editions. The new ones are wrapped in red Moroccan leather and have the maps etched and gilded on the covers. Beautifully made books, try and look them up :)
Britt they only got released starting december last year. A dance with dragons only just shipped so they are very new to market :) not cheap though so be warned.
Britt yeah I was thinking I was thinking about getting those before the illustrated books are complete cuz I want to own them physically and in a nice set. Also how are they compared to the mass markets? I know they're roughly the same size.
Personally, I tend to hate all paperback books so in my opinion i'd say go with the Faux leather ones. In my opinion, they look much nicer as well. But I hate the current cover designs for the series as well. So once again, if you don't mind what they really look like, the paperbacks are nice enough. But I think the faux leather ones will hold up better over time. Some downsides to both are that the print is really small, and the pages are really thin. The faux leathers paper feels like the paper in a bible, and you could probably fit the book in your pocket if you wanted.
Britt I hate paperbacks too. I'm going to get the Faux leather editions but I'm also going to going to get the hardcovers. I'm going to do this because when TWoW comes I want it to match with the first 5. How about you? I also think the first edition covers are FAR superior
Yep, have all the hardcovers! Haha. Will probably get all the rest of the illustrated editions as well. (If they continue to make them. It didn't look like they sold very well :/)

lol, true :)
Currently on my "first edition only" collection for ASoIaF and Wheel of Time.
Hey great vid, do you know the difference between the black cover and gold cover illustrated editions? (Idk which to buy)
i've never seen a black cover... maybe one is a U.K edition?
Britt Yeah the U.K. edition is black.
I had the same question..!! Is it really just the cover? The black edition looks really nice. I live in holland so it is hard to get any information about these illustrated editions. They generally dont sell with english language here in stores. Thanks
New video when? Pls
I only have hopes and dreams of owning those books 😞
Me too but one day!
@@prachigupta1713 What if they run out of print??
@@johnp.smithasimpleman7281 they'll release new editions
I just got the illustrated version today. $30 on amazon. Worth every penny.
Cool

Yes after 20 years after each initial release ( so dance with dragons will be in 2031 and you will be old when a dream of spring comes out)
I have a 1996 Hard Cover SFBC version. Of A Song of fire and ice.
odd flex but ok
thank you for the information ✌🏻
You're welcome!
What do you think is better, the hardcover or paperback?
Really nice video! I came here for a look on the leather edition. I own the illustrated edition too yay!

Is there a large print paperback set?

a clash of kings illustrated uk edition is coming out in late october and the us one on the 5th of november
I read something about juniper edition. Do you know anything bout it?
I don't :( But I could look into it for you if you'd like?
Is the Harper Voyager edition of book one fake or real
it's real
Noone. Wait for the series to end and then choose.

There aren't any more as of yet! But I think more will come out in the future.
You don't even name the editions !!! 😡
Have you managed to acquire the actual leather bound editions? They're gorgeous
the ones with the bluish grey covers with the gold lettering? I WISH!
