Tommy was trained by a kick ass Jazz teacher Ray Fransen, dude can play any style trust me. I am from Nola & have jammed with him back in the 80’s, sweetest fucking dude around.
Tommy Buckley worked with my son in Louisiana at a place that builds boats for the government called metal shark, ironic that’s a pretty killer name. He was very good to my son and he talked to me on the phone several times it’s amazing to hear someone tell crazy stories about Louisiana metal. Tommy can tell you stories for days and he’s a fucking amazing drummer. Check out Soilent Green. That’s just over the top swamp blues death metal
When you're the drummer for Crowbar you can tilt your snare at any angle you friggin' feel like!!! I've been drumming since I was 8....now 51. I played w/ my snare tilted FORWARD, like a jazz drummer for decades. About a year back I experimented w/ tilting the opposite direction.....though not as extreme as TB. It's a good feeling to play hard and never have to worry about unwanted rimshots.
i know, right? judging by that redicukous angle i would say, yes! i’m not saying this to mock him but considering he literally wears Bonzo and pantera on his sleeve, it makes no sense. maybe he can’t handle the shock from the rim?
Craig Nunenmacher played on Lifesblood. I think of all the great Crowbar drummers Jimmy Bower has the best feel for timing. I remember seeing shows around 1998 with Bower and just couldn't beleive how the whole band could bend and stretch time and at the same time be super tight with amazing feel.
I’ve known Tommy for decades, he’s always played like that. It is a little weird! It didn’t stop him in Soilent Green or now, so I guess it’s okay! Haha
@Eternal Rambler uh yea thats exactly where those shoes were purchased.next time you go to walmart if thats not below you check out the cheap shoes that are on hangars and you will see for yourself.if you like them i think they are 12dollars
@@percussionpunisher8694 im guessing the drummer likes them because they have very little traction and he probly uses that slide technique for doublebass
Ozark Mountains true. But also the shoes are less than $11.00. He could’ve bought the very basic Nikes, Adidas or Converse for $50 and it’s borderline the same shoe. Legit.
In the 70’s lots of drummers had this Tom and snare positioning but they would sit the throne lower. It was to get away from the typical style of the 60’s when you sat high up and had the drums low so the audience could see you. Nicko from Maiden is a good example 🤘
@Robin Vonkorff Yeah, hate to break it to you but if "pure power" is what the aim is for you literally can't get more "power" in a snare hit than a rim shot. Dude just prefers to have it at that angle. Preference over practicality is all that is. Nothing more, nothing less. If anything it's to save some money on replacing sticks.
Everyone is commenting the snare/tom angle here, but I never ever saw someone commenting Nicko McBrain's posture... which is even more brutal than this. Kind of double standart in a way :D

I love him in both Soilent Green and Crowbar. He's truly one of the most underrated drummers ever in metal.
Craig is my favorite my hero but this dude is unreal and I love the power he brings to this song.
We love Tommy. Always so much fun to work with Crowbar. 🤘🏾
What an incredible vocalist and drummer. All around solid band 🔥🔥
What a great feel he has….just outstanding!
Perfect use of double kicks. amazingly well played in all senses, a true great and so underrated.

That added double base part is gold.
His drumming in Soilent Green is next level; you’d never know from the simplicity in Crowbar
Agreed!
sewn mouth secrets top 10 songs of all time
C. Nunenmacher set the bar high on these jams, Tommy B. doin him proud!!!

Best drumming I've ever seen!
That snare drum angle is definitely very inclined ! Hey if it works for him ... rock on !
It's easier for faster music, but be prepared to replace your skins more often.
I guess he hates rim shots?
Playing rimshots on this setup equal smashing own balls
He likes sticks
I do to but still have my snare 100%flat
@@alexposch2872 who are you to judge someone else's comfort zone?? He's obviously signed, are you???

Those kicks are seismic
Oh hey didn’t see you there XD
@@stephenlowrie4490 Drumming can be highly addictive. And rewarding.
His snare sound is incredible
Tommys a killer drummer. He's got that new orleans groove. The lifesblood record is full of it. Badass stuff

Kings of sludge and the dreaded beard of doom 🤘
Fuckin' A!
1:33 that transition into the half time section makes me wanna throw my tv through a window
Tommy is a Man!👊
I feel uncomfortable by just watching that snare
Alonso V. I was just thinking the same thing! 🤣
I know right! The tom isn't much better.
I’ve known Tommy for decades, he’s always played like that. It is a little weird! It didn’t stop him in Soilent Green or now, so I guess it’s okay! Haha
jeffdmusic I never knew he was in Soilent. There you go.
I was going to post something similar.. you got it done
I have been playing for years and I keep my snare high and tight and at that exact angle. The action is just so much easier.
Just looks awkward and lazy
@Robin Vonkorff probably so, that guys a good drummer...oh well was I suppose to be mad or something?
Tommy rules
This guy was the drummer for soilent green. Awesome.
Dude is also wearing Walmart brand shoes. Dope.
i noticed that too.i also had a pair myself last summer.my moms dumbass dogs chewed them up along with my walmart flipflops.fuck i hate my moms dogs
@Eternal Rambler uh yea thats exactly where those shoes were purchased.next time you go to walmart if thats not below you check out the cheap shoes that are on hangars and you will see for yourself.if you like them i think they are 12dollars
Ozark Mountains I own a pair exactly the same type, I’m aware and have no shame. Comfy af and get the job done, apparently! 🤘🏽

That snare/tom angle, wtf lol. Did he drive his Iroc Z to this gig too?
Holy shit dude!! 🤟🤣🤣🤣

Bad ass druming\,,/
Heaviest band on earth
Brennan Man hell no?
Mr. 666 hell yes
@Kevin Bergquist It's a joke on their weight. But it doesn't apply anymore because Kirk is the only fat guy at this point. Lol
@Kevin Bergquist yeah, it was three fat dudes and a skinny, 17 year old Craig Nunemacher when they first started.
Even heavier when Todd "Sexy T" Strange was in the band . . .
That snare sounds nice and full. Beefy.
"I say we're crowbar from New Orleans....... and we're gonna kick your ass" .
Two things the camera is a little jarring (to be honest) and that's the craziest angle I've ever seen on a snare, haha.
Check the Canadian band Revenge . And snare angle James
@@drummersfromhell666 Will do thanks for the post. Keep up the solid work.
You change your name? Lol
@@BurnTheNuance No problem. And thanks for the support.
look up Damon Che from Don Caballero. he set his snare drum tilted like Tommy but sets his rack toms nearly flat.
*Certified Hard Hitter*
I call that snare angle the trying to get out of bed
Edit: I guess I’ll call the toms the visit to the chiropractor
imagine playing traditional grip on that kit. looks like the drum heads get changed every gig, I bet that snare head "wells" after three songs.
KILLER......
Is there something on his left knee?

This dude is bad as hell! Damn!
I’ve tried to play my snare at that angle , it doesn’t work for me
so solid

WHY NO RIM SHOT?! And seriously: great sound, style, drumming, music and band!!
Fico sem cérebro quando escuto esse som!!!!
Yeah!!!🤘😝🤘
regal tip quantum 3000.. aka the lollipops.
Hahahahahahaha
Thought they looked gigantic; of course he'd use marching sticks!
The kick beaters…are those Trick Detonators?
Its the oryginal Czarcie Kopyto beaters
I wouldn’t have knees if I had the snare angled like that
Rimshotless
Who cares about the angle. He hits hard and plays tight as fuck.
2:22 ⚡⚡⚡
That snare angle might be to avoid smashing fingers on the rim maybe 🤷♂️
CFH tatoo ❤️
Wow that snare angle
👏👏👏👏👏
Nice
Seems like someone really likes Nicko Mc'Brian
I angle my snare and mounted tom the exact same way
Tommy rocks, but Nunemacher is the shit!
He has a strange foot technique...plays off the side of the pedal board
zmeczylem sie samym ogladaniem.. jprdl
this guy must be part crab or something
cool, but i guess he doesn't play rim shots? lol
with all due respect .. Nunenmacher made it .. Here: ua-cam.com/video/BvqTmw1qVec/v-deo.html
Buckley made it .. Here: ua-cam.com/video/f2YajzoKqng/v-deo.html
The guy in the green jersey doesn't seem amused....

Not even in the same league as Craig Nunenmacher!
Who has the nerve to tattoo John Bonhams very own symbol on him?, whilst they couldn't come CLOSE to capturing that kind of style.
Because he wanted I Guess
Because he's a fan? What's wrong with that?
that tom and snare angle says two things.. 1- fuck rimshots 2- my single stroke rolls are straight garbage.
