Two high school boys discover that a messy basement storage room can be magically transformed with a simple key... and inside this enchanted room is Ellie Heart -- a fantasy girl in every sense. With a new place to hide from their problems, the boys find their ways to the next parts of their lives through jealousy, denial, and their differing relationships with the same dream girl.
Funded entirely through Indie Go Go with the support of UA-cam subscribers! Shot in July 2012 on the Red Epic. This is a criminally underrated movie, for sure.
When they're reading comic books around 13:53, Ellie mentions a "McKellar character." I love that subtle nod to "The End."
Sfenson was also a character from a different film of his (I can't remember which one)

To think the same guy who made the Laser collection made this.
Just because someone makes something stupid and funny doesn't mean they can't make other stuff.
He's just marveling that Dom is able to have such a large range of creativity.
This was one of the first short films that I actually just fell completely into without thinking about the construction ... the acting and writing was so on point.
I also felt a great deal of relatability in both characters.

Holy. Holy crap. To watch this as an introduction to your videos and your filmmaking... I'm just blown away. This is so well done. Every last aspect of it. The dialogue and the acting especially. I don't understand how this only has around 60 000 views.
And after three years it hasn't even gotten 30 thousand more? Jeez. More people deserve to know about this, Dom is fucking awesome and so is everyone else who works on these things.

Dom, whatever you do, and whatever they might *think* they want, KEEP MAKING THESE, they are more important than any lazercollection video, period. They have a meaningful message, they're works of art, and I personally think they are amazing. These short movies are probably some of the best things that you've ever put on UA-cam, and the messages they send always seem to touchdown for me. Don't stop Dom.

I'll never forget watching this premiere at NFFTY a decade ago. My friend Mark (who introduced me to Dom's work) had brought a Spiderman lunchbox for him to sign and we ended up sitting near the back of the theater. One of us realized Dom was sitting right behind us so we had a few minutes before the screening where we got to tell Dom how much we loved Deck'd and how inspiring his films were for us. Like I said, unforgettable experience.
God. Damn. this was good. I thought I was watching a feature length film through most of it. Honestly I watched the laser collection as a young teen and thought they were pretty good but I saw Dom in a Jack and Dean video and thought he must do more but I NEVER expected this. Serious...SERIOUS props.
Aww... "But I want you to." nearly broke my heart... And how the heck do you manage to give your house a completely different look for every movie? It's fantastic. Awesome job as always, Dom :)

I originally followed you for your various animated endeavors, but, after watching The End, I stayed around to see the rest of your live action work. I think you are a brilliant writer, an absolutely astounding director, and a pretty good actor to boot. You have a very natural, likable persona to you, and it's hard not to laugh at the way you present yourself.
Its so amazing that you can go from something like Hans, to this brilliant piece of work. This was such a heartwarming piece of work, the music was top notch, all of their actors, including yourself, played the part so well. I felt so much of a personal touch on this, and you made it so believable that this could really happen. In 20 minutes I felt emotional reactions towards the characters, and, it was just so amazing. A+ work again Dom, absolutely wonderful watch.

Dom you will be famous. The world needs you to be.
In books and movies alike there exists a whole bunch of flawless characters who distort what we expect from the real world. These perfect characters don't and /can't/ exist. Someone like Edward Cullen who does everything we need to at just the right time; it creates an expectation which we're destined to never fulfil. Ellie Hart makes us realise that, and that's exactly what we needed her to do.
It's nothing short of ironic that we needed a perfect girl to destroy the fallacy of "perfect girls"

I remember I was 10 when I saw the first Laser Collection and didn't really know what subscribing was or even really how to use youtube but omg if I would have known to subscribe or to make an account I would have never forgot about this channel, and now that I found it again I will make sure to subscribe! No matter where your career takes you dom, you can always look back at these shorts and know you created some classics for people. You might criticize your work, idk, but these will always be some of my favorite movies and video period.
Holy fuck, I've seen this countless times and I've only just now caught that McKellar (the name that sounds like someone who's a superhero) easter egg from 'The End' at @13:51 when they're reading the comics. God damn Dom, it's the little things like that that which makes this one of my favorite short films that I've seen thusfar.

I think about this short film constantly, it gave me the true definition of a short film.
I remember watching the end and then watching the behind the scenes for this one, and getting so excited. Every new person i meet i always tell them about the masterpieces that still hold up after all this time. It’s been a while since I’ve watched these last, but they are still timeless. Thank you for giving me these incredible works to not only enjoy every single time i watch, but to inspire me as an artist as well.

The lazer collection got a little easter egg in Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon which i though was amazing.

Bros, with all the manliest that's within me, this left me with a warm tingly feeling in my heart (no pun intended). I mean, from the grade A cinematography, to the story in its unflinching look at our deepest desires and fears as human beings. By the end, I felt Dom left it all out there on the set (screen). This may be one of the mot raw films I've seen out there, and I use that term sparingly. Heck I don't even know if it fully fits, but raw bliss is the name of this flick jack. Dom Ferra, heckuva job well done. You've done your part in raising the bar for the short circuit, however big or small.

I've been looking forward to Ellie Heart for quite some time now and I have to say, it truly went beyond my expectations. This is an incredible short film and deserves a lot of recognition. This may not be my favorite DFear production, but it's definitely the one with the best writing, cinematography (due to lighting and filters, mostly), and concentrated theming with the help of a great score.
