To answer your question at 20:26 In A Game of Thrones, Lord Tywin brings a sellsword company led by a man called Vargo Hoat from Essos called the Brave Companions and among the company are two Dothraki (at least that’s what’s known to us since this company has around 100 members and only a few are named) named Zollo and Iggo. And the dornishman is probably some random man from Dorne that just joined them since I guess it’s very easy to join that company as we see in the case of Rorge and Biter in A Clash of Kings.
@@houstonJPG Don’t beat yourself up too hard, the only Lannister that has a POV in AGOT is Tyrion and he was mostly away from his family in 299 AC so even he didn’t know that, I think it was briefly mentioned in an Arya chapter during her time at Harrenhal in ACOK.
The books and the show are incomparable experiences in my mind, and the older I've gotten, the stronger this feeling has become. A Song of Ice and Fire remains to this day the best fantasy series I have read.
Both the Red Rising and the Stormlight Archives series are my top favorite series pls read them the character development throughout both series is top tier
About the people that capture Jaime and Brienne, in the books they're called the Brave Companions and they're intially hired by Tywin in the first book, then they change sides to the northmen, since they're a foreign sellsword company, there are a lot of members that are from Essos (like Zollo, the Dothraki that maims Jaime) In the show they decided to change them to be just soldiers lead by Locke (a Bolton lieutenant), who kinda resembles Vargo Hoat (the leader of the BC) because of the goatee, kinda sad that they left out the slobbery tongue and the goat helmet
@@houstonJPG I prefer the Brave Companions, they're more colourful and interesting, although I really like the speech Locke gives to Jaime before he cuts his hand off
You should read "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" too! (if you haven't read AFFC yet, you should read it first to notice connections...) And great video!
@@houstonJPGYeah, those books are about Dunk and Egg, whose show was teased briefly after the last episode of House of the Dragon. Some fans even think those novellas are better than the main series.

I really enjoyed this video! I did find it funny, I was finding it interesting his reading technique (sitting at a desk with the book folded out onto it) and I remember thinking 'he's gunna wreck the spines' and then he did a whole segment on how weak the mass market paperbacks are :D
Why does everyone seem to forget World of Ice and Fire also exists? Yes Fire and Blood fleshes out the early Targ material, but World covers the rest of their history and the world geography. Just seems weird no one even makes a passing reference to it anymore.
@@houstonJPG Your call dude. You’ve already got a ton to read lol. It’s been a long time since I read it, but as I remember it’s more of a coffee table style book. So it’s got a much broader scope than Fire and Blood, but it doesn’t go nearly as deep. Also, for all I know it may only be semi-canon at this point. I would say check it out if you are curious, but it’s probably not a necessity. For the record I was just venting my curiosity as to why it seems to be forgotten. I wasn’t trying to say you are doing it wrong or anything.
About the part with Aerea and Balerion, another detail that makes it even more unsettling is the report of the gashes on Balerions’ sides. It horrified the Dragonkeepers and anyone else who saw them, because it had to be something big enough to cause those kinds of wounds, and we know how big Balerion was. We cannot even begin to imagine what could be lurking inside of Valyria, its dark fantasy writing at peak efficiency, it surges with dark magic.
I reccomend The World of Ice and Fire if you haven't read it. It's much like Fire & Blood, only it discusses the knowledge on the entire world, rather than just the Targaryen dynasty.
I'm probably commenting too late, but it would be interesting on a first read-through to try A Ball of Beasts, which is a fan project which combines AFFC and ADWD into one book. A lot of people found Feast to be bit of a slog since the POVs didn't include some fan favorite characters. Either way, hope you enjoy the rest of the series, and I'd like to be the first to welcome you into the camp of those waiting for TWOW ❄
“I’m going to try to read them all in a month.” The moment you said those words, I knew it wasn’t going to happen, but good try 😅 I am predominantly a book reader and only causally watched the show afterward, so it’s interesting seeing your perspective as you did the opposite. Definitely let me know how you like A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons! A lot of first time readers struggle with those books so I’d be keen to hear your thoughts on them
I have watched the show a while back but didn't read the books. Now I've just purchased all the books and I am planning to read through the whole series. Also downloaded some audio versions. By the way it's bad for the eyes to read too much every day in my opinion. What's more I see no point in reading too fast like doing them all in a month or two weeks. No point in that. It's all about enjoying the books not skimming through them, although I have to admit I often read faster than I should or listen to stuff faster than I should. At faster speeds you sometimes don't pay attention or don't have time to mull over the stuff you read. The most important thing about the physical books is the font size. I hate small fonts, especially in lengthy books. The choice should be based on the font sizes. It's gonna be more comfortable to read that way. You actually got books with a good font size, and that's what matters. I have these books probably from the same publisher--also a decent font size. Usually books don't fall apart unless you bend them too much, i.e. even mass market paperbacks should hold. Maybe your cat got them. I'm just kidding 🙂 PS: Hardcover books are better of course, but when you read them it doesn't really matter unless the paper quality is so bad that it's annoying. I don't have a lot of hardcovers, and I don't care much because most of fiction I read only once.
I read the first book last month. It took me about 3 weeks to finish the first book. However I read other things for college not to mention I work too. I read an average of 60 pages a week now
I watch this because I relate lol. Worse, it was during exams. The books were simply too good. Sad that winds of winter has been in the works for thirteen years now. At this rate we'll get GTA VI before winds of winter.

The books are fine, you’re just treating them like shit. Stop cracking their spines, don’t force them open and as a bonus, put contact paper on them and they’ll last 100 years. Other than that great video
The books arent the problem, you bending the spine over and over is. I've owned the same copies you got for over a decade, have read through them twice, and none of mine look half as bad as yours do.
Don't listen to the comments about you not knowing how to take care of the books. The editions you got are low-key super dog ass. No offense. The mass market paperbacks are really bad and it's not just with ASOIAF I've experienced it with the Dune boxset as well. Anytime there's a short fat glued paperback they're always to worst quality. I'd definitely recommend getting the taller editions that have more width next time.
