The big bad in this movie is called a spinosaurus, and it is technically to this day the largest carnivorous dinosaur to ever live. They are also thought to be mostly pescatarian, meaning a well fed one probably wouldn’t have even attempted to go for humans. They lived in what is now northern Africa, and probably fed on species of giant sawfish and coelacanths, although they were probably capable of taking down a full grown herbivore if they were hungry enough. Spinosaurus is infamous for having at least one new thing discovered about it every year, so who knows what else about our information on this creature will change.
Fun fact: the bird cage with the Pteranodons was originally in the first Jurassic Park novel, but they didn't have the time or budget to include it in the first film. Side note: while pterosaurs were physically incapable of picking up prey with their feet(which were eerily similar to human feet), Pteranodon and the giant Quetzalcoatlus(which was as tall as a giraffe when standing on the ground)could easily impale you with their sharp beaks.
The original script was going to involve teenagers crashing on the island, Isla Sorna, while their parents were on another plane, going to the Galapagos Islands. The teens then encounter a strange hermit, who turns out to be none other than Alan Grant, having snuck onto the island to study the dinosaurs in their natural habitat. Joe Johnston, the director, threw away the script and called it "a bad episode of Friends and that none of the characters are interesting." Jurassic Park 3 is basically a mashup of all the scenes from the first and second book which didn't make it into the first two movies. The aviary and t-rex/spino in the river are almost exactty from the first, the whole boy hiding in the wrackage and egg stealing is kind of from the second.
Spinosaurus. From what I heard, there was a deleted scene where Cooper was attacked and injured by a baby Spinosaurus-which he killed... and that was why the big Spinosaurus was so relentless at chasing the humans, because it associated them with the death of it's baby
The Spinosaurus has gone through many, MANY, iterations ever since its discovery, consisting of the lower jaw and parts of the spine that made up the sail(hence the name), but that specimen was sadly destroyed during the Berlin bombing in WW2. So, the design they went for in the film was based on speculation at the time, using other closely related species for reference. However, we do know now that was drastically different that previously thought. It turns out it had a rooster-like crest on its head, the neck was slightly longer and pelican-like, the sail had a sort of soft M-shape to it, and the tail was flat and paddle-like, in addition to slightly smaller hind legs. It still holds the record of the largest theropod(bipedal carnivore) dinosaur, though Tyrannosaurus would easily snap its neck with their bone-crushing jaws. While Spinosaurus was primarily a semi-aquatic fish-eater, it did occasionally snack on passing pterosaurs and baby dinosaurs.
@@myspiderungoliantExcept a Giraffe is quite a poor comparison because it's not like Spino itself was THAT skinny by comparison when technically, weights fluctuate on Spinosaurus from as low as 6 all the way to 10 tons according to different paleontologists. Not just the talking raptor, but the short battle with the T-Rex and the Spinosaurus. Aside from that, this was definitely the most underrated movie in the OG trilogy indeed and one of my favorites.

Everything about Lost World is great right up until San Diego, at least IMO. This one definitely had the potential to be great, but they rushed it. The pacing is off and just wanting to skip to beat after beat instead of taking its time. That's part of the reason the first one is so excellent, a literal hour passes without anything big happening, but it doesn't feel like it, it takes its time and sets things up. This one tries to just be nonstop action and skip over a lot of what extra world building they could have added.
Same here this was my first Jurassic Park film I saw in theaters and even if this wasn’t everyone’s favorite film in the Jurassic Park franchise it did help most of us who were born in the mid-late 1990’s to watch the other films in the franchise before Jurassic World came out 14 years later.
Definitely the minority. This was basically the “Batman and Robin” of the franchise, as it essentially killed the franchise for nearly 15 years, and even then, the franchise never truly recovered. TLW also had some of the best VFX of the franchise. This movie is the first of the franchise where the VFX took a serious step down, and it kept getting worse, even with better technology.
Just wanted to say, I believe you should do the Jurassic world trilogy. I still think they’re worth watching. I love all the movies in the franchise and love this franchise more than any other. I’m aware of the issues with Fallen Kingdom and Dominion. I also have my own issues, but I think the overall theme of the JW movies were pretty well executed and how it was continued through out the trilogy. Also they’re just really fun to watch.

The third one has a special?? place in my heart. I don't know if I'd call it my favorite, but it was the first one I saw in theaters. And on top of that I have a very clear memory of it being on tv late one night and me watching it while on the phone with my now partner, and I just spent the whole movie yelling at the mom for how stupid she was throughout. And that memory is still with me to this day. Also yes yes yes to the jurassic world movies. They're maybe not as *good* as the og trilogy (though idk I love them personally) but they're a fun time!
The Spinosaurus is honestly the main reason why this film became so divisive among fans of the franchise. They decided to make Spinosaurus the main villain because at the time, it was a very poorly known Dinosaur (the only major specimen that had ever been found of it was accidentally destroyed by a World War II Allied bombing raid). Unfortunately, its portrayal in this film created a huge amount of backlash, especially in the scene where it killed a T-Rex so easily. More research on Spinosaurus since the film came out has shown just how inaccurate the film's portrayal of it was. The TRUE Spinosaurus was a Dinosaur that spent most of its life in the water and primarily hunted fish (it also would have been DEAD after that first bite from T-Rex). The real Spinosaurus has turned out to be so different than what Jurassic Park 3 portrayed it as that the filmmakers have actually had to go back into the lore and completely retcon the Spino's story to make it a Dinosaur whose genetic code was HEAVILY edited and experimented on by InGen. As a result of all this experimentation, and even honestly some torture as well, the InGen Spinosaurus REALLY hated humans, which is where this "murderous intent" that you see in the film comes from.
No it’s not. And the word divisive is a bit heavy handed; this didn’t cause a TLJ schism. The fact is this movie just doesn’t have any of the semi sense of the other two. And the effects were becoming yawn inducing at this point in film. The main reason this movie is looked down on is because it’s subpar story telling. Period.

The big dinosaur with a spine is literally called a spinosaurus, they could swim in water as you saw in the one scene, but they mostly preyed on fish and water creatures.
The dinosaur with the back fin is a Spinosaurus. Not much is known about this type of dinosaur because the first skeleton found was destroyed during WWII by the Allied bombing of Munich.
Fun fact: Spinosaurus is actually one of the largest carnivores that lived on the planet. It’s bigger than Trex and giganotosaurus. But unlike both predators, it mainly eats fish, partly because it’s like a crocodile and it lived in Northern Egypt.
Well we can’t confirm if it is the bigger than Rex or Giga. Yes it was big but even to this day, it remains a debate. Since the paleontology community measures BIG by WEIGHT, Rex wins slightly above Spino but there’s no true answer
Thank you! I used to call this movie the screaming lady Jurassic Park when I was younger, she’s such an annoying character. I do still love this movie, the raptors are great and the Spinasaurous is a great villain, also the Pterodactyls are terrifying. People give the Jurassic World movies loads of crap and I'll agree that they’re not amazing but they’re still super cool and definitely worth a watch. However, I'm dinosaur obsessed and just enjoy the hell out of The Jurassic series as a whole so I just have nothing but love for the movies. I like to switch off my brain and just enjoy the chaos and the cool dinosaurs. Especially all the raptor scenes, they just get better and better.
This is a late comment, but fun fact: the original 3 movies didn't use CGI for the dinosaurs. They were all just massive animatronics. Even in the fight with the spinosaurus and the t.rex.
Loving these reactions so much! 🤗 When you get to Jurassic World: Dominion, like Lord Of The Rings, be sure to watch the EXTENDED CUT, it’s SO MUCH better than the cinema version!
This one is defininetly my favorite part of the trilogy. Probably because it's the only one I had access to as a child It also introduced me to the "annoying AF character" trope with the blonde lady
First I wanna say I’m here for the Jurassic journey, glad she’s enjoying! Also she should do the band of brothers mini series 10 episodes long with an unofficial 11th episode which is the documentary it’s a heck of a journey.
Btw not sure if you noted it. Jurassic Park is on the island Isla Nublar. The Lost World and Jurassic Park 3 take place on the island Isla Sorna. Just a note in case you hadnt copped it.
Me and my siblings have this movie burned into our being so much that a few years ago, Jurassic Park III was on in a TV in another room in a restaurant we were eating at. And we heard the Kirby ringtone, and we all froze in horror because we were shook AF.
This one's not my favorite in the series but I still find it fun and entertaining. My favorites are the first Jurassic Park and the first Jurassic World, so I'd very much recommend continuing on!
Billy was actually supposed to die but during the test screenings damn near everybody wanted him to survive so they added him at the end being okay. But yes in the original idea for the movie Billy would have died.
Well actually it was the actor who didn't want his character to die. So that's why they made him live was because he actually got angry that the producers wrote in his death in the script
Random trivia here: they didn't give it a special name because it is not based technically on a book (though it pulls parts from both). The second one is the actual title to the sequel.
fun fact about the main antagonizing dinosaur, you probably know now that it's a spinosaurus, but in the movie there wasn't enough fossil evidence to make it accurately because the most completed fossil was destroyed in world war 2, ironically not by the germans cuz it was them who had it. in the jurassic park lore, the spinosaurus is considered the first hybrid dinosaur on screen
I love this movie but one thing I never understood was why they didn't have Sam and Ellie be married. They could've easily made it where Sam and Ellie were having financial troubles with the lack of funding for digs and home life. It would have also brought more of a empathetic resonance between the Kirby's and Dr. Grant because he would've understood why they did what they did while Billy would have been the one that showed less compassion. Making Billy's arc to save Eric all the more powerful.
Joe Johnston fun facts! He was one of the first members of the original pioneering ILM crew that created the special effects for the original Star Wars trilogy. He was the art designer for the Millennium Falcon, X-Wing Fighter Yoda, Boba Fett and many more. He was also the designer for the Iron Giant and Directed "Honey I Shrunk The Kids", "Jumanji", and "Capt. America: First Avenger"
I love this movie! You can't beat the original but 'The Lost World' goes in a darker direction and 'Jurassic Park III' is a leaner, meaner thriller but there isn't a bad movie in the series at all. They're all super entertaining! I hope you watch the Jurassic World movies! They're great, too! It's 'Jurassic World', 'Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom', and 'Jurassic World: Dominion'. If I may, when to get to 'Jurassic World: Dominion', please watch the extended edition. It's so much better than the theatrical cut and it's the director's preferred version. Thank you SO MUCH for reacting to these films, they're my comfort movies 😌
Angelina, before Jurassic Park was a thing, there was a sci fi show on Nbc called Earth 2 , about people living on a spacestation and they were going to go explore / colonize an alien planet somewhere because earth was too polluted, but something went wrong...
The actor who plays Eric was in another movie involving dinosaurs, he played an antagonist in a Barney the Dinosaur film. And add insult to injury they show a clip from Barney in this film.
So there is an interesting theory out there that the reason the Spinosaurus went after the humans relentlessly is because in the beginning when Cooper was scouting he came across a Spinosaur nest. The blood running down his arm is assumed that the infant attacked him because if it was the adult it would have lacerated and killed him. So he killed the juvenile and that’s what prompted the spinosaurus to go on a rampage and try to kill them. It honestly makes the most sense
The dinosaur that is relentless, spinosaurus aegyptiacus, is one dinosaur that doesn't stop being updated in terms of looks, so many new bones, so many new findings
The script of this one was completely rewritten just a few days before filming. The sets were built, the cast were hired, everything was ready for a completely different film, and they had to work everything they had into a new story.
What a coincidence that they put a Barney cameo in there because Erik is played by Trevor Morgan, who actually played Cody in Barney's Great Adventure.
Out of all the roars in the movies i have seen, the Spino's is the most haunting. Was utterly terrified of this movie as a kid, when i made the mistake of watching it.
You are so funny Angie and I love your enthusiasm for these films. Would be funny to see you watching Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous which I am watching with my 5-year old son :)
The new Dino with the sail would be called a Spinosaurus, the longes theropod ever discovered. This movie doesn’t portray it accurately, but their model is pretty cool. As for the Pteranodons (which is what they actually are) there is a whole story with them after they get off the island. Great video, I would love to see you do Jurassic World.
Spinosaurus (was said earlier in the film). The running theory is the spino got pissed at the group from running into it (the blood on the plane window was from the spino, not Cooper). Given that crows and tigers are documented to be able to hold grudges, the same can be assumed for the Spino.
Fun fact :in African myth there was a creature that live inside the river the local people describe it as crocodilian that walk with 2 legs and have big sail in the back (scientists speculate it was a Spinosaurus but the locals called it nguma monene) the last sightings is in kongo on 20th century and the habitats probably in the jungle of kongo and unexplored place , the mystery about nguma monene still unknown no one have ever saw it except for the inland tribes
Your face reaction to seeing Dr allen Grant back lol😂 I actually saw this movie in 2001 two days after debuted in the theater and my local theater the spinosaurus at the beginning shook the concrete on how loud his roar was compared to the T-Rex The fight scene was freaking awesome That's the only thing about this movie I like good durability test for your speakers lol❤ I'm very glad you enjoyed this movie everybody thinks the first time people watch this they think it's Spielberg as the director and it was someone different I give this movie props for having a different director for the storyline it was popular in the 2000s to have divorced parents kid gets trapped somewhere type of storyline parents got to go save them no matter the cost kind of idea parents get back together almost lol❤
I love the raptors in 3, in the first 2 movies they were treated like unrelenting horror monsters. In this they're treated more like intelligent animals still dangerous but they could have easily tore into everyone but they knew the risk of accidentally crushing their eggs. The vocalizations are dynamic and you see their personalities subtly Also the lore implications of the males being a pregenerators to blue with the stripes and colorization
Fun Fact the script in JP III wanted Billy to die but the fans didn't like so they wanted them to think he was dead but he was alive the whole time and the dino That attacked the plane is a Spinosaurus
Please watch the Jurassic World Series! They’re so good! The action and CGI are so good, those three movies have some of my favorite movie deaths of all time.
i remember as a kid my uncle actually gifted me some dinosaur toys and 2 of it actually where jurassic park 1 and 3 props (the trike in the childs hand at 3:30) and another from the first movie and i had no idea all that time... now i wish ive knew cause i cant find them anymore :( would like to know if they are worth something.
4:22 I love this line, because it makes it clear that, although the dinosaurs are similar to their real-life counterparts, they would never be 100% "pure", so to speak, so it excuses any scientific inaccuracies that they might present.
Which didn't really help because people still complained about it for years afterwards, and they doubled down on it in Jurassic World with Wu saying none of them were complete genome copies because they had to add other creature DNA, and would lokk very different if they had complete genomes. AND YET STILL people complain about these things....
Just so you know, at 10:18 in your video here, they explain what the sail-backed predatory dinosaur is (in case the viewer of the movie didn't already know). Spinosaurus.
I actually really like this one, idk what it is or if it’s just because the CGI and the animatronics look amazing but it’s still one of my favorites in this series. I remember watching this all time when I was younger when I was a huge Dino fan and still kind of am and remember telling my mom I wanted to be a paleontologist when I grew up 😂 IMO it’s one of the better ones even if it does feel rushed.
That Spinosaurus may be relentless, but its Kryptonite is the flimsy sheet metal door meant for humans. These people should just carry a flimsy sheet metal door around to defend against it.
I LOVE all the Jurassic movies- it's my all time favorite franchise, and unpopular or not- but Jurassic World (2015) is my favorite of them all. Without spoiling, it definitely ties into the rest of the movies and there are some great Easter eggs throughout the next trilogy.
20:07 Yes, the Ceratosaurus got spooked due to the smell. Not because it reeked, but because the poop was dropped by a larger carnivore(in this case the Spinosaurus), so it thought it would be best to find food elsewhere.
You should certainly do Jurassic World triology as well. The dinosaur with the sail on its back is a Spinosaurus. They wanted to have a dinosaur that could use its fore claws instead of just its mouth like the Tyrannosaurus Rex from the first two.

The dinosaur with the back fin is a Spinosaurus. Not much is known about this type of dinosaur because the first skeleton found was destroyed during WWII by the Allied bombing of Munich.
My new favorite channel!!! Your energy is amazing and I thoroughly enjoy your reactions start to finish.
You see when you’re making descriptions, use correct terms like ‘would’ve, could’ve, could, would, should, maybe.” Nothing is confirmed right away
Pound for Pound the T Rex is still heavier, and the bite force with the T Rex, has the most powerful bite, that any land creature known to man kind.
But why times were dry, it must have been driven to eat non-swimming prey (refer to Planet Dinosaur from 2011)
@@SpecklesTeeVwell really it should be height not wait the whole weight thing is kinda dumb
When you get to Jurassic World: Dominion, like Lord Of The Rings, be sure to watch the EXTENDED CUT, it’s SO MUCH better than the cinema version!
@ANGELINA 7 months later…but that was a genetically engineered spinosaurus🤣 love your reactions fookin funny haha
This one is defininetly my favorite part of the trilogy. Probably because it's the only one I had access to as a child
It also introduced me to the "annoying AF character" trope with the blonde lady
The spinosaurus is the biggest animatronic ever created
Okay, ever since I saw this in theaters as a kid the part where the raptor says "ALAN" in the dream sequence, has lived rent free in my head
I love how we get character development from the raptors throughout all 6 movies.
First I wanna say I’m here for the Jurassic journey, glad she’s enjoying! Also she should do the band of brothers mini series 10 episodes long with an unofficial 11th episode which is the documentary it’s a heck of a journey.
We watched this as kids so much because for a long time this was the last Jurassic Park movie, and we desperately wanted more.
I've been loving your JP reactions, please continue on with Jurassic World 🌎 this is definitely one of my favorite franchises ❤
Awesome reaction of my favorite Jurassic Park movie!!!!
Ange this is the best UA-camr movie reviews channel ever 😮
Random trivia here: they didn't give it a special name because it is not based technically on a book (though it pulls parts from both). The second one is the actual title to the sequel.
Yes. PLEASE watch the Jurassic World Movies. I LOVE that trilogy.
fun fact about the main antagonizing dinosaur, you probably know now that it's a spinosaurus, but in the movie there wasn't enough fossil evidence to make it accurately because the most completed fossil was destroyed in world war 2, ironically not by the germans cuz it was them who had it. in the jurassic park lore, the spinosaurus is considered the first hybrid dinosaur on screen
This girl would be soooo fun to go to the movies with! Her friends are so lucky to have her!:)
What a coincidence that they put a Barney cameo in there because Erik is played by Trevor Morgan, who actually played Cody in Barney's Great Adventure.
This is one of my favourites in the franchise. The fear of being hunted stayed with me even after leaving the theatre.
Yes jurassic world is definitely worth checking out
the spinosaurus was the dino that was the main villian which also attacked them on the boat and had the phone in its stomach
Yesss plsss Watch all of the three jurassic world movies
This is and forever will be the best Jurassic park movie.
Hi Ange! In the beginning of the video, the way you looked and said “and life found a waaay!” Had me rolling! 😂
Spinosaurus (was said earlier in the film). The running theory is the spino got pissed at the group from running into it (the blood on the plane window was from the spino, not Cooper). Given that crows and tigers are documented to be able to hold grudges, the same can be assumed for the Spino.
Fun fact :in African myth there was a creature that live inside the river the local people describe it as crocodilian that walk with 2 legs and have big sail in the back (scientists speculate it was a Spinosaurus but the locals called it nguma monene)
the last sightings is in kongo on 20th century and the habitats probably in the jungle of kongo and unexplored place , the mystery about nguma monene still unknown no one have ever saw it except for the inland tribes
This and its predecessors spawned videogame adaptations, most notably in arcades. Parts of this film were taken from the novels
I have first Jurassic Park movie I was watch it earlier
Your face reaction to seeing Dr allen Grant back lol😂
I actually saw this movie in 2001 two days after debuted in the theater and my local theater the spinosaurus at the beginning shook the concrete on how loud his roar was compared to the T-Rex The fight scene was freaking awesome That's the only thing about this movie I like good durability test for your speakers lol❤
I'm very glad you enjoyed this movie everybody thinks the first time people watch this they think it's Spielberg as the director and it was someone different I give this movie props for having a different director for the storyline it was popular in the 2000s to have divorced parents kid gets trapped somewhere type of storyline parents got to go save them no matter the cost kind of idea parents get back together almost lol❤
I love the raptors in 3, in the first 2 movies they were treated like unrelenting horror monsters.
In this they're treated more like intelligent animals still dangerous but they could have easily tore into everyone but they knew the risk of accidentally crushing their eggs.
The vocalizations are dynamic and you see their personalities subtly
Also the lore implications of the males being a pregenerators to blue with the stripes and colorization
FYI you forgot to add this to your playlist of Jurassic Park vids
8:58 The world's biggest carnivore... The Spinosaurus
I want to throw my vote in for the Jurassic World series. Honestly, they're fun, and that's all a movie really needs to be.
Fun Fact the script in JP III wanted Billy to die but the fans didn't like so they wanted them to think he was dead but he was alive the whole time and the dino That attacked the plane is a Spinosaurus
That cellphone scene still makes my intestines scrunch up together like an accordion
Please watch the Jurassic World Series! They’re so good! The action and CGI are so good, those three movies have some of my favorite movie deaths of all time.
I love this JP3 movie as a kid. The Spinosaurus and TRex were my favorite carnivores as well as the Allosaurus and Raptors
i remember as a kid my uncle actually gifted me some dinosaur toys and 2 of it actually where jurassic park 1 and 3 props (the trike in the childs hand at 3:30) and another from the first movie and i had no idea all that time... now i wish ive knew cause i cant find them anymore :( would like to know if they are worth something.
The “Alan” bit is a callback to earlier when Alan was trying to have the parrot say his name.
The horned dinosaur seen at the spinosaur dung scene is a jurassic theropod called a Ceratosaurus.
Such a great film, I love it.
21:23 it’s a spinosaurus, they said it was earlier
They say a lot of stuff she misses. It'd insane.
ANGELINA I love whenever you post a new reaction to movie video it makes my day more better.
I think that’s just a copout for lazy art design
Jurassic World! Make it happen Ange!
That one phone ringtone from this movie has been stuck in my head for 20 years.
20:07
Yes, the Ceratosaurus got spooked due to the smell. Not because it reeked, but because the poop was dropped by a larger carnivore(in this case the Spinosaurus), so it thought it would be best to find food elsewhere.
jurassic park 3 was one of my favorite movies as a kid, and it holds up today! the spinosaurus is such a badass in the jurassic movies
Joe Johnston also directed Jumanji and Rocketeer.
21:25 THE NAME OF THE DINOSAOUR IS SPINOSAURAS..IT LIVED IN EARTH 70 MILLIOON YEARS AGO.ITS FOSSIL FOUND IN MODERN DAY EGYPT
its sad that we did not get to see that that guy got a raptor claw in his spinel cord i love that scene
You should certainly do Jurassic World triology as well. The dinosaur with the sail on its back is a Spinosaurus. They wanted to have a dinosaur that could use its fore claws instead of just its mouth like the Tyrannosaurus Rex from the first two.
In the first film, Hammond offered to fund the dig site for a further _three_ years.
I can't wait for Jurassic World!
This is by far the most underrated movie in the franchise
The running theme is the lengths a parent goes to retrieve their child.
i don't know if this qualifies as a "Unpopular Opinion"
but i love this movie and i love the design of their Spinosaurus
I think that because this one was the first one I got to see in cinema... as a 9 year old, it was always my favorite, not the best, but my favorite.
The Jurassic World franchise is not a separate franchise, it's the same one. They are Jurassic Park 4, 5 & 6.
