    Now where's Lazer Collection 32
    EDIT: Ok, just watched this, and jokes aside, this was absolutely fantastic. You've perfectly summed up the struggles of being a creator in the modern era, while throwing in the Dom Fera charm that has made me a fan of yours for almost a decade. As a creator myself, you inspire me to push past the norm and really make the videos that I want to make. I guess you could say that I think this was quality Content.

    That was a good time. Congrats on winning for the writing! You've always been good at comedy, music, and acting in general (sorry, I'm the "fan who knows you as formerly being the Fart Diaries guy), but over the years, your ability to cohesively tell a compelling story has grown the most. It's impressive what you guys used to make for short 3-5 minute sketches, but over the last few years, all of your longer material continually leaves me feeling impressed.
    Please don't stop growing

    Dom, I really hope I do get to see a big Hollywood movie directed/written by you someday. Because big budget movies SUUUUUUCK right now, and I want to see something with the amount of care and passion you always put into your work, even the pointless shit like laser collection. I remember watching your skits and shorts and thinking, hey, this feels like it used to feel when I'd watch movies as a kid, like Jurassic Park. Like an actual fucking movie. Don't give up, Dom! Don't let your dreams be dreams. For real tho, get into that horrible Hollywood dump of an industry and start the war against those assholes who make movies purely for money. I'll be here, cheering you on.

    It's been really cool growing up alongside your content, Dom. From being a 10-year old and thinking the Lazer Collection was the funniest shit ever, to being 15 and thinking Hans the Lifeguard was the funniest shit ever, to being 20 and enjoying this - it's funny, but it's also actually meaningful as a standalone work of film. Being able to grow and mature alongside your channel has been such a wonderful experience.
    Hero was great. Away was great. This is great. You're getting better at the whole writing and filmmaking thing. Also, this feels like something Edgar Wright could've made, and that's fucking awesome.

    I saw a comment saying the aliens are allegorical for the platforms accessible now for content creators, but I like to think the aliens are actually the viewers. It makes the aliens a much more nuanced character in this story and really fits the theme of how numbers of viewers/likes/followers is how people become popular in contrast with legitimately good/original (the two are synonymous, just wanted to add this caveat) content. As such, I see the ending as a sad one since a good writer has to give up his dream to an extent in order to make it now. Instead of scripts and long productions, the theme is unoriginal, bland content that can literally be cranked out in the time it takes to record a video and upload it. He was reticent because he knows it's not what he wants to do and that there is so much more than his talents could go to, but he has to in order to be taken seriously, to get ahead, and to make his dream have any chance at becoming reality. The MC may have solved his problem of sitting down to vlog, but he's added one that is much worse: how to balance doing necessary evils with his overall desires. Well done as always, Dom.

    I was expecting an alien to actually show up and do something. Like, how do they actually help everyone? Mind control? See the future? Connect all humans into a global hivemind?
    Or is the message that cell phones/vlogging are the aliens and they help everyone? Did the screenwriter get his script made? So many questions at the end.

    • @Pattycake1165
      @Pattycake1165 6 років тому +62

      Ignat Remizov The aliens themselves are allegorical for the accessibility of creators in the digital world. Everyone has the ability to be creators now and that means most will create bad shit that has no business existing but it will also let people who would normally not have the opportunity create something that is wonderful.
      It might seem like there’s a sea of shit on youtube, and there is, but along with it we’re able to get content we never could.
      As far as questions about the backstory, those answers are irrelevant. Maybe missed an opportunity to comment on the digital entertainment landscape but I think this movie summed it up pretty well.

    I have watched you since I was 9 years old. Like most people I have stumbled across your channel because of lazer collection. But even then when I was that young I was into everything you did like the Billy Goat Caller, Devil and Daniel Webster, all the little sketches you did with friends, etc. I haven’t stopped watching you since. I’m 19 now and I’ve been going through some things too as an artist/musician. This short film really resonated with me and I am just so happy for you. I’m so proud on how so much you have grown as a film maker and animator. Like after seeing this I went back and watched all your older videos and got kinda emotional because you have grown so much and did not stop. I gotta that your newer short films and especially this one are some of your best work yet. Your work will not be left unappreciated!! You are one of the few people that have inspired me to pursue my dreams as an artist. Thank you for this film and thank you so much for all the things you have created and I wish you nothing but the best.

    I thought it was shaping up to be a pretty sad story about the corporate machinations of how our world works these days but then it was suddenly pure fun. Like, yeah, working in that industry is going to suck, but don't let it stop you from doing what you really want? Best of luck keeping it all as real as it gets.

    This was so beautifully written and thought out. In today's age where every created is pushed to thrive on UA-cam, you depicted the greater perfectly. Fucking amazing

    Excellent work, as always! Cleverly written, beautifully executed, and I always appreciate your attention to the music; you've never underestimated the value of a good soundtrack, and how it helps set the tone and keep the immersion strong, and I love that. Keep it up!
