- This is my first time working with a newer Phantom model putter. Cerakoted in Graphite Black. This one didn't need a full restore, just a little touching up with some hand sanding. And it turned out great!

The 5.5 has been my new favorite putter since it was released -- best looking mallet putter out there imo. The all black takes it to another level... looks so clean!
Thanks so much! I totally agree. This one is a customers putter, but I am currently working on another "Tour" style putter for myself, and its with my 5.5 also!!
Man you can never go wrong with that black. so nice and clean looking! awesome job

Another great one, thank you for continuing to upload and teach. Thanks for the Hat last week too!
Thanks so much!
I love the simplicity of this one. I’m partial to black and red, but the black and silver with white was great. Keep killing it! Hope to see the channel grow. Wish I could see my Scotty on there lol.
Thanks!
Wow! Absolutely amazing.
Thank you! I have a personal Phantom I'm working on currently. Going to be a big custom one like my Newport!
Gorgeous!
Thank you!
Just found this channel, because I have been looking at Scotty Cameron putters for the upcoming season. This putter is beautiful and you do a great job of showing the process. Keep up the good work!
Thanks so much!
❤great Job!!!😊
How excited were you to have a nice Scotty Cameron come through the shop and not one that need a ton of worK??? As always great job man!!
Thanks a lot! And yes, it was quite nice not having to do a full restore!
🔥🔥🔥
Thanks!
Another great job man, kudos! 👏 After you soaked it in acetone how long did you put it in the toaster oven for and what temp? By the way, whatever was coating my betti is some tough stuff. I had it soaking in that chemical for about 10 hours today and it only took the majority off. I'm hoping the blast cabinet with strip the rest. The pro platinum and tad moore wasn't a problem though, it came right off in about 3 hours.
I bake the parts for about an hour at 200-250° after the soak.
Just curious what you’re using to put the paint in the lettering? Is that a micro paint brush? And do you let the paint fully cure before wiping off excess with acetone, or is the paint still wet?
Thanks for the videos. I’ve been tinkering with some of my putters because of your channel.
It's just a tiny bristled hobby brush. And yes I wait for it to fully dry before wiping. I use paper towel and acetone. And sometimes q-tips to clean out hard to reach areas.
Very nice job, it looks amazing . What paint do you use to fill the letters .
Testers Enamel
Quick question, I just ordered this model and wanted to get it painted black but leave the three circles their natural chrome color. Would that be difficult while doing the sand blasting process? How would you handle that process? Thanks in advance and appreciate the vids
I use heat resistant stickers cut to the exact size of the rings. I have multiple different sizes for the rings. So it keeps them clean while blasting. But you will still have to polish them with a dremel after blasting, and clean that up after cerakoting.
@@igolf906 thanks for the info!
What size tip shaft did you pop on it as I’m not sure what I need to reshaft mine with the blacked out shaft, is it .355 or .370? Thanks
.390
How long did you torch the weights and screws before they came loose?
5 to 10 seconds. Making sure I don't overdo it either because there's an oring inside.
is the jet-neck welded to the head inside of the putter? was trying to get a good look at it.
I believe these are yes.
Hi. What method would you recommend to smoothen the putter face? I want to remove the grooves and have a smooth face on my Newport 2.5
Well if you dont have any tools, you can find a nice flat surface somewhere and use good ole sandpaper.
@@igolf906 that's neat to know. Thank you I will give it a try.
@@kidze73 if you watch my video on the 2nd Odyssey Rossie (with the polished sole) I did, I actually use that same method for the face.
@@igolf906 I just saw it. That was awesome. So you recommend taking the head out and lay the sandpaper on the ground like that?
@@kidze73 yes on something flat. Like a countertop or something. I use this old piece of granite. Got it as scrap from a granite shop. Works great.
hey bro ... amazin!! can you do irons? and does it wear off ? I got a set of honma rose protos. would like it in black out. got c taper lites limited edition on back order. you interest doin mine 4 to pw heads while I wait for the shafts to arrive?
Cerakote will not hold up with irons unfortunately. Would be fun to try but not worth it in the end. If you want them blacked out check out online for something called N11 coating or something like that. Theres a few companies that do it and its specifically made to black out irons and wedges.
What's the 500 grit sandpaper do?
This putter didn't need a full restore. So I didn't have to use the convolute wheels on it. So some simple sandpaper got out all the very tiny dings and scratches before prepping for cerakote.
What brand and type of paint do you use for the lettering? I keep trying Testoros and it comes right off!
I've never had an issue with Testors or Tamiya paint. As long as it's prepped properly it should last a while.
@@igolf906 thanks for the info. Is there anything else I should look for other than non-oil based. Or will any water-based acrylic do
@TurdFergusson318 Not really an expert on paints themselves but. I just stick with those two brands as they are the most widely used. I've also heard of people using fingernail polish but I've never tried.
So no epoxy holding the base plates on these?
Nope. But what isn't shown in this video is there is small pieces of double sided tape on it, along with loctite on the screws. That's how they come from the factory also.
Hey, I’m thinking to diy my bettinardi blade putter I have all black too. I was just curious if you could give me the steps of the whole process so I could try it myself!
Replied
this is so sick. and very satisfying haha how much would you charge to do mine??
Email me at igolf906@gmail.com I can get a you a price sheet
Whats the black paint you used for the putter.
It's Cerakote
Which series Cerakote did you use here?
I use H series for putter heads, C series for shafts.
how much to have this done to a fairly new phantom 7.5???
Shoot me an email, would be happy to talk!
What do you charge and can you do a copper like Finnish ?
Not currently taking any more putters in right now but feel free to email me.
I have this exact putter, would you do custom work?
Shoot me an email
Is graphite black shinnyer than the glacier black.
Not sure. Glacier black is a C series air cure cerakote. I only coat putters in the H series. I have tried the Black Velvet c series and it's a nice smooth satin black. Im using that on shafts.
@@igolf906 alright thanks for your quick response. I really enjoy the work you do. It pretty awesome.
next video can you check the weight before and after? thanks
A standard restore loses between 3 & 5 grams. Very negligible.
@@igolf906 do you have a website with pricing?
@@latenite3931 I do not. But you can email me anytime with any questions.
what type of paint you use for that black finish ?
It's Cerakote
@@igolf906 Thanks, you do an amazing job to this golf clubs sir
@@igolf906 And you use in spray or mix the acrylic with some resin ?
with the tamiya paint
@Austin Moncayo the tamiya is just a regular paint. I use isopropyl alcohol for the Dots to make the paint flow better. The cerakote you mix with a hardener and is a bake on coating.
You do custom work for other golfers?
Most of my videos are of customer putters.
@@igolf906 do you have a website or store. Thanks. Awesome work
@@igolf906 I have a 5.5 I would like get blacked out
@blainetsukayama4513 No I just do everything through email. And I currently am not taking in any putters until probably end of fall. Check back here on my YT page often, I will post when I'm ready to take work again.
@@igolf906 thank you
What do you charge for a job like this?
I'm currently not taking any putters in right now but, feel free to email me for details.
It will always chip and look damaged. Anything black is high Maintenance ….Where as classic steel is so forgiving. I use a high quality car polish to keep my Scotty 5.5 always looking like new!
It's what people want 🤷♂️
not blacked out but still nice change. don't like the white
