John, Peggy Fleming Jo JO Starbuck and others went to China (don't remember the year) and I remember him doing the skater's waltz with JoJo. It was unforgetable at that time. This brought back so many memories! John is so sorely missed. He was the greatest male skater ever!
......you are never more famous than when you die....but some people always leave some thing to remember them selfs with in more ways than one...and John Curry was just such a guy....he reinvented skating and showed the establishment of his time that they was far more to skating than just leaps, jumps and twirls....they was artistic line and beauty, some thing that budding skaters should take notice of..!...Thanks for posting...
I wonder if Torvill and Dean have seen this as I feel sure some of their moves have been inspired from an exhibition like this. Incredible skating. Have now caught up with some great videos of John Curry.
They definitely saw this performance as they appeared in the same gala. They were also at the Queens Ice Rink gala the year before when John & JoJo performed Tango Tango (see my other clips) for the first time in UK. This was before T&D began training with Betty Calloway and I believe Tango had a big influence on their choreography of programmes like Barnum and Mack & Mabel, showing that ice dance could convey character and emotion, not just 'look at how nifty our feet are'.
@@quillerpen thank you for letting me know , i regularly watch johns skating as he made it look so easy and simple, but on his interview said he was really working hard, so much ahead of his time and still is
Nice performance. You may notice that John accidentally hits JoJo's skate going forwards and she almost trips and falls but catches herself at 2:32. Another little slip a little further past that one too.
Jojo and Ken came out to South Africa to train us with John Nicks in the 70’s. ❤️memories, had the pleasure of John’s coaching
What is left to say but exquisite! John Curry, one of a kind. RIP John.

I think it was 1981; this performance was just after the China trip
@@quillerpen Thank you!

@@quillerpen actually, T&D started training with Betty in 1978.
I love this!!! such a recreation of skating in the 30's!!
Wonderful music. Exquisite dance.
Superb!
The greatest skater ever, can i ask has anything happened to floskate as between you both, I've been introduced to the great John curry
floskate is still around; we're both glad we could introduce you to John's skating; he was a unique man and I feel privileged to have seen him

beautifull
What a pity he didn't team up with Belita. It would have been an exact parallel with Rudolf Nureyev and Margot Fonteyn.
Great! It seems to be like a fairy.tale!
One of the rare instances where the man is more graceful than the girl. ;)
@Bobskate143 streatham is now closed, it closed this weekend.

The one near the barrier was where the Zamboni used to come on and off. i used to skate at that rink and that part was always a bit rough
never seen this.
