This is one of my favorite channels because it combines my favorite hobbies, fishing, camping, exploring along with my orher favorite hobby, cooking. And he knows what he is doing on the chef front which makes it awesome to watch and learn from.
Cats would definitely be your best friend with all the seafood you process. 😊❤ Thanks for the shrimp processing lesson! I have frozen raw shrimp to prep & now I know how to do it . 😊
the shells and trimmings of the shrimp browed in a saucepan and then a shot of cognac or sherry and then broth added makes a great base for a sauce or bisque
Taku. Thank you for introducing me to Athletic Brewing. I’m 45 and dranked too much since the young end days. After a month I’ve lost my beer gut! And it taste better than some of my favorite beers!!! Oh yea. Great channel keep it up 🎉
I mean, all due respect to the guy, he's still just a fishing boat, charter capt. It's not like he's on some giant tanker, crabber, or an actual LARGE vessel. Dude probably doesn't know what a fathom actually is and just remembers it as "kinda 10ft." Notice 9 or 10 fathoms was 90-100ft?
@chris6054 California regs for boat fishing for rock fish and lings is based on fathoms, it's kinda something every fisherman and boat captain is expected to know.
Anything out of the ocean that you can eat raw is super good, I did it to anchovy something people don't like but use as bait, and it was bomb taste like oyster but got a raw fish texture, the bone was so small you can chew it down, I love it after I explained it. But I would love to try fresh catch shrimp raw, too. I love sushime
Hey Taku and Jocelyn, Awesome array of fish🎉. I've always wanted to fry up shrimp heads, not much of that since our shrimp comes from Indonesia 😢! YumO ! JO JO IN VT 💞
There is another way I like to remove the last little bit of tail cuz there is a little bit more meat. Instead of pinching you can hold the tail flat between two fingers and gently pull
Yuzu would've been good as a acid cook for the raw shrimp but I understand where you are and I'm assuming they probably taste like sweet shrimp raw; I just can't eat a whole donburi of it and I doubt most people can. I love this recipe because I wish more people would save the heads of shrimp and fry them this way en masse. The only time I get them is a side treat for sweet shrimp sashimi.
I shrimped all the time in the Bay Area we would crab and have shrimp pots sitting on top of the crab pots but since they change the rules in the last few years, I have not shrimped. You have to move the pots around to find them once you find them you can get yourself half a bucket in the day or Two soak. But you have to find them.
At 8:20, there was an octopus. It wasn’t released; it was trapped and not caught by hand. It was placed in a bucket. Why wasn’t that one released? Or did you release that one?
Every year I keep telling myself I'm going to hire a boat up in Hood Canal for Spot Prawns....every year I don't. Jealous!! lol Maybe this year I'll head up to the Sound for squid? Yeah, right....who am I kidding?
That lincod ep I will check that on my list one day I hope the ep with your hero sushi chef had me drooling your videos honestly give me relief from the political bs I think everyone could use a beach to themselves occasionally lol good vids
Dude!!! How come your barnacle foods kelp chili crisp looks so much bigger on television!!! picked some up from cost plus the other day. That stuff is legit!!! pretty spicy for me already but quite good. I can't imagine what the extra spicy is like. Really enjoy your videos! Keep up the good work!
@@OutdoorChefLife Thanks Taku! I just got it there because it's right down the street from me in so cal. Do you get a percentage if I use the links from your videos? What's the best way to say thank you?
@@garyconley69 Whether you buy in store or online, I get a small percentage. I do get a little more kickback with the online links in the description. All good either way 👍
I noticed that many Japanese cooks use raw eggs as a dipping sauce. In Japan they claim that there is no salmonella there, but what about here in the US? Or, did you buy or pasteurize your eggs? I want to try this but am wary of salmonella.

Always enjoy your videos, but for me, there's something special about this one.
Fathom=6 feet or 1.8m
Me thinks the captain wasn't interested in giving away a trade secret 😂

9 fathoms is 54 feet .

Another epic trip in the books! Helluva smorgasbord on the deck and that shrimp cook looks delish.
I am also a shrimp fan I eat the whole shrimp head to tail when it’s cooked crispy like in garlic shrimp recipes. The shell is full of collagen 👍
so cool seeing you enjoy your life taku, the food always looks awesome and you guys always have a very pleasant vibe, keep it up!!!
Nice work Taku and team. Jocelyn loved it too.😊
Your dishes are so yummy looking! Great adventure and cook up!

Hey Taku and Jocelyn,
Awesome array of fish🎉.
I've always wanted to fry up shrimp heads, not much of that since our shrimp comes from Indonesia 😢!

JO JO IN VT 💞
Catching shrimp 🦐 would be a great charter.
As always Taku, your food made me hungry.
As usual, food looks amazing!
This looked so fire!!
That what we used for salmon and steelhead. Cure them up for bait. If there’s any left. lol.
Taku you’ve done it again!! Rep the Bay! I’ve got to try doing that with some sashimi shrimp 😊
There is another way I like to remove the last little bit of tail cuz there is a little bit more meat. Instead of pinching you can hold the tail flat between two fingers and gently pull
dude you are the man! this is the good life
home run baby!!
up here in the gulf islands of BC we spot prawn in 280-350 feet and shrimp in 220-280
Nice video Taku...I give you a solid 7 on the Taku Beer Chug Meter
Rockfish I was catching near pescadero this weekend we're spitting these shrimp up

Never seen Taku not want to share his dinner… and he had someone else filet his fish?! What is happening to this man! Lol😂
Comfort video. Knocked it out of the park!

Taku as always getting down 🎉
You are hecka resourceful.
Looks delicious as always!👍
Lawd that looked delicious
When do we get hooded sweatshirts or hoodies? Mine got ruined and I'm in desperate need of another. Thank you Taku!!!
Ditto on the hoodies. Well mine is good but a size or two too large but I wear it anyway 😁
what's the translucent gunk on the traps?
How cool. Always want to try that sometime. Fyi a fathom is 6 feet. So captain said 9 fathoms is 95-100' is incorrect. 9*6=54'
Popcorn shrimp heads. Taku was on fire today with all the fish caught. Would like to see Jocelyn's "diablo" shrimp in a later video
love your videos- fan from South Africa
Those whelks are probably pretty tasty, too!
Keep making the greatest content
I concur on the comfortability of the apron. Mine is in need of a wash, though 😅! What do you recommend, Taku?!
Taku is always on the fish
Funny, lagunitas got me into IPAs as well. Cheers
Hi where can I get that large jar of kelp chile crisp? awsome video
Nice video! Could we have a cookbook update? It's been a while since you talked about it in a video. Hope it's coming soon!
How much does it usually cost to go on a charter fishing boat like this? And do i need my own fishing equipment? Would love a video on the process
I can't find that chill crisp any where in Oklahoma
I’m not from Oklahoma but I been living here for 3 years
Looks tasty! Do they not need to be deveined because they're so small?
Now I know what to do with shrimp heads. Jocelyn called out the menu. Chili crisp for sure. Or nori hand roll. Good call
What is the main rules when cooking with oil?
Looks soon delicious. I'm going to make this.
That looks so delicious!
We go shrimping for spot prawns usually in May and June in Washington State here. We would love to invite you next year if you are interested in 😊
Albacore bite 10mile out wide open bite 20 or bigger water temp 63 degrees at half moon bay.
💛...you gotta know when taku's eyes close, it's gotta be over the top tasting...oh, and those shrimp heads?...like japanese chicharones...
Awesome video Taku
At 8:20, there was an octopus. It wasn’t released; it was trapped and not caught by hand. It was placed in a bucket. Why wasn’t that one released? Or did you release that one?
It went into the release bucket along with the little fish
Aloha. Didn’t even know about this fishery. Were they as good as spot prawns?
Yeah a hand roll with the shrimp and the crunchy heads and an egg and some shiso.
Every year I keep telling myself I'm going to hire a boat up in Hood Canal for Spot Prawns....every year I don't. Jealous!! lol
Maybe this year I'll head up to the Sound for squid? Yeah, right....who am I kidding?
Hi Taku 👍❤️ 🇪🇺
How do you like that piscifun baitcaster?
Mann Taku …smack me stupid until you said something, I thought you teleported to Alaska brother .. good job 👍
Nom nom nom that looks delicious
That lincod ep I will check that on my list one day I hope the ep with your hero sushi chef had me drooling your videos honestly give me relief from the political bs I think everyone could use a beach to themselves occasionally lol good vids
I had shrimp heads in Japan once but if I remember correctly they were just fried with no batter!

Cost plus only wants to carry the small jars. You can get the bigger jars online or some mom and pop shops carry them.
