Excellent video ! Yes, the convenient stores have great food. If you have the chance to visit again I recommend Okonomiyaki in Hiroshima. The Department store are so much fun to visit.
Loved this series! Wrote down some of the great suggestions. I also went to Japan in 2019 right before COVID. I feel so lucky but now I have to go back!!
Everything looked terrific. Great job. I can’t tell you how many times when I follow your recipes on here that I wished I knew what yours tasted like just to see how close I came to copying it.
I love watching your videos, they are soooo friggin entertaining. Going to Tokyo was never on my bucket list, until I watched these, it’s somewhere I definitely need to go in the future. Thanks Sam. 😃
Reminds me very much of travelling with my dad who is a chef& author. I plan the trip and restaurants, he sits down and eats😉 Japan is yet on our to do list. But definitely not during the humidity of Japans summer.
NOTHING is better than CoCo Curry. We have a close second place in NYC (and one in LA, I believe) called Go! Go! Curry! It is quite delicious in its own right... but CoCo is the thing I miss about Japan the most. Chicken Katsu Curry is life.
Family Mart Fried Garlic Chicken and Curry Buns were.....amazing. Miss being in Japan soo much. Miss CoCo's, I always got shrimp cutlet curry or crab crokett(spelling*).
Great video, and agree with almost everything here. One tip to add about the department stores, a lot of them also has roof top gardens where you can go and enjoy food and view of the Tokyo skylines. My favourite one is the Isten in Shinjuku.
This series made me wet my eyes a bit. I've been to and from Japan for 5 consecutive years and I miss it soo much. Ichiran Ramen, CoCo Ichibanya and Takashimaya are the places I go to whenever I'm in JPN.
This was my favorite video you’ve produced! Love your channel. I’d love to see you recreate all that Japanese goodness in your kitchen....esp the egg salad sangie! Best regards!
We went to Japan in May for our honeymoon & I absolutely loved reminiscing about all the amazing places we went to, including a handful on this list! Such an amazing part of the world & I can't wait to go back, the food is to die for!
And I thought your vids in your backyard were funny; oh my god, you should travel more often. Thanks for the laughs and good food. Please by all means...keep it up! Love you man!
As a 20 year Japan resident, I can confirm - Konbini Tamago San (Convenience store egg Salad sandwich) IS really fantastic. BTW a Japanese 7-11 egg, ham, cheese on a muffin (aka an egg McMuffin) is also yummy. I've got one in my fridge for tomorrow mornings breakfast! Sam is right y''all should come over, Tokyo has it all - great food, shopping, nightlife, sightseeing in a safe environment and the exchange rate is still favorable (although not like it was a few years ago).
Awesome video Sam. I've been to Tokyo several times. It's my wife's favorite destination. On the last visit, I went to the department store and loaded up with matcha green tea for her. I'm definitely going to try your recommendations next time. Like you, to me, the food is what makes traveling fun.
I ate an egg sandwich every morning when I was in Tokyo a few months ago and I plan on doing it again when I go back in January. The best egg sandwiches are the ones with the chicken teriyaki in them.
I have always been fascinated with japan and the culture and went for the first time a few years ago, I have been back every year since! It’s truly life changing, some of the food can be a little intimidating at times but all I can say is take the jump and try it! You will be suprised, For me my soul food forever meal is the bargain basement gyudon / beef bowl, Mildly seasoned ultra thin cut beef strips in a bowl of rice with onion, Life changing
Seeing you eating Izekaya with tongue meat made me think you should definitely try Indonesian Delicacy the Sate Padang, they also use the tongue meat but the sauce. The sauce is divine 👌
Sam, you're bad ass bro.! , I never fried and egg in my life , now I can cook a few things , thanks to your very simple and easy way of cooking.! Thanx so much!
THANK YOU, Sam (read as sarcasm) for telling the world about the egg salad sandwiches. I grew up in Japan (20 years in Tokyo) and travel to Japan quarterly for work -- and now, because of you. it is harder to find the egg salad sandwiches I love -- because all the gaijin tourists are eating them all up. So THANK YOU. (Again. Sarcasm.) You know ... it's OK NOT to tell people about some things.
I just had Coco Ichibanya curry in LA for the first time since I left Japan 16 yrs ago. Man, I knew they had opened up some restaurants in LA years ago, but i don't know why I have not eaten there till this past weekend. Man it brought back so many memories. I will try to go at least once a month from now on.
Thanks Sam, I would love to visit Tokyo, but can't afford it and thanks again for bring Tokyo to us. Wow, I can see why people love going to Japan Nice.
Tokyo is a second home of sorts for me. You did an outstanding job presenting a great selection of Japan’s gastronomic offerings. People should be aware you only had enough time to dip your toe in the water. It would probably take a year to cover it completely.
I've had those sandwiches when I was in the USAF at Yokota AFB, and he ain't lying. I still crave them 45 years later. God damn I miss those sandwiches, especially when I've smoked a bowl.
We have CoCo Ichiban Curry in the states on the west coast local, Sam. Dunno about you down in the south, but up in Greater LA area for sure! I was working when I came up on a line for this awesome curry. Some hot rod kids had bought some and were eating it in their car. I politely asked what was up with the food. They answered oh this, its the grinds... man. I went and bought a combo chicken cutlet with root veggies in it, spice level number 3. Blew my mind for comfort food. There's also a choice for a larger portion of rice too. Great comfort food, Sam!
The BEST egg salad sandwich I tried was from a Lawson at Shin Osaka train station.. Somehow better than the normal Lawson convenience store. They also had GREAT chicken katsu sandwiches!.. Can't beat a soft bread Japanese sandwich! Robert
Coco's all over Japan. We had a nice place in Iwakuni, that our daughter and grand children loved. Her hubs is a Marine, and they were stationed there a few years ago. Simple, clean, very good.
I spent time in Yokohama 30 year’s ago. The yakitori shacks blew my mind in the same way. Bars that only hold a handful of people. Sushi like I have never had again. Beer from ally vending machines. I live in a small town in central Illinois now. We had yakitori for dinner and my kids eat with chopsticks.
Ok so the egg salad sandwich that we have here in Australia is egg, mayo, curry powder, iceberg lettuce salt and pepper. When I make it at home I now use kewpie mayo because of you.........so good and dont be shy with the curry powder. Also add chopped parsley or even green onion yummmm.
I once walked back from a bar drunk as hell and went to Family Mart and got me an egg salad sandwich. I ate one of them in a cab on the way back to my barracks and when I woke up I had the other sandwich sitting on my desk in the wrapper. What a pleasant surprise. This was last weekend actually lmao
I just watched a guy review 3 egg salad sandwiches and loved it lol
I feel like I could only watch Sam doing this.
that's how it starts check out food for louis and you know how it ends
Just watched . This guy is great. We went two years ago and I LOVED 7-11 egg salad sandwich for breakfast every morning!
I really enjoy how appreciative and respectful you are towards food, not only in this video. Thank you for that.
Another great show! Thanks for sharing!!
100% agree on coco's first stop from the airport for me. got to get level 4 heat and some of the garlic cheesy naan. I wish they had it over here!
I really miss being able to travel to Japan - fantastic food, scenery, lovely people and probably the world's best skiing in Hokkaido...
Everything looked terrific. Great job. I can’t tell you how many times when I follow your recipes on here that I wished I knew what yours tasted like just to see how close I came to copying it.
Dude, who cares? If it tastes good, you did good!
Keep doing the traveling shows... Very very well done
I love watching your videos, they are soooo friggin entertaining. Going to Tokyo was never on my bucket list, until I watched these, it’s somewhere I definitely need to go in the future. Thanks Sam. 😃
Max is a fantastic video editor. This is extremely watchable. Nice Lost In Translation reference by the way.
Max your video skills are amazing mate. Good job.
Tokyo has always been on my bucket list, but I think it's climbing higher on my list now. Great video.

Obsessed with watching Sam! Can’t wait to get my learn on in Tokyo!
Sam's final talk about his trip, really seems like he was channeling Anthony Bourdain (RIP). No wonder I became a Sam fan.

Thanks Sam, I would love to visit Tokyo, but can't afford it and thanks again for bring Tokyo to us. Wow, I can see why people love going to Japan Nice.
The egg salad sandwich was an everyday breakfast for me when I used to live there and Lawson was always the winner for me. 7/11 is good too tho
Lawson's is fluffier and delicious, the family mart one is terrible
Tokyo is a second home of sorts for me. You did an outstanding job presenting a great selection of Japan’s gastronomic offerings. People should be aware you only had enough time to dip your toe in the water. It would probably take a year to cover it completely.
Sam, I've been thinking about Tokyo as my next big travel plan, I think your vid just pushed me over. Gotta do it!

Was on Okinawa, 1971. A&W Rootbeer, Pork cutlet on a whopper-size roll, mayo. Nice. Had the same on a train dining car going from Tokyo to Misawa.
The BEST egg salad sandwich I tried was from a Lawson at Shin Osaka train station.. Somehow better than the normal Lawson convenience store. They also had GREAT chicken katsu sandwiches!.. Can't beat a soft bread Japanese sandwich!

Coco's all over Japan. We had a nice place in Iwakuni, that our daughter and grand children loved. Her hubs is a Marine, and they were stationed there a few years ago. Simple, clean, very good.
