I'm in my 60's and was just about to type about the same comment then saw yours . . It's been kinda of blowing my mind that I'm so ready to step out in style!!
No shackets for me, they’re too boxy, shapeless and mannish. I love wearing my blazers, moto jackets or short leather coat instead. I haven’t worn my trench coats very much in the last 20 years, probably because they’ve been years of extreme drought here in California. I only wish we had more rainy days to enjoy, or even just some. We have to catch and reuse every drop of water, like that from rinsing dishes, and many people are installing gray-water systems. At least, I did learn that I was washing my clothes much too frequently, everyone takes daily showers (3 minutes!), so unless spotted or grimy, they can be worn several times. Last year we did get almost two feet of rain, but unfortunately it all fell in one day!
Oh no! Didn’t realise how dry it was in California. Few years ago Cape Town was the same. We did the best we could as well and eventually the rains came.
I find larger/almost asymmetric jackets to be really unflattering on me as I have shorter legs and a longer torso. Also, I find having a chest that too much fabric on top really shortens my legs.
@@Boringpotsnpans 😉Excellent point for us long torso/short leg gals. ⏳️As an hourglass, the last thing I want to do is to make my legs seem shorter or stumpy 🪵. 🤔Although I think we can get away w/a longer line shacket, blazer, cardi, topper, etc. either one of two ways. When our (1) Bottom (i.e., skirt, short, skort) is slightly ⬆️shorter⬆️ in length 〰️esp. when also wearing matching tights & shoes/boots in cooler weather; (2) Base Layer (incl. belt, socks/hosiery, shoes) is a continuous column of color to elongate our whole entire frame. 🤗 Do understand that a traditional shacket is longer & thicker weight than a typical shirt, but I still improvise living in a hotter 🥵 climate. Will 🔍look🔎 for elevated lightweight dress shirts of shorter hem lengths (esp. w/interesting detailing, structure, fabric, pattern, texture, etc.) that I can wear as a topper or layering piece over a fitted camisole tank. 😘This solves my dilemma as well as adding interest. 🤣Otherwise in Los Angeles, I can only wear a blazer 🏬 indoors 🏥 w/frosty central air or 🌱outdoors🌿 once the mercury🌡finally drops. Since we rarely require a truly heavy ❄️Winter coat, always on the 👀look out for the absolute lightest weight trench coats 〰️❤️ classic or cropped length. Being larger breasted, I prefer a wrap style trench (vs traditional double breast). This coat can also be belted in back to reduce some of that volume) in warmer 🌞 weather. Found that the trench coats value goes far beyond the rain🌧. If it gets super 🥶 chilly outside, I can always wear a chunky knit, wool, or extra layer underneath a blazer or trench. 🛍Shop silky thin undershirts & long underwear from sporting goods or camping outlets. They add warmth w/o any extra bulk. 💚Bridget from Cali☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)

I bought a pair of Chelsea boots in that exact style and color last spring, but it got warm real fast and I haven’t worn them much, but I be stylin! I’m 72! Great video.
Ohhhh no I love it!! It’s like you’re drilling into us that it’s OKAY to own a piece for years and years and not want to throw it out just because it’s not considered “on trend”
Knit dresses are my absolute favorite thing to wear! The comfort is great, and I only need add boots and a blazer to make a great autumn or winter outfit. Often I add a silk scarf or nice belt to change up the looks.
Team Shacket! I love them but I’m in Vancouver and it’s a perfect layering piece in our fall/winter/spring weather. We are rainy more than cold, and a snuggly flannel shacket goes perfectly for our weather and lifestyle.
Okay okay I’ve pulled out my suede shacket from the shadows of my closet, it still has a label on it 😂 I’m going to style it for my mom for today. I think it’s right up her ally 👖 🧥
😖Yes, it can be tricky to get it right, esp. if you're not familiar with sewing &/or pattern making. ✂️You're not supposed to cut the leg straight ↔️ across from one seam to the other. It should be angled 10-15° upwards (or higher) at the pants' inseam ↖️. It may seem counterintuitive, but the slight slant helps you get a straight hem. 😉Would encourage you to use a pair of shorts that are the length you like. I made a rich yellow corduroy shacket last fall and wore it well into Spring. It just went with everything, can't wait to pull that back out. Yesterday it was 97 degrees here and today it is 56. I have not pulled out my Fall clothes yet so need to be doing that now. Here in Colorado we can have very short Fall and Spring days with cool weather. I am sure by next month I will be freezing and need the heavier jackets. I could do ballet flats again and wish I had not gotten rid of mine, I had quite the little collection a decade ago when they were last everywhere. I do remember they were quite comfortable. The chunky soles have always been a hard no for me, being tall and wearing a ladies 11 shoe I do not need to wear those. I do have a chunky pair of heavy duty snow boots for the snow and also wear my hiking boots in the cold winter here. Those are always in style here in Colorado. Thanks for another informative video. I do have a number of items you mentioned that I will be pulling out and style up.

Shackets are so cute, but not on my body. I have purchased a few cropped plaid/ Shackets for the fall. These are much better on my body. They show the definition of my waist and not too overwhelming.
Shackets make me look twice my size so they will always be a massive "no" from me. Just picked up some secondhand pink and red cowboy boots which are phenomenal. Going to be rocking those with spring dresses, skirts, jeans - everything really.
While fitted or cropped jacket styles work best for my petite hourglass shape, I captured a shacket in two of my best colours (aqua and burnt orange) this past winter. Still felt a bit "industrial" wearing it until I saw the tip about belting it. Wow! A little aqua belt sure delivered a great low contrast shape. Worn with a narrow jean and bootie, I felt more elevated in every way. 😉 Thanks Leonie. Heading in to a beautiful spring here, so it may not get too many outings however I love that we have seasons and get to experiment with pieces I already have.
I live in the western US and absolutely *hate* cowboy boots! Also a hard no on shackets. I have two classic trenches that I love, but never wear. They just feel out of place here, especially since it rarely rains. Happy to see wider, longer pants though! Ballet flats? Yes!
Trench coat and cargoes already in the closet. Same for shirts. Shackets don't do it for me, sorry. Think I've got some ballet flats somewhere but on the fence about cowboy boots. Knit dresses are an autumn/winter lifesaver!
I like shackets but not the flannels or plaids, which I find too masculine for me. I have a soft knit one from Banana Republic last year (more of a sweater shacket), and I have my eye on a wool blend shacket for the upcoming fall season. Looking forward to fall here in California, where we’ve been experiencing a dreadful heatwave 🥵
Yes, shackets are timeless. I wore them in the mid 1990s, and again in 2010s. Although, now they tend to be fabrics blends, whereas in the past the shackets tended to be 100% wool. The boiled wool shackets of the past seemed impermeable when it came to winter's wind.
Jeans Arn’t warm enough for winter? I live in Minnesota (USA) and it can get to -25+ in winter. Not only do I wear jeans in this temp, I run outside in this temp. 😀it’s the best Jean, UGG, running weather. Love your vlogs!
You inspired me to get my first Shacket about a year and a half ago so glad I did bought a good Quality one from H&M also featured in your video thank goodness sold out a Shacket is lightweight but warm
Great one 👍🏼 just invested in an urban revivo jacket and some new knits.. although uk is still unusually warm still so not pulled out the winter items yet! Just need that denim shirt now 😀
Great video! Can you share where you got your half black half white sneakers? (You are wearing them when you are modeling a full length trench - circa 1:47 in the video). Thanks!
This is my second pair of these sneakers because I love them so much. .They are actually New Balance 327 and they are mens because the women's didn't have the black and white. i've just had a look online and I'm not sure if the black and white is still available but you can take a look here: rstyle.me/+BVHIUb_mNz2w9mrhAbXSOw
🥵After well over a week of triple digits☀️ & miserably high sweltering humidity, we're finally experiencing a cool down. It's a blessed 85° with very scattered showers & thunder storms⛈️. Thankfully, back to our normal humidity levels. 🙏Hopefully, these lower temps will stick around for the rest of the season. 👩💻Finally feel sufficiently comfy enough to just look at 🍁Fall Fashion Trends. 🎉As usual, your video did NOT disappoint🎉! 💯% here for some MORE trench coats (classic or cropped length), elevated shackets (like the ones you featured here), & also cargo pants👍! 🩰Ballet flats would work for when I'm going to walk/stand for low duration. 😊Otherwise, do prefer a chunkier sole for comfort. Will keep my 👁👁 eyes peeled for some light or nude cowboy boots too〰️preferably ankle height. 🤣Sadly, no shoe shopping until my broken leg & sprained ankle heal. 😉Almost everything else I can 🛍 shop my closet for〰️EXCEPT I'll give a wide berth to Statement Shirts. 😖Feel absolutely foolish in big pouf sleeves, fussy yokes, & any overly excessive detailing. 💚Bridget from Cali☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)
I actually just bought a shacket. It isn’t cool enough to wear it where I live. But I’m looking forward to wearing it. I’m thinking about buying another one. We have fairly mild winters. So another one make sense to me. The one I just got is plaid, so now I need a solid color one. I can’t believe corduroy is back in style. I don’t think I would wear them where I live. I used to live in the north and I had them there. And they kept me warm. I’m not sure if I want some cargo pants. But I may try them. My usual in the winter is sweatpants and jeans. If it does get cold, I’d rather just stay home. I’m retired and live a very casual life. I don’t dress up anymore. There’s really nowhere for me to go.
I like the collar knit sweater with a half zipper also, Leonie. I just ordered two long sleeve tees with cooler weather coming. (hopefully). I like all the cool outfit examples so many I relate to.
I suppose I must be on top of things... I have all of these already. 👏😊 Yesterday, I snagged a (lime green) Kathmandu fleecy hoodie, from my local op shop for $2!! I'm probs not doing the shacket...

@@Thestyleinsider. Thank you for your reply ♥️ I’m headed on a trip in November, and want to just wear black, white and grey for easy mix and match outfits when packing. Love your vids!
I just discovered your channel! Such helpful hints and I love that I can shop my closet since I have all these fall essentials already (except the light colored chelsea boots which I am thinking about!)
Leonie, I love the t-shirt you're wearing. I'm not a shacket girl at all but cargo pants are a favorite for me. I only have one pair in camouflage and I found them in a thrift store. It's important to get that perfect fit. 😊
Thanks Linda! I’ve had my eye in this for a long time and recently treated myself. It’s by Anine Bing so it was def a purchase I had to consider for a while 😳
I love some of these ideas, but I would be careful with wide leg pants that are sloppy around the ankle and shoe. I certainly can't handle too much fabric -maybe easier if you're taller? Also, I just thought...Fall means it's time to get out my iron!! 😝
I love shackets! I am not into the oversized look though, so I either size down or buy more fitted/structured shackets. They are basically just and extra thick flannel. They are super functional for me, because I am cold all the time. I layered them under my coat in the winter. Love any outwear that is acceptable inside and outside!
Last year (or 2 yrs ago?) I wanted a shacket so badly!! However, I could never find an affordable one that was also of good quality. The H&M one looks nice in photos, but I'd really have to see it person to decide. H&M is very hit-or-miss in terms of quality...hey, is that what their name stands for?? LOL At the same time, it does seem trendy. But I am tall and a shacket would look great on me. I did buy a vintage Pendleton jacket to wear this fall. Maybe I'll have to be satisfied with that.
Grey jumper sold out, dang it 😐 Let me know if anyone finds it, guys... Me again...(obviously) 😁 I found a really cool, 1/2- zip knit on the Mango site... I'm going back there now... (there's this rust silk knit skirt 😉)...
@@Thestyleinsider. All good, Leonie ..check my edit... I'm in knit heaven. Mango's prices are really good... Heaps of cool stuff... Did you check out Tamara Kalinic?
Hey girl, hard NO for those shirt jacket things, just not my vibe. Been wearing cargos forever, love them. Corduroys never been my vibe, oh wait i did wear them in high school for a minute. I’m sixty , so pretty much figure I’ve been through these styles a ton over. If you live in Florida, light knits are almost the only thing you could wear. Long sleeve t shirts are great for all occasions . Never ever owned a denim jacket, shirt or dress. May think of the dress to use as a open duster???? Ballet flats are a gem on Audrey Hepburn, lol. I worn cowboy boots forever as well, the Chelsea’s boot is always fun! Xoxo
I’m sorry, but shackets make me think of the leisure suits of the 70’s for men ( yes, I’m older. 🙄). MAYBE one in a nice plaid that resembles a flannel shirt.
I love, love, love shackets and I love the oversized trend. I feel the cold and they make it easier to layer. It's much harder to get something warm and chunky under something shorter and more fitted like a biker jacket. Although now I have discovered sweater vests and I love them. Great for layering as you can wear them under a blazer or jacket without a lot of bulk on your arms and shoulders. I hate ballet flats I'm afraid. They're just a bit too prim and prissy for me. I'm 55 so if I wore them I'd feel about 85! I think you can get away with them if you're younger. For me I love the more chunky styles, I feel much more modern in them. Also I'm quite tall 5foot9 and a size 42.5 shoe so the more chunky styles balance me out. Those dainty styles would just look silly on me!
Hi Leonie! I am very tiny (157cm 42kg), I love how shackets look on others, but I can't seem to find one that doesn't swallow me. The other time I wored one and my live-in landlord said I looked like a kid in my parent's PJs 😭😭
One of my granddaughters is even smaller than you but very chic. She finds good shirts and sweaters shopping in the boys' departments of good quality shops.
Yes to denim, long sleeve tees, cozy knits, dresses,
Trench coat is timeless. Team no shacket because it's a trendy piece and doesn't work with most body type.

Trench coat and cargoes already in the closet. Same for shirts. Shackets don't do it for me, sorry. Think I've got some ballet flats somewhere but on the fence about cowboy boots. Knit dresses are an autumn/winter lifesaver!
I loved shacket . I got from Aritzia and 100 percent wool.
You’re so knowledgeable! It’s the little details and suggestions - and you bring it out of each (piece) presentation! 💕 This one was fun!!
Thank you - that’s very kind of you to say 😘
Kimberly you must live near me. I hear ya!
Team Shacket!
Love these! And I love your T-shirt! I am here for all of these!
Coming from the “Cowboy State,” cowboy boots are always in! 😂
Perfect 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I'll still be wearing my skinny jeans or just straight wide ish jeans or cargo pants. I'm apple shaped with slim hips so wide trousers drown me
Yes I’d say skinnys and slimmer fits would be a great option for you!
Jeans Arn’t warm enough for winter? I live in Minnesota (USA) and it can get to -25+ in winter. Not only do I wear jeans in this temp, I run outside in this temp. 😀it’s the best Jean, UGG, running weather. Love your vlogs!
So interesting as usual! I am thrilled. I have most pieces in my closet. Love Shackets, cowboy boots, trenches and white tanks. Thanks❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Wonderful!
TOTALLY AWSOME VIDEO AND EDUCATION!!!! THANKS FOR SHARING AND I LEARNED SO MUCH!!!!

Yesterday, I snagged a (lime green) Kathmandu fleecy hoodie, from my local op shop for $2!!
I'm probs not doing the shacket...
I love shackets. They let me channel my inner lumberjack.🪚🪵
Totally 💯
I love shackets!
I love to watch your beautiful video 💕
Thank you so much 🤗
May I ask what is the lipstick you are waring ?. I have been looking for a orangy warm color for myself and I really like what I see here. Thanks
Yes sure it's my absolute fave and seems to suit everyone. It's the Mellow Cosmetics lip paint in the shade Barcelona. You can find it here: rstyle.me/+qtG8FPn4K4TWNjI6MntMgQ
Question 🙋🏻♀️
Would a Black Trench to the knee work?
Yes definitely! I was in H&M yesterday and saw some fab knee-length black trenches!
@@Thestyleinsider. Thank you for your reply ♥️
I’m headed on a trip in November, and want to just wear black, white and grey for easy mix and match outfits when packing.
Love your vids!
Great review! Thanks a lot 💜
Love the shirts you’re wearing where are they from?
Great video and I LOVE your t shirt you're wearing! Who is it by? Thanks!👍
It’s by Anine Bing so it was def a purchase I had to consider for a while 😳
Another creator I follow has lots of Bing tees as well. I love this one!
Fantastic thank you really enjoyed that
I love some of these ideas, but I would be careful with wide leg pants that are sloppy around the ankle and shoe.
Very nice picks. Thank you 😊
Thanks for watching!
Great one, Leonie! 👍
I like all of these items 😊
Love shacketts
Last year (or 2 yrs ago?) I wanted a shacket so badly!! However, I could never find an affordable one that was also of good quality. The H&M one looks nice in photos, but I'd really have to see it person to decide. H&M is very hit-or-miss in terms of quality...hey, is that what their name stands for?? LOL
At the same time, it does seem trendy. But I am tall and a shacket would look great on me. I did buy a vintage Pendleton jacket to wear this fall. Maybe I'll have to be satisfied with that.
I love shackets
Grey jumper sold out, dang it 😐 Let me know if anyone finds it, guys...
Me again...(obviously) 😁 I found a really cool, 1/2- zip knit on the Mango site... I'm going back there now... (there's this rust silk knit skirt 😉)...
Oh noooooo sorry to hear that 🤦🏻♀️
@@Thestyleinsider. All good, Leonie ..check my edit... I'm in knit heaven. Mango's prices are really good... Heaps of cool stuff...
Did you check out Tamara Kalinic?
Fabulous tshirt
Super enjoyed this video, thanks!
I love shackets but can’t get on board with western boots.
LOVE your videos! Do you really think a shacket is "timeless?"
Timeless is probs the wrong word to be honest but I do believe they are something you can wear for years 👍🏼
@@Thestyleinsider. Thank you for responding. Based on your advice, I will give it a try. 🙂
Hi Leoni. Can I not buy the H&M Shacket online from New Zealand? Love the video!
Yes you should be able to but you may need to use NZ post for an international address.
@@Thestyleinsider. thanks Leoni but I’m not sure how you go about that? Any clues?
Love you and BB Tshirt.
I love shakets
Maybe go for wide jeans and the long sleeved shirts and the knitted sweaters with a zip
One of my granddaughters is even smaller than you but very chic. She finds good shirts and sweaters shopping in the boys' departments of good quality shops.
