Real time mode is so much fun in this game! Highly recommend, if anybody ever has the opportunity to play, that you try that mode instead. Also a rules note - you are supposed to announce your location when you surface. It’s a balancing rule so that players don’t abuse surface to make themselves basically undetectable
I can see myself playing real time mode with my friends. It'd be a hilarious disaster, as they'd try to be louder than each other and everyone would end up being so confused 😂
I only got to play this once and we did the real-time version of the game. It was the most chaotic, hectic and stressful gaming experience I've ever had and it was some of the most fun I've ever had with a game. Definitely worth it if you can fill out a full table.
I could totally see a house rules episode of this with Dom as a 3rd party anti submarine Air Force that drops sonar buoys and torpedoes. The buoys would be able to detect a sub within say 2 squares around it. He can only have 4 buoys active at a time, dropping 1 per turn except every 5th turn where the aircraft must refuel. He had 1 anti sub helicopter as well that can launch 1 torpedo before needing to refuel. Perhaps he had an aircraft carrier that the subs can work together to hunt down to end his reign of terror (with more hit points of course)
Two significant rules mistakes: You can't use two systems back to back. You have to move in between each system activation. When you surface, you must announce which sector you are in.
I do love the team strategy games, you get to seem them working together, but get the competitive banter between teams. It is great when they pull off an amazing move! I would love to seem more of these kinds of games played.
Big mistake for Purple to surface that last time, they had 3 rounds to win there. I kinda remember that surfacing told the enemy of where you were though so it is something you only do when the enemy is either at the opposite side of the map or when you are about to crash.

In my house rules it is real time and the speed you move determines how often you have to announce movement to simulate sound better. We also consider active sonar, and other things that give away you positive. I am trying to work out a way to incorporate depth and the thermal layer. Then the next project is to add surface ships and aviation.
This game is the best! I've owned the game for years but only played it twice, since finding a lot of people to play it is hard (and Corona didn't help either), but it was still worth every penny. The real time version is chaos, but the best kind of chaos.
fun fact: domino thought it could actually compete in italy because of multiple "innovations" in their delivery systems not because of the quality or competiveness of the pizza itself, they wanted to open at over 800 locations, but then nonovirus hit and the entire sector moved to delivery and had a massive surge making domino fully obsolete, in the end only less than 30 locations were opened and domino closed in italy in 2022
I initially misread "nonovirus" as "norovirus" and was like, "Domino's caused the stomach flu so badly in Italy that they shifted the entire restaurant industry there?!"
So first Jon redid a turn in the lord of the board final and then Jon's team used Sonar when they couldn't. Typical dirty tricks from a heel. I wont recognise this lord until he has a clean victory 😂

The engineers and first mates are using the wrong side of their sheets. The turn-by-turn side is a lighter colour and has fewer moves to charge the system.
If you want to make John as Roman then you need Blair to be Paul and bring the crown when John make enterance in house rules event. Holly gonna be Solo and be the advantage.

Yeah, this game is made for real time. The turn based mode is only really there for when you don't have enough players.
