love all those floyd rose approximations from back in the day, a single locking bridge system with fine tuners🤪

In ‘86 I got a Model 4. It got me through the following year at G.I.T./Musicians Institute. Kahler, active pickups... it was a great guitar. Took me years before I could fully appreciate the quality of these Japanese Charvels considering the high quality of their San Dimas made predecessors, but looking back my Model 4 was a much sharper axe than I have ever given it credit for.

did you figure out how to intonate it yet? if not pop the back trem plate off and look in the bridge and you will see Allen screws check it of the 12th it its out loosen the strings and adjust it like that. I have the exact same guitar. Let me know if you need any help, I am a guitar luither .thanks

I have a Charvel very similar to this one which I believe I purchased circa mid-1980’s. Mine has a Floyd Rose tremolo though. I always thought it was a Model 2....? Love the yellowing on this guitar - very cool. Cheers!

I have several guitars with Kahlers and Floyds and both work fine. Now i don't play with the wiggle stick in my hand and dive bomb every other note either. Use them sparingly. Not sure when used alot. Nice guitar, will stop by and give it a try.👍

I had a japan model 2, 1987, with a Floyd. Reverse headstock, Champagne paint. Got it brand new for 360.00.

A friend of mine got one of these back in junior high in like 1987. I loved it. I thought it was a much better ax than my Kramer Baretta. I thought the stock pup was better than the JB on my Kramer and the guitar stayed in tune a lot better as well. He had the bridge flush, so no pullups. But the neck was awesome. I almost offered to trade my Kramer for it. Charvels were much higher quality than Kramers. I also think the more standard Kahlers that came on some of those 1986 models were just fine. If you took the time to set up a Kahler they were great. The reason Floyd won the arms race over Kahler had to do with two things: Floyd had most of the big-name players, led by Eddie, and there was a Floyd Rose culture, by which I mean a large community of players and techs who knew how to set up and maintain a Floyd. Because the Kahler was nowhere near as popular they didn't have that community with a strong knowledge of the product. Now, regarding the Charvel neckplates, yeah, they were thick, but the same goes for the Kramer neckplates. I was involved in the L.A. metal scene and started playing gigs when I was fourteen, mostly restaurants and very obscure clubs. The biggest club I ever played was The Roxy around 1990. I was in more bands than I can remember. I had a following. It was a lot of fun. And axes like this Charvel Model 2 and my Kramer Baretta were very representative of the standard shred stick super strat. You didn't have time to play a neck pup or fiddle with a tone knob. Eddie set up this new aesthetic and the world of guitar dived right into it. A typical rig you'd see at Gazzari's or Coconut Teaszer on any night was a shred stick like the Charvel M2 or Kramer Baretta, a Marshall JCM, and a pedal or two on the floor. That's what I used, except I had a JMP and eventually switched to a plethora of very loud combos like a Boogie or Randall, Laney, Peavey, etc. Whatever I had access to or was in the mood to use. I borrowed my drummer's Gallien Krueger 250 ML and mic'd it up for a gig one day when we couldn't fit my Marshall in the truck. It worked great. Good times!

I have a 87 Guild super strat with 2 humbuckers with a Kahler, it's a proto type, looks like a Aviator with set neck, have had it for 30 years and have no problem with the Kahler, it's good enough for Kerry King it's good for me. I also have a 85 Aria Pro ll Night Warrior with a Floyd Rose and I don't think one is better then the other, in fact I find it easier to set up the Kahler then the Floyd. That's a nice Charvel looks like it's in good shape. I don't have any guitars that have one pup, I am going to start looking for one. I think there is something to say about the tone on a one pup guitar, we all no that EVH kept it simple with one pup and just a volume knob. An other one of my favorite guitar players used to use a single pup LP Jr, and his tone was insane. You have some nice inventory at your store, wish I could go in person but I'm am here in N.Y.

This is almost the same model as mine but it has a pickup with the charvel logo at the bottom of the neck, there is a second nob and there is a switch with 3 options

I know this channel features a lot of B C Rich guitars so - Back in the mid to late 80's I had a B C Rich Bich Platinum series. The finish was called Ultra Violet. It had this same terrible Kahler bridge. I twas however nicer than some of the bridge choices that B C Rich made afterwards. I guess at the time it may have been considered better than your standard strat bridge but that seems to be due to the popularity of the Floyd Rose ? Like we all know now, most of the floating designs back then were terrible and we now stick with the real Floyd, Ibanez Edge or perhaps the gotoh 1996.
