I remember watching this live, absolutely epic. Those were great years growing up in the best version of Australia, we never dreamed it would all end, Ford , Holden , gone.
My old man and I would watch it tele every year. We were Holden fans and loved every minute. Dad made us hot dogs and we had home made ginger beer (non alcoholic) Mum and my brother would have the weekend in Sydney with rellies. Wonderful memories.
I was a Holden guy when I was a young fellow, I like em all now though. Those two door Falcons are damn tuff looking cars. Gotta love em. edit: Epic race this one.
Group C, 1973 to 1984. This era of Bathurst was indeed by far the best. 60+ cars, different classes and types of cars, and of course pure racing, with none of the bullshit of today's racing, which 90% of us can't stand. 100%, actually. 110% of us to be more precise. :)
Yes. It is longer than the highlights released on the Australia's Greatest Motor Race VHS and later Chevron DVDs. It has some footage that is now lost from the Seven archive (ie Brock stopping on Conrod and Moffat's first pit stop) that was missing from the DVD release of the "full" race a couple of years ago. I suspect it was the highlights package that was put together for replay on TV in the Bathurst area back when there was a TV blackout.
@@robossuperchannel9434 A very important race with a nail biter ending. Champagne goes to a much deserving Bob Morris & miracle codriver John Fitzpatrick & an equally deserving Colin Bond misses out by just a few seconds. It's heartbreaking the complete entire telecast was lost. Thankyou for delivering this highlights package. The L34 was actually a very fragile car. There is absolutely no chance of ever seeing a genuine & correct L34 with it's little Aussie 4 speed gearbox & tiny Banjo diff compete in anything like an endurance race ever again. It was all we had at the time & all the people involved in preparing & driving L34s all the way to a finish flag at Bathurst are legendary. This stunning achievement in history can never be repeated. This footage you have is golden. Real treasure.
Had both xb and a torana you’d have to be mentally challenged if you lost it in one of those they handled so good but the xb was surprisingly good in the corners but didn’t like to stop …

Yanks are taking over. I'm 67 and I've seen every one back as far as I can remember.

I've always been a Holden man but the XB Fords look frigin awesome. The good old race on Sunday, in the showroom Mondays.

I agree that the two door Falcons were a good looking car.
XC Cobra is fire
Definatly more enjoyable to watch and follow then the shit we have now
You're right about that mate! Bathurst this year was unwatchable. Boring!

Yes I feel the same. Politics has destroyed Bathurst. The biggest ŕace in the world
It’s a shame the master tape only has 5 hours of coverage, which is all that’s on the DVD release.
Love the Old Days.
love all the different sounds of the cars going past pit straight👌
76 XB coupe looks awesome, best Falcon ever made
Magic. Bloody magic. So good
Never been more happy for a Holden to win than I was this year.
2 incredibly good commentators in evan green and howard marsden
Proper racing . I miss the days of all makes, all models rather than the conga line that passes for racing today. Sigh
Yep....(even bigger sigh)
No pace cars turning an "endurance race" into a 2 lap sprint. Ah the good old days.
Much more interesting to watch
i remember this and felt heartbroken for Jack Brabham and Sterling Moss
Well done 😄
Real mix of cars and manual handling for pit stops
Real skills then...
now mechanised speed drops
No pit wall.
Biggest disappointment seeing the Brabham/Moss Torana being rear ended. Was looking forward to the oldies cutting some laps.
Is this version different to the channel 7 archive release a few years ago?

@@robossuperchannel9434so why wasn’t those portions restored for that “full” release?
This looks like the UK ITV World Of Sport edit when they showed it after horse racing under the International Sports Special 2 title
Enjoy.... it doesn't happen often
I love not having safety cars to ruin the race. They are not necessary.
Watched super cars Bathurst this year … 2024… not one mechanical … no alternator, gearbox, engine, wishbone…
I was there
