One of the best vids out there, effectively a "how to use compression" master class. I've meddled with compressors for a while without getting the tone I was looking for. This demoes the interaction between tone/volume control, pup, the pedal and the amp across single coils and humbuckers combined with some very tasty playing. Only one suggestion, to get 12 out of 10 I would have loved to see you use the comp to beef up a slide guitar sound.
best compressor out there in my opinion, this pedal has a unique clarity that I haven't find elsewhere, it compresses but also gives a nice clarity to the signal. I am impressed indeed.
Cool compressor. Seems to add articulation, punch and presence. I don't like the "squishy" compressors either. I have a Boss CS3 that I used to use and I've tried several others such MXR, but I thought it squished my tone way too much. I really like the Barber Tonepress. Been using it for several years now. There's a blend knob which lets you blend in your natural uncompressed tone along with the compressed tone. You can use it as a straight compressor or as a clean boost. Great compressor. The Accountant seems very versatile. Heard good things about the Keeley compressor too though I've never tried one. Thanks~Dan
Not exactly. It's just a matter of preference. Tons of clones of TS pedals out there. Try them all! Haha For starters, try the Ibanez TS9 or TS10. I have a BYOC TS style pedal I love. For wah, I like the Dunlop standard crybaby. I also have a Reece RMC-5 which is fantastic. See ua-cam.com/video/wLrP-UdpVSs/v-deo.html
Dear Robert. Have been a fan of yours for years and it seems you have finally hit the big time ( True Fire ) LOL. Congrats. I am impressed with that compressor however this question. My pedal board holds in this order from guitar to amp. Tube Screamer / Love Pedal Les Lius/ Carl Martin Plexitone. The tones the Fairfax Comp produces are great but would I be going into " over kill " by adding a compressor to that line up ?
Hi Pie! Thank you! This compressor is different than the pedals you have. It doesn't produce a lot of overdrive like those other pedals you have. If you like a somewhat clean tone that still have the dynamics of a cranked amp, you would like this pedal. I find this pedal brings out a sparkle of my amp. I don't use it with other gain pedals or with a lot of amp distortion, but a light crunch on the amp, and then add this pedal - tone heaven (for me).
***** It is a fantastic pedal, and not noisy. However, any compressor will introduce noise if you bring up the gain enough, especially with other gain pedals being used. I never use it with an overdrive pedal - that has no purpose for me. My overdrive pedal will give me compression anyway, so I use this compressor on clean sounds only. If I want more "oomph", I may use a boost pedal to give it "one more"... ;)
You need to turn your guitar amp up: it's so incredibly quiet that a lot of the sound the mic is picking up (and we are hearing) is acoustic, it comes straight off the guitar.
You won't feel like putting down ur guitar once youre hook up to this compressor. Thanks for the demo Robert. Cheerz.

Thanks, good point. It will work awesome for slide, no doubt.
I love the Badger amp sound and the greenback spkr making it a delight! So Sweet!
Thanks, glad you like the tone!

Great demo, Robert!
Thanks for the demo - the best I’ve seen of this pedal.
Very nice review, Robert! This pedal inspired you to some good playing and beautiful sound.
Yeah, this pedal really inspires me.
Nice direct sound, I wonder how the compressor sounds without your direct guitar tone, breathing etc. overshadowing everything.
What?

Awesome demo, Robert. Sounds like you're plugged straight into a vintage Bassman.
Thanks, great to hear!
Looking forward to using this on my acoustic guitar sound whole pick up set up. Combining with it my Lucydreamer
Awesome, awesome demo!
Nice demo - and the finish on your Strat looks like glass

nice playing!
Thanks Micha!
very cool
Hey Robert, you said this is one of your 3 favorite pedals of all time....what are the other two??
Tube screamer and crybaby wah
any tube screamer style and crybaby in particular?
Not exactly. It's just a matter of preference. Tons of clones of TS pedals out there. Try them all! Haha

Thanks for your consistent and excellent work!
bought this pedal but ended up selling it. it has a lot of hiss and the compression was not natural sounding / feeling to me.

Robert Renman Thank you Robert. I understand what you are saying.
I got the Xotic comp a while ago, wish I waited now.....
Nicholas Dentato The Accountant is incredible. Highly recommended.
Robert Renman Do you notice any noise with the pedal at all? Especially when using it with more overdrive on your amp or with overdrive pedals?

I would love to hear it on a heavy distortion :c
Will it work with a solid state?

My compressor is pretty noisy, how is this one in that respect, Robert?
Not noisy, no. Unless to turn it up all the way, of course! But it's very flexible, you can set it to low compression - very little noise.
how in the heck is your guitar that clean. ill polish mine, set it down, and notice like 12 fingerprints...
Ps: You are awesome!!
Thank you very much!
NICE! Thanx!
It's certainly nothing to look at, but sounds great.
I've seen them in a shop. They have that sort of British or Canadian WWII airforce gear look. Pretty neat, actually.
wish they had painted a dick on it too
