In Finland we have our own version of Baseball (Finnish baseball). It's nice that our umpires are secure and don't have ego issues. They also know that they aren't the stars of the show. If no one remembers their name after the game they've done a good job. Also players are A LOT less aggressive. Last year in men's top league not a single player was tossed out in about 200 games of regular season or during play offs. Yellow card worning, receive two such warnings and you'll get a red card and you're tossed out, was issued 43 times. No one was stupid enough to smack talk too much after receiving a warning. Nobody did anything to warrant a direct red card. In three highest men's and women's league + highest boy's and girl's leagues combined there was only one incident where someone got direct red card. There were few cases with double yellow.
One day there is going to be a big physical altercation and an umpire is going to be on the receiving end. Then they will go " Oh wait we have a problem."
MLB needs to grade Umps and get rid of the worst 20% every year. Umpiring has to be better or be replaced by technlogy, which wouod be horrible for the game.

Umpire score cards are posted every game as well to the public. Umpires are graded every game on how they control, call, and preserve the game through the whole nine innings. The better teh score card is at the end of the season determines which umps go to the post season.

Calling balls and strikes and calling close plays is a lot harder than people think. I know cause I've umpires games before. Not at the MLB level, but at the high-school level.
