      @@Biancaso92 Thankfully it's not my story, but it's one many of my classmates share. It circles back to debt. Most of us are half a million dollars (without interest) sunken in, which we'll have paid off by retirement age if lucky. In order to pay off those loans, we're pushed toward specializations that often take 7+ years of training to achieve, that have little patient interaction; in fact, we're trained to have only 10-15 mins of patient contact time. Depending on how malignant the program is, relationships with attendings are variable (pimping, etc), there is variable amount of support from management toward doctor-patient care and liability, etc.
      Thankfully I have a good support system and am a little bit older, so I know how to get by on 20-30K, so my choices arent so much dictated by my finances. We expect the mental toll of dealing with death, the never-ending studying, the weight of responsibilities when going into the profession. However, for a lot of young docs that enter med school with the expectation of Ye Olde Country Doc, they get disillusioned with the changing landscape and automated patient care.

    Lots of us have studied Law, gotten our degrees, completed our training, passed the Bar exam, being called to the Bar, got sworn in and registered as solicitors/advocates/attorneys/barristers etc, but have not actually practised Law, because of that tiny little detail NO ONE tells you about before embarking on that 5-10 year journey of sleep-less, stressful and financially crippling endeavour: you'll never get a job unless you have the right contacts.

    • @nobad6134
      @nobad6134 5 років тому +41

      Wrong. If you go to a top law school, get above average grades and are basically competent then you definitely will get a job. The point is keeping it if the job works for you.

      @ludwig amadeus It's something people disagree over. Some people argue for the preservation of Scots. I think it's a waste of time teaching us to read a "language" that no one writes in. I use the term "language" loosely because most of the words are just English words pronounced differently. But I do like that we're taught Scots poems and plays in school. It's worth learning about the history at least.

    I loved this movie.. honestly sent me down a rabbit hole of Gerard's other movies. I haven't had an actor or performance have that effect on me in a while. Not just is he incredibly talented and relatable but he's such a genuine person, humble, can poke fun at himself, funny and he isn't like alot of actors who answer in circles and never make sense, he has an actual intelligent conversation while being down to earth and good fun. And then he's studied and practiced law..

    I find it interesting that the UK native actors nail the American "dialect" perfectly; there are so many dialects in the UK it's probably quite the challenge for American actors to learn and speak many of them. I'd no idea Gerard Butler was native and speaker of the Scottish dialect until now. Funny how it's hard to imagine your own native-speak as a dialect.
    For some of the UK dialects I need subtitles; I wonder if American dialect ever presents such a challenge to UK speakers?
