So you're asking if I'd be cool with Spotify taking something I already pay for, taking it away, and making me pay an additional subscription for? No. No I would not be okay with that.
It's funny how I didn't notice what Amazon is doing until someone literally spell it out to me. It's so obvious in hindsight, and kinda genius. I don't trust Amazon's own products except for the Fire brand, so I guess it didn't work for me.
@WolfgangLMclain It's pretty straight forward. In the US, it can't be antitrust until it's bad for the consumer. Amazon is constantly cutting prices down. Walmart has been doing the same thing for years, neither will get stopped by the US
@@Manganization They are screwing everyone with this. It's not exactly a new concept, it's a little similar to how Nandos have screwed their franchisees in some countries but it's not only that, Amazon screwing sellers over will do is lead to cheaper quality/knockoff products and even more customer dissatisfaction. The standard of product has already deteriorated to the point you just never know what the fuck you're buying anymore. I dunno about other people's reasons for sticking with them but I simply can't justify using them anymore, even if they weren't such a scumbag corporation.
They allow small companies to compete at a market level they hadn't previously been able to since they can just sell shit online. I mean, its not as simple as that, but at least anyone can sell in the same marketplace now.
Well 1 good thing is that the woman in charge is also the one that fined Google 9.5 billion and she said that Amazon and FB were next on her hitlist and this initial finding means she is about to shaft Bezos without using any lube and Zuck is next.
It's a circus, why should a company have to care about the well being of another company? It makes absolutely no sense. Imagine creating your own product and having the government forcing you to improve the sales of a competitor product?? Absolutely insane.

@xBluegamerx. Sounds like you know nothing about Amazon. While they do seem to apply some predatory practises (should be countered), they're paying their employees double the minimum wage, at least $15 an hour. The conditions are better at the Amazon than many other workplaces, if we place the burden and strenuous assignments aside. Imo, too many companies have managed to squirm their way into either a oligopoly or a monopoly in the world today. It’s long past due for them to be brought back into a competitive market.
The big issue with the -opilies of the Internet is that there isn’t really a “physical good” or anything of the businesses at hand that can be easily controlled this way by law. Plus an issue that comes up is that a lot of people don’t necessarily want to wade through 5, 10, 20 sites for a set of kitchen knives

Well you know how these things go. I mean even it's designation as a tax was kind of a twist so they twisting it again to try and remove the whole thing.
That is what you get if you try to apply or rule on law ‚strictly as written‘ instead of trying to find out what the larger intention behind it was. It might sound counterintuitive but longer, more precisely written laws interpreted strictly as written usually have more loopholes than more vaguely formulated laws. That is basically the reason behind why some companies actually want to expand the tax code. If they can make it more complicated and more precise chances are they will find a loophole.

The $0 tax still being a tax is not legally correct. The legal definition of tax is a government assessment or charge. If there is no assessment or charge at all then there is by the legal definition no tax. If there was still the $x fee then it was waved then there would still be a tax, even in just a strictly legal sense. Since the tax was zeroed out it legally, probably, doesn't meet the strict legal definition.

I think there should be a crackdown on Amazon. Especially when it comes to their marketplace which has now been inundated with knock-offs and untested products from overseas that may not be "safe". The idea that "anyone" can sell on Amazon is great in theory, but it makes things hard for actual brands and companies who have to compete with knockoffs that are cheaper than their products, and their "real" products aren't being featured to quickly add to a cart.
I’ve personally been ripped off twice on the marketplace by fraudulent 3rd party sellers who amazon had to kick off the site. In 2016, the left could not accept their candidate lost and now the right is feeling the same way.
Wholeheartedly agree with the EU in this Amazon suit. On top of what you mentions companies can also sell their products to Amazon.com for them to sell (instead of them knocking you off as you mentioned). However Amazon then has control over the pricing of YOUR product and can lower it as they’d like. This means that if you’re selling a product and Amazon buys the product as well you could essentially be forced to lower your price or take down the product until Amazon.com sells through their stock. Super shady!
Isn't that exactly how stores and competition work? They buy wholesale and sell retail and set their own prices. That's why every grocery store can sell M&Ms candies at different prices and don't have to match the super-expensive price they charge at the M&M store in Las Vegas, for example. That's why it's always been smart to shop around so you can get the same name-brand item at the cheapest price at the store that's having the sale. Without that, all prices would be set by the manufacturer and could never be set lower by the store and we'd all be paying umpteen times more for all our electronics and appliances. I don't see how being the first to resell an item gives you any right to determine who else gets to resell it at what prices. Unless you've secured some kind of exclusivity right or no-compete clauses (that would be the kind of thing that would get an anti-trust investigation started), but then you'd have a contract to rely on. How is it any different than some other seller selling the same item as you at a lower price and not Amazon doing it? The only difference is that they are letting you set up a little shop in a corner of their store instead of them being the next store over. I guess the alternative is that they could just kick you out entirely if they wanted to sell something you've been or started selling, but I don't see how that would be a better option for your business.
I wouldn’t mind it if they gave us the option to turn off ads on podcasts by paying for a subscription, but I would stop listening or watching podcasts if they charged for access even with ads.
My sister works for Spotify and confirmed this rumor isn’t true. I agree though but the ads don’t really bother me much. It’s like Phil doing an ad most the time
Think even at that it’s a slippery slope. By the time you know it, it’ll be like UA-cam where the frequency of ads increases over time in an effort to feed their greed/“growth” or push more people towards their paid subscription service. I’d prefer the podcasts themselves retain sponsorship control and simply include it as most do now as a brief intermission. Being on Spotify should be seen as just an additional “sponsor” in effect by paying the podcasts. The best podcasts drive the traction to their paid service. That way podcasts owners can demand a fair price
@@olutobii I think most of UA-cam’s ads, especially mid roll, are the creators putting them in there. There are plenty of creators that don’t have any ads at all bc they aren’t doing it for the money or as their main source of income. I have premium Spotify, and the only ads I get for podcasts (which I listen to everyday) are the organizations playing the ad in their podcasts themselves. Like the hosts read the ad. These are companies like the NYT and NPR, which in the case of NYT I don’t have to my additional for that like their newspaper. So in that respect I’m fine with an ad or 2 in a 30 minute podcast. Still less then radio.
Mary Motch You’d be surprised actually . I found out the other day that’s it’s an auto feature to have your videos “optimised” with ads and the only way to disable them is to go into each video and manually turn off the ads which I think is unreasonable if they have loads of videos. UA-cam could allow for the blanket removal across all videos but it’s not a feature which kinda shows they don’t necessarily want people disabling ads. Gotta remember they get a cut also so an in monetised video is costing them server space. Oh and on hour point on how podcasts currently monetise, yeah I agree that’s what I meant by leaving it in the control on the podcasters

As long as I have to worry about ads in or around my podcasts, I will never use Spotify. There are plenty of other platforms out there that can get podcasts from the RSS feed that I won't need it.
And yet thanks to it the consumer gets the absolute best deals thus raising the standard of living. Also it is heavily regulated which is why Amazon has lobbies and you don't see new alternative platforms come up. So saying "unregulated" is bullsht and also ignoring the fact that the consumer wins is an extreme form of a false narrative. If someone on your street closes up shop because their business is not viable anymore, do you care if it was done by another small business or a corporation? Well, you shouldn't, because as a consumer you win either way. So sad to see Phil's audience being so anti-capitalist for no fking reason when it is the reason his show exists and you get to enjoy his show. Sad. Very sad.

It's very bothersome that all the politics focus on the insurance side of medical care when the real issue to the American people is the inflated price of the care by the hospitals and medicine providers. No one ever talks about how it costs next to nothing to actually produce medicine that can save people's lives and because there's such a demand for it, the providers just mark the price up by thousands of a percent up. If that insane markup was outlawed or at least controlled then the need to have insurance would be nullified entirely. No one would have to worry about working off their debt for the rest of their lives. But of course al these providers are in the government's pockets so we will never see that fixed.

Secretary Raffensperger indicated that the democratic process, that has been so scrutinized in this election cycle, has been upheld (as evidenced by these runoffs), with his intent seeming to be curbing the political extremism that we may see in the coming campaigns. I certainly hope that post-runoff, everyone (Georgians and all Americans), remember that regardless of the outcome, any state could have been the deciding factor in the Senate majority. Any Republican could have flipped a Democrat seat or vise versa. I am worried that we will see hate aimed at Georgia, either way the runoff goes, due to the current national political climate and circumstances. PS Phil and rest of the team, if you want any information from a local resident, I am happy to respond to any inquires regarding the events, feelings of residents, or other pertinent info in this upcoming campaign. PPS I voted by mail during the general election, due to COVID concerns, but ended up getting COVID anyways (COVID-free now). I will be voting in person, as there are concerns from many that we will see the mail-in voting process restricted, as we have seen earlier this year.
They want to be known as the podcast app. However most these podcasts are still on several different platforms so it’s not a monopoly. But it’s where they are investing their money, they see it as the future. I think that it’s more similar to google but not bc Spotify is still just audio. Fb is different and I guess this is more similar to Twitter. What separates fb and google is that they are ad companies at the end of the day.
Do these companies not realize that the only reason podcast are so popular is because they are free and easy to make(compare to other content) they are the replacement to talk show radio which was also free

If I have to pay so that there are no ads on my podcasts, then I'm not even going to consider downloading Spotify. Sorry to Joe Rogan, I like his work but I'm poor.
Most podcasts I not only wouldn't pay Spotify for, I wouldn't even launch the app to see them. I'm so used to getting my podcasts via RSS that if one stops I'll probably forget about it. Dynamic ad insertion is also really bad for most of the podcasts I listen to, and worries me because normally an ad is just part of the episode and can be skipped like any other segment.
No one is surprised that Amazon is anti-competitive, the whole copying-popular-products-to-sell-at-a-discount thing is kind of what they're known for. It doesn't matter that their knock-offs are usually terrible quality compared to the originals, because they funnel consumers to those products. Look at how they treat their employees... it's not really a stretch to imagine they treat their business rivals even worse...
Okay, let me get this straight - the ACA law required Americans to have some kind of health insurance, otherwise they'd be fined. Then, the Republicans made the fine $0. Then, they argued that since the fine is $0, the ACA is not a tax and is therefore unconstitutional. I mean, surely I'm not the only one who finds the entire thing ridiculous?

The big issue with the -opilies of the Internet is that there isn’t really a “physical good” or anything of the businesses at hand that can be easily controlled this way by law. Charging zero dollars on a "tax" doesn't mean the tax stops existing it just means that they aren't leveraging the "tax".
Well you know how these things go. I mean even it's designation as a tax was kind of a twist so they twisting it again to try and remove the whole thing.
Then there’s no point in having the tax if they’re not collecting
That is what you get if you try to apply or rule on law ‚strictly as written‘ instead of trying to find out what the larger intention behind it was.
It might sound counterintuitive but longer, more precisely written laws interpreted strictly as written usually have more loopholes than more vaguely formulated laws.
That is basically the reason behind why some companies actually want to expand the tax code. If they can make it more complicated and more precise chances are they will find a loophole.
@@killergoose7643 That's kind of right but it would be easier to collect if it's already there. That's not the point of the case in the video though, they're more trying to attack the entire ACA using this as an excuse.

If there is no assessment or charge at all then there is by the legal definition no tax. If there was still the $x fee then it was waved then there would still be a tax, even in just a strictly legal sense. It does? That's the type of crap every dipshit says these days.
Dude I was a Trump supporter in 2016, but this is freaky man. Literally millions of people are worshiping this guy and everything he does and will kill and die for him. He lost very obviously and millions of people genuinely can't see it.
Glad you came to terms with reality. Admirable.
Many people want an investigation to make sure there is no fraud. Let it happen. We dealt with Democrats investigating trump for nearly his entire presidency and that didnt even find anything.
I'm not even American and I remember in 2000 Gore was heralded as winner for a month before Bush got given the verdict.
The whole thing is suss as always over there and a flip wouldn't surprise me. Everyone thinking their team has won before the end is premature, it won't age well and I wouldn't be surprised if people throw tantrums if it does flip and even if it doesn't.
@@AcSlaytah56 I am 100% okay with an investigation and recount. The problem is if the results are the same and Biden is confirmed they still won't accept it. That is gonna cause some serious problems.
@@HumbugShow Gore was never projected to be the winner of the 2000 election because Florida was too close. Gore and Bush were separated by a few hundred votes. That's not the case with this election. The states that Trump wants a recount in are Arizona and Georgia, where Biden leads both states by nearly 13k votes, Wisconsin where he leads by over 20k votes, Nevada where he leads by nearly 40k and Pennsylvania where he leads by nearly 50k votes. Recounts can shift votes by a couple hundred one way or the other, it doesn't shift them by the 10s of thousands.
There's nothing "suss" about what's going on here aside from Trump throwing a temper tantrum because he lost.
“We will have a smooth transition to a second Trump administration.” What the actual...
I have said it since I worked there. I will never stop saying it; Amazon is a terrible company. I only ever go to amazon when I can not reasonably purchase a product via any other means; even then, i'll often check to see who their vendors with good prices are and go support them directly through that. Basically, using it as it should be used--a source. Amazon should've collapsed under it's own bloated weight a long time ago, and the only reason it does no do so is that there's a LOT of people breaking their backs for pennies on the dollar in the warehouses, distribution centers, and stores.
Fuck that company. Rip that monster to pieces, and burn the pieces. That'll really help small businesses.
I remember when Republicans went crazy over Hillary not conceding from the first night 😅

Amazon doesn't always make their own version of a product. Many times they will straight up steal your supplier from you. The company I work for sold a ton of a certain brand of gloves for many years. Profitable for both them and us, etc. Then, Amazon decided to make an exclusive deal with the supplier to buy a huge supply if they stopped other merchants from selling. Source: Communication from the supplier specifically banning us from selling their product on Amazon.
Basically, we (and other merchants) did all the work of marketing and building up the brand and sales volume, then they just stole it out from under us.
It’s always interesting to see people defend the “free and open” market as the giants in each industry actively squash smaller businesses into oblivion
but libertarian Jo Jorgensen thought this would be fixed by getting RID of antitrust laws so it must be true.....right? RIGHT?
I want to bash my head against a wall sometimes
If they’re operating this way now....they’ll definitely come to their senses and prioritize their workers and other small businesses in an unregulated, untaxed market!!🤤🤪🥴

A free and open market will always lead to this situation.
That are propped up by the government. Doesn’t sound like free market to me

Or are you talking about Amazon paying people so little that a full time employee needs state benefits to get by?
Anywhichway, this is still inevitable.
As wealth pools, it draws with it power, when it becomes more profitable to manipulate governments than it does provide better goods and services, business will go for the former.

Trump thought Amazon should be broken up for being a monopoly.
@ I'm sure if Alibaba was as popular as amazon worldwide it would be the same tale, and would meet the same fate as Huawei.
@ actually on quite the contrary, alibaba doesn't have its own warehouse, so they don't suppress other businesses to promote their own products. Amazon does this with all the products that it realises is selling well. Its not because Alibaba is a Chinese company, but that their business model is very different from Amazon's business model.
"Nobody respects women more than me"
And yet Amazon votes democrat and gets payouts by people like the one u just voted president... comparing him to trump is a joke

I’m actually super afraid that the SC is going to gut the ACA.. I have pre-existing conditions and I’m still on my parents insurance right now. If, overnight, I lost my health insurance, I’d be screwed. Just paying for health insurance through my work would take more than half of my paycheck every two weeks leaving me with about $100 per week... no one can live off of that!! I’m so tired of not being able to make enough money to survive on my own without my family’s help!
I got my money back because of their a-z protection policy but it made me leery of 3rd party sellers. 3rd party sellers also argue for days over refunds with you when amazon’s immediate. Monopolies have consequences but we can’t pretend there isn’t a reason we favor certain companies heavily because of price, convenience and customer service,
Not to mention all the art and idea theft that blatantly occurs
Thank you another reason to hate Amazon.

Like how we pay premium tickets at the movies and still have several commercials running at the start 🤬

"these shoes are great in the snow!" - Phil (who lives in L.A.) 🤔
You can get from downtown LA to the snow in under an hour, traffic permitting. Were one of (I think 2?) Places in the world where you can go surfing, skiing, and go to sand dunes all in one day.
As long as I have to worry about ads in or around my podcasts, I will never use Spotify. There are plenty of other platforms out there that can get podcasts from the RSS feed that I won't need it.
Wow, as far the Amazon story, I never would have guessed that unregulated capitalism would negatively affect small businesses. 🙄
Well, the EU does not endorse _unregulated_ capitalism, so they're at least _trying_ to do something about it 😅
And yet thanks to it the consumer gets the absolute best deals thus raising the standard of living.

As a native Georgian, I am absolutely terrified of the coming weeks. GA has actually had a fairly balanced political leaning (several condensed populations leaning liberal and rural areas leaning conservative) for the past few decades, despite seeming to be always red, so these runoffs don't really surprise me. However with situation as it is, we are looking at the power, money and attention of national elections being condensed into the state. I was appreciative for the GA Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger's response to the statements of Kelly Loeffler and Senator David Purdue that suggested a corrupt election process.
