That is because there isn't any backstabbing here (and Sully wasn't in this one). Backstabbing + Sully = Lot's of writing in invisible book. Personally do I think this game needs a few "screw with other players" cards.
50:25 Rules correction: you can in fact give away beans for free just so long as the person receiving it agrees to take it. This is explicitly spelled out in the rules.
They might've been playing a different version of the rules? There was no talk of buying a third field, and they were able to harvest a field of one bean even when they had a field with more than one. However, it also would not be the first time they got a rule wrong.
I enjoyed the subtitles *Dom loses it* at the bean them and weep moment purely because these words can be applied to any and every video Dom’s in, with the losing it usually directed in Sullivan’s direction or at the universe in general (this is usually a different type of losing it but the point still stands)
I just noticed that a lot of the jokes of this game don't really work in English. The pictures on the bean cards are basically all puns based on the German name of the beans. For example, the green bean is called "Brechbohne" in German, where "Brech" can mean break, but also to throw up. So, you see a green bean throwing up. The blue beans are western gun slingers, because at some point, ammunition was called blue beans (don't know the context), so the blue bean is shooting guns.
Well, the "Green bean" could also be green because of sickness. The "throw up" emoji is green as well... So it is not the same, but it still works. The blue beans however do only work in German. The term is old - like centuries old. As far as I can tell, it was already known in the 17th century. It stands for the blueish sheen of the bullets, as well as the fact, that they are about the same size as beans.
Rule clarification. When you are selling beans, you cannot sell bean fields with only one card in, unless both fields only have one card. There appeared to be several points where people sold a lone bean, when their other field had more beans in it.
Never seen nrb. Tuned in for Ellen. I swear this table looks like a picture of your parents with their biker friend and their college punk friend sitting around a table in the 80s.
One of my all time favorite card games! When I was in school, we had a tradition in my school that during the last two or three days, students, teachers and parents could host mini-courses in basically whatever they liked. I hosted one year a Bohnanza - course, just so that I could play with my friends this game. And I don't know if the joke of the name is explained in this episode (haven't watched it yet), but in german, bean is called "Bohne", so, the name is a pun and would be in eanglish beananza.
33:44 Dom plays his first card out of his hand for turn (his eighth stink bean), so I believe he didn’t have to play the next card out of hand as Laurie indicated he had to?
When I first played this game, the person who owned it handed out card racks so we wouldn't change the order, accidentally or otherwise. There's no way I could have kept myself from absentmindedly sorting the cards if I held them in my hand.
This game is just an absolute classic. It was the first game in my collection many many years ago. It is so unique and engaged all the time, and filled with interesting decisions. An amazing time.
Single beans can't be harvested unless all your fields are single beans. Beans can be gifted/donated (if the receiving party accepts them). There is a 3rd bean field that can be purchased for 3 coins.
Big fan of the channel but it is KILLING ME that you guys are straight up ignoring the bean protection rule. The rule is that: when you harvest, if one of your fields is at 1 card and the other is not, you must harvest the field with more than one card. This is what balances and makes the game.
Last summer I went to Durham for a short break and found a lovely board game shop. At the time, Oxventure Deadlands was at its height of popularity and the Johnny meme “Aw Beans” was trending all over the OX community, so when I saw a card game about beans I was like, “yes please!” I was so excited when they said they were playing Bohnanza because I’ve not played it yet so seeing how it works was really useful; and finding out Ellen was playing was a real bonus, or beanus if you will.
You ARE allowed to give away the turned up cards (but only to a willing recipient). This may help if they have nothing you want. Obviously getting something out of a trade is better, but it may be better to give away a bean that you don't have room to plant and being forced to harvest. Depending on the rules set (it varies across editions) you may be able to buy a Third bean field for 3 gold (this is almost always worth doing).
50:25 Why couldn't Blaire give the Chilli Bean to Dom? I thought there was a special rule allowing active players to give beans to another player, as long as the other player accepts?
I know this video hasn't got the views that some others have but i really loved it - as well as the recent work on chaotic neutral. Really wonderful stuff thank you so much for making it
Meeting you all from the soon to happen crossover with oxventure, gorgeous set, lovely people, but I must say, sir, that mustache, I would let it take me on a promenade through the park any day of the week. Also, so proud of you that no one mentioned beans being flicked even once👏👏😍😍
@@ProdigalGeek I'm sure they will. It's just that it's 2 days away. Not much time left to do a build up. I'll be there for sure, and I only wish nice things for them so would want more people to tune in.
This has been (bean?) my gaming group's go to game for a few years now. It can be as mean as you want it to be and giving a bean away for nothing (a charity bean we call it) is a fantastic mechanic when you realise when giving things away are good for you and people refuse to take them for the same reason. I am not sure if it is mentioned but the number at the top of each card is the amount of that type of card in the deck. It is a quick way to work out if a card is more valuable/dangerous to chase.
Dom and Andy on anything please, the energy is incredible, the improv ability omg just want to see that crossover on anything other than Mario party🔥🔥🔥
Blair being the only one to proudly shout "Get on bean!" at the end is exactly why I love her on NRB.
I would describe Blair as a sparkly personality.
@@lucone2937 - Nah, bubbly... like champagne. Sophisticated but intoxicatingly amusing.
seeing dom's mustache is like rolling around in a warm tub of mud for this little piglet
Oh I hate this... but I also love it
Sobbing cause you’re so right
I would be so concerned, but seeing as I have a drawing of Stalin as Winnie The Pooh leading Piglet to the Gulag... I have no right

My favorite part was when Lorna said it's beaning time and everyone wept
An hour of bean puns. Ellen has found her people.
I bought white beans in tomato sauce and kidney beans in chili sauce today, thanks to this channel.
This is the calmest and nicest I've ever seen Laurie in a negotiation game, bar none 😂

Absolutely phenomenal bean gameplay from Lorna
You could almost say it was...un-bean-lievable gameplay.

I was also thinking this, it makes for a nice extra complication sometimes
"Bean them and weep" will now become a No Rolls Barred reference.
Missed opportunity to have Ellen Rose, Lorna Rose, and Molly Rose in one episode.
You are forgetting about Rosie as well
Maybe if they played Paint The Roses

Having Dom, its like the preverbial rising once again to grace this channel with its light.
Did you guys see Lornas play on the second card? Shes probably the GOAT of bean bases game.
Until I read your comment, I 100% thought her name was Launa loll. It's like ages ago when Brooke thought Laurie was a Larry.

More Oxventure peeps and more NRB. More everything. I LOVE IT ALL!!!!❤❤❤
I feel like Blair would be the perfect person to play a sibling of Ellen’s Merilwen in Oxventure
Appreciate the different time zones you posted for the tournament, it made it much easier to know when it was happening

On Blair’s first turn when dom had to harvest. Should he not have harvested the field with 2 in. Aka the one bean protection rule.
Yeah they do miss a few of the extra bits including the part of trading where you can gift beans as long as the other player accepts.
"Am I winning son?" made me laugh out loud.

Oh snap, I may actually be able to watch the Crokinole Rumble! And we’re getting a new championship? The NRB Lore continues to grow! HUZZAH!
NRB just makes the day better
15:21 I believe you are not allowed to harvest single bean fields.
I’m so glad someone mentioned this! I figured they probably omitted that rule since it admittedly makes the game much harder.
Was looking for this comment lol, this rule omission almost makes the game too easy
I love the evil character Dom has taken on. He's just the best.
Also more Ellen. Please and thank you.
What do you mean? BLAIR is the evil one, Dom is just protecting his precious fields... through REVENGE.

Lorna's prowess as a bean planter never seizes to amaze me
I appreciate that NRB doesn't chase cult of the new games for content. Loved seeing this classic game get played.
I’ve heard a lot about this game and how good it is, so I’m glad to finally see it in action here on Board Game Club!

To quote the 2023 Jingle Jam Poker Tournament: "The women are colluding!"
Actually you can just give beens to others for nothing in return (as long as they are willing to have them)
Love you all but especially Ellen! *Waves from Connecticut* hi, y'all, happy new year 🐉🎆🎇🥂
What Bonhanza is the same name in english? I always thought it was a joke in german cause its bean and the german word would be Bohne. So Beanhanza
First time I heard about the game and played it, the one who brought the game to table presented it like it was jumanji, but more real.
It's bean wonderful seeing how well Lorna. I haven't finished the video, so I may need to change my mind. lol
Yall need to have Luke on as well.

When are one of you gonna be on Oxventure. I’d love to see that
I love crokinole! we play it all the time in canada! specially with my cousins and other relatives. It's a folksy canadian staple
I see you uys like having Ellen on. How about a NRB vs OXBox match up?
Loved the Dusty homage at the beginning Laurie.
I would like to see this game being played one more time just this time by the rules.
Such a simple game yet you managed to completely fail the rules
When you accidentally waste a top tier catchphrase on a misplay
