Three MC's and One DJ video is mandatory.
Definitely!!
100 percent is. All one take done live, one record on the table...amazing.
💯
💯
I concur
They were from NYC, but not part of the Bad Boy / Death Row, East / West, scene. They're early Def Jam, and kept the 80s DJ feel alive. This track, and many of their others, has the traditional "I'm so fly" MC style. Their skills earned respect, as did their authenticity. They were three Jewish kids from Manhattan/Brooklyn who never pretended to be anything else.
They were signed to Def Jam while its mailing address was still Rick Rubin's dorm room.
I wouldn’t say the Beastie Boys did parody. They took their craft seriously, but didn’t take themselves too seriously. That shows in their videos. They weren’t afraid to use humor in their videos. The influence of Run-DMC in the Beastie Boys is apparent.
"Fight For Your Right To Party" was a parody of frat boys but frat boys and everyone else loved the song and it was a big hit. The Beastie Boys later said it was a joke and they didn't like it.
@@logic63Ad Rock says that Girls he now finds problematic, as a Song.
@@marviafrancis-robinson2560 lol yeah, I've heard about that. Why can't it just be a funny song? Nobody took it that serious. So dumb.
Chuck D and LL Cool J inducted them into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and in his speech LL credited them with his start by giving Rick Rubin his demo. They go back to the beginnings of rap/hip hop but are rarely credited for that.
I about died when you said Licensed to 3 😂. I love that they don't take themselves so seriously while taking their art very seriously. You have to do more from them. RIP MCA, my favorite beastie.
If you truly want a great Beastie boys experience you need to go to both ends of the spectrum, I'd suggest "Paul Revere", "Gratitude", "So Whatcha want" and the legendary "3 MC's and 1 DJ" - all amazing tracks that showcase the best of the Beasties
“3 MC’s and 1 DJ” is probably my favorite of theirs.
Root down is one of my favorites
Paul’s boutique would like a word with you
@@Grande79 let him ease in .. that album has to be done start to finish , and the story of the Dust Brothers .. and the hard drive .. and why they really call us Gen X .. ya let him ease in ...
And Egg Man, the best tune they ever recorded.
If you want old school Beastie Boys, check out the track Brass Monkey
Their track “So What’cha Want” has a real hard beat on it.
My Fav!
That smile on your face is why the Beastie Boys are legends. That’s what they did, and still do. You physically couldn’t stop a smile when the Beastie Boys are on. Some of their stuff will make you laugh your ass off. I read an interview where one of them said they would be in the studio writing lyrics just to make the other two laugh.
The Beastie Boys Made their own beats, and “wrote” the music themselves, as the played instruments, previously being a punk band! When they say “producer” they mean who did the mixing, recording and balancing, etc!
Request: Beastie Boys playing "Sabotage" live on Letterman. You will not be disappointed.
These guys are PIONEERS of hip hop.
This is from 1990's. You need to go back to the beginning. You can hear the progression of Hip Hop just by listening to their albums.
This isn't a parody of hip hop. This is their sound. People copy them, not the other way around...lol.
Sending 💜
"Shake Your Rump", "3 MCs & One DJ" , "Shadrach" - So many awesome tracks👍
Shake your rump for sure. Those bass drops. That video has the cat “scratching” on the turntable right?
The song is not a parody. This is the Beasties being the Beasties. They always had their own lane. The video is a parody of the original Japanese Godzilla type films.
This is 1998.
They discovered LL Cool J and brought him yo Def Jam.
MCA (RIP) has the deeper raspy voice and is the one in the crazy grey wig. "I'll stir fry you in my wok!"
Most of their videos are fantastic.
The debut album, which has sold 10 million copies, is Licensed to ILL (not III/3). Easy mistake.
Keep in mind that innthe early 1990s, they started playkng their own instruments again which led to the compilation album, "The In Sound From Way Out" which was all instrumental tracks from various albums whete they played instead of rapped. "POW!" is a stand out.
It's not a parody but Omage to the Sunday afternoon B movie that were inevitably something along the lines of Godzilla verse .......or such
Ummm...they did not discover LL Cool J. He was around before them. In fact he played Colby college right here in Maine before Licenced to 3 came out!
@maineiacial At 2:16, LL himself tells how Ad-Rock gave Def Jam his demo tape. So, LL debuted first, but because of The Beastie Boys. It is Licensed to ILL, not 3.
ua-cam.com/video/BSCYCc64Eyk/v-deo.htmlsi=MJrhWXv9tyNfn7r_
More of a diss track. If my raps soup then my beats is stock.
Someone said they alphabet soup. Plus others.
@@maineiacial It was them who gave LL's drmo to Rock Rubin who signed him to Def Jam. It's why LL inducted them into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Watch his speech sbd hear it from him himself.
“ so watcha want” is my favorite of theirs
Deep deep catalogue! So Whatcha' Want, No Sleep Til Brooklyn, Hey Ladies, Check it Out, Sure Shot, 3 MCs and 1 DJ, Shake Your Rump and on and on and on
I laugh out loud EVERY TIME at "I'll stir fry you in my wok." The whole video is hilarious, too.
YES!!
And sometimes I just randomly spit that line too. Epic.
Sure Shot, by the Beasties!
The Beastie Boys were a punk band in the 1970’s before they got into rap.
Punk + NYC Ju kung fu Funk = Rap, Beastie style.
😂
As others said, they are from NYC and one of the orignal founders of hip hop. So this song being released late 90s is because after east/west feud and direction rap was going with gangster, the boys wrote this love letter to the old school hip hop style.
License To ill is one of their best albums. Do Paul Revere. I'm sure you will like it. Good job bud
Paul Revere by them has the best beat ever
Beastie Boys are classic 🔥
The licence to ill was epic and still is had 2 monster hits fight for your right (to party) and no sleep til Brooklyn, MCA was irreplaceable like John bonum of led zepplin, a long streak of absolute bangers, sabotage is a really popular video, sure shot is like a psychedelic mind for video, as a non hip hop fan and white as they are i loved the beastie boys I discovered them in the 90s and back when you could get 12 CDs for a penny I had several others albums
The Beastie Boys' early 90's stuff is so complex, and so great. We would love for you to check out that stuff. Songs like, Sure Shot, So, Whatcha Want, and of course 3 MC's And 1 DJ (video). You can't go wrong. Enjoy!
Beasties are among the founders of hip hop- way before Eminem.
Three DJ’s and One MC will show you their pure hip hop skills.
When Chuck D and LL Kool J sing your praises as major influences at the RRHOF Induction ! They gave LL his big break. ❤❤❤❤
I believe they’re from Brooklyn.
The Beasties are incredibly creative and also really funny. Start back from their first hit album Licensed to Ill - then to Paul’s Boutique.
They’re not mocking. This is the music they love.
My favorite part of this song is that each verse has 18 lines that all rhyme. How many other songs have you ever heard that rhyme 18 lines in a row and do it twice? None!
The new style for old school , 3 MCs and one DJ for thier later stuff !
This song is from their 1998 album _Hello Nasty_ . Other bangers off that album include Body Movin, and Three MC's and One DJ. The music video for the latter appears to have been done in one shot. Well, two shots really because two cameras. It includes Mix Master Mike on the turntables.
If you want to hear some of the most colorful storytelling in rap listen to Paul Revere.
The B Boys here hip-hop personified, they always repped the culture and were a positive force in the culture, Adrock discovered LL Cool Jay, and produced his first single. They are OG Originators, never copy cats, they are the originators of the constant pop culture references and goofy injokes, they were the clown princes of hip hop. Also Paul's Boutique their second record Produced by the Dust Brother is a literal painting of sound, over 150-450 samples depending on how you count them, and they got sued by the Beatles over the track the Sounds of Science. They were literal pioneers of sampling technology and techniques, the record is why all the laws about samples exist now.
You got to understand these dudes' origins, but to try and keep it brief, they got put on by Rick Ruben who co-founded Def Jam with Russell Simmons and who Run DMC gave them the pass and blessings. They blew up, they always gave love, respect and paid homage to the originators. They always kept the Run DMC style flow with MC's finishing each other's rhymes.
They are known for having FUN and not taking it so serious, and they always had a heavy hand in finding samples and creating their sound including playing their own instruments in some jams, because they originally were a punk-type band before discovering Hip Hop. They were right there near the ground floor of when Hip Hop took off, and they had a sick DJ, they just stayed true to old school Hip Hop. The reason IMHO they do sound 80s yet won Grammy in the 90s, was because so many of us knew of their history, and to see them back out with a new record, with new material yet true to the style they came from, was just cool to us old heads.
They for sure are not mocking Hip Hop, they were there from day one. They just have silly lyrics. Great reaction looking forward to more. The song was more of a throwback than the rest of the album. They never followed ant trends. Mario C. was coproducer, they produce or coproduce all their own beats actually they do everything themselves. AdRock discovered LL Cool J and produced the beat for his first single "I Need a Beat." Their lyrics are usually not very deep but they always make you smile. They would often say the most important thing in the studio was to make each other crack up. You should check out some more songs ever album is completely different than the others. 1999 Grammy Nominees--"Intergalactic," Beastie Boys, "Money Ain't a Thang," Jermaine Dupri Featuring Jay-Z, "Deja Vu (Uptown Baby)," Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz, "Rosa Parks," OutKast, "Ghetto Supastar," Pras Michel Featuring Ol' Dirty Bastard and Mya.
Their style was pretty consistent throughout their career in terms of rhyming, it had the nursery rhyme cadence which was big in the 80s, at least until Eric B & Rakim came along,
License To ill was my first album, it was so much fun as a kid and even more as i grew up and could understand what they were talking about. Throughout their career they always had fun with their music videos and took the video world by storm. Hey Ladies, Sabotage, You Gotta Fight (for Your Right to Party) all amazing groundbreaking videos definitely not the norm for the time. Have fun exploring these guys.
Check out something early like "Paul Revere", check out "3 MC's and 1 DJ" and there's some good live videos of "Gratitude" where you can see them playing their instruments. "Sabatoge" is a necessity (official video or live). I'm subscribed in hopes that I see more Beastie Boys reactions.
Paul’s Boutique released 1989 is widely considered a revolutionary masterpiece, under appreciated in its time. Highly recommend Egg Man, Shake Your Rump, and Shadrach.
These guys are great/iconic blah blah.. keep goin.
Do videos…3 Mc’s and 1 DJ, So What’cha Want, Sabotage.. many more
Mario Caldato (Mario C) is the producer of three of Beastie's most iconic albums and he, himself is an absolute legend in Hip-Hop and the entire music industry (collabing and producing for countless heavy hitters. He's way passed due on receiving his flowers). 100%
I saw the Beasties live in 1992. Changed my life
You are correct. Many of their songs are parody songs. But they were first.
This came out in '98, it's a parody of that 80's sound. BB has always sounded like a mix of old school and modern, to say it simply. ❤
The Beasties loved hip hop as much as anyone.
yeah, they were a huge part of creating it.
Ad Rock, Adam Horowitz, produced this album with Mario Caldato Jr. as an engineer. He also wrote all the beats.
3 MC’s and One DJ check that one
The Beastie Boys sound like a parody?!?! They are so original that you need to dive into their catalog to get the full picture. Try "Hold it Now, Hit It" or "Paul Revere". Both bangers!
"Intergalactic" is a song by American hip hop group Beastie Boys. "Intergalactic" was released as the first single from their fifth studio album, Hello Nasty, on June 2, 1998. The single reached number 28 on the US Billboard Hot 100, making it the band's third top-40 single, and reached number five on the UK Singles Chart, where it remains the band's biggest hit. It received a Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group in 1999.[1]
Paul Revere and Rhyming & Stealing (live) is what you need in your life
Man, this brought me back! Thank you!
"Licensed to 3" is the most awesome mispronunciation ever of "Licensed to i L L"
Car Thief is another you need to check out. Remember these guys were pure hip-hop fun.
mario c is their longtime producer. they make most of their beats and tracks themselves.
I'm not the biggest Beastie fan, but it's hard not to have fun when they're on. (and License To Ill is just a stone classic album)
Seen them live in the 90's, incredible. Paul's Boutique is a masterpiece which can never be replicated, simply because of copyright law but also because it's so good!
It's funny you mentioned LL Cool J... I'm old now but I'm 85% sure they helped LL get his first contract. Public Enemy opened for them circa 1987....not everyone is hard. but still enjoy the beats...They fill a niche. Find the video of Chuck D and LL Cool J inducting them into the R&R hall of fame.
Seeing you about to go down this AMAZING rabbit hole, I had to subscribe! I can’t wait for more!
I honestly envy you discovering the Beasties for the first time. Icons.
Root Down is my favorite video from them... Their Glasgow concert is FLAWLESS!!!! Pure energy nonstop!
One of the most thoughtful reactions on this song
FYI - the Beastie Boys got LL Cool J broken into music - their producer was Rik Ruben - one of the 2 guys that founded Def Jam Records.
‘Em didn’t get his flow and rhymes from the BBoys, but I think you are correct that he inherited a lot of their satire and humor and DGAF attitude. If you want to hear more of Em’s influences in terms of flows/rhymes check out early Redman, Big L, and Pharoah Monch.
The BBoys were from the early 80s scene and they were always happy doing their own thing so they always maintained that 80’s vibe to their MC style. But they always had fire beats, and also very unique beats, with lots of crazy beat switches…. one of their most consistent attributes. If you go back and listen you’ll see that 80’s beats sounds nothing like this.
sure shot, whatcha want, sabotage. three of the best.
what'cha want is my favorite.
If they are parodying anyone it's of themselves...😁
They love to reference a lot of media, movies etc. in their videos.
If you’ve seen JJ Abram’s “Star Trek” and/or “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3”, then you’ve heard The Beastie Boys. #sabotage #nosleeptilbrooklyn
Here are some more BEASTIE BOYS songs to check out:
HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER.
PROFESSOR BOOTY.
SHAKE YOUR RUMP.
PAUL REVERE.
PASS THE MIC.
A lot of Beasties songs are comical, tongue in cheek, and full of fun. They usually are making fun of how people naturally are. This is from the mid 90s. This is after they release 5 albums and 10 years after they were recording.
remember, Puff Daddy, Jay Z and all them came along about the year 1999 2000. This was before Biggie, before Tupac took off, and NWA had just finished their run. This was years after ICE T, Kool Moe DEE, who were still after the Beasties.
As a huge Beasties fan over the years, I'm embarrassed to say I only discovered "Make Some Noise" a few years ago. The video has actors playing the Beasties and all the characters, so it's pretty amusing. But the beat and lyrics are classic Beastie Boys.
It's not a parody, but you're on the right track. It's an homage to the real OGs of hip hop (DJ Jazzy Jeff, Kool Moe Dee, etc).
The Beastie Boys have always been keenly aware of the history of the genre. They honor that awareness by saluting their influences and adding to the fabric of hip hop in a hugely creative way.
By the time this came out the Beasties were already legends
Nice!
His smile just gets bigger n bigger lol hello nasty is honestly a start to finish album
For me, "Licensed to Ill" was the definitive Beastie Boys album, because that album changed music for me in 1986. "Hold it Now, Hit It," "Slow and Low," "Paul Revere," "No Sleep Till Brooklyn" and "Brass Monkey" were all so fresh and new at the time. "Fight for Your Right" was the single. I guess if someone asked me, I'd say Beastie Boys best song is "Sabotage," but License to Ill defines them for me.
Licence to 3, had to laugh at that one 😂
Huge rabbit hole! Enjoy.
Beasties were all about keeping the 'doo-doo style' alive long after the sound of mainstream hip-hop had morphed into something different. the "80s flow" you are hearing, the 'doo doo style', was something they got from Run-DMC who they were very close with.
License to 3 is one of my favorite albums also lol
90's...the last truly DOPE Decade.
This makes me feel my age a bit.😂😂 #BeastieBeastieBoys! Shoutout to Mix Master Mike - he’s magical for real.
Beastie Boys & Outkast are my 2 fave rap/hip hop groups
They just always playing. Its all about fun with he B-Boys. Just good times. Great beats and bars. Lets have some fun!!!!
Want to ck out the Beasty boy's greatness, watch
"3 MC's and 1 DJ" Mixmaster Mike lays down the beats...
You'll always spot MCA immediately. That husky voice is unmistakable
Thanks for great channel. I can always depend on you to do something interesting, and bring a cool approach to it. Smart too. Awesome brother.
the greatest musical group ever with Two Adams
Beastie Boys are the greatest group ever and not just in hip hop
I saw them on tour for this album, Hello Nasty. It was certainly one of the best shows I've ever seen.
They had multiple sounds for sure. Among what others have suggested, check out Sabotage, Fight for Your Right to Party, Make Some Noise, Brass Monkey. Beasties were one of the best of their time and still seen as legends in hip hop today.
Tom green was a influence in that one Eminem video where he is a super hero, tom green did that on his MTV show before Eminem and Eminem just parody that
They DO have a few cheesy songs early on, but they quickly became pure hip hop heads.
“License to three” 😂😂😂😂 License to ill. Man I needed that laugh
I'm definitely not a rap expert, but a lot of early rap had a lot of humor and party music which is their style. "Well, on the tough guy style, I'm not too keen" ... gangsta rap later took over but they're not that. Although the video is a parody of Godzilla movies, the song is not.... it's just their style. "Now when it comes to envy, y'all is green. Jealous of the rhyme and the rhyme routine"... they are very inventive with lyrics, using words that no other rap group used. That's why Eminem was such a fan. Sugarhill Gang's Rapper's Delight, Blondie's Rapture were both earliest rap hits on pop charts and used term "hip hop". DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, De La Soul, Kid 'n Play, Outkast all used humor.
They were making 'fun' of Kanji monster fights like Godzilla movies in the 1970's in the video and Martial Arts movies sprinkled in here & there.
If you'd grown up in the 70's & 80's you'd understand.
When I heard the 3:09 minute mark on the song The new style off the first album "License to ill!" To put it in perspective it made me a hip hop head for life! Not this new rap or whatever it's called but story telling muthas! Like slick Rick, Scarface, and many more!
Licensed to ill ( not 3)
😅
I was coming to say that too lol
@@Napoli85 Same 😂
There’s a documentary on YT from 1998.
'licensed to Ill' is their best album in my opinion. So many gems from that album. I remember that was the very first cassette tape I ever owned..... & This is from a metalhead! I taught my girls the song 'Paul Revere,' when they were 10 & 9. I never liked the album 'Paul's Closet' At that time I very much; basically began my exploration of other genres.
I have no doubts of your honesty; but there are so many that say they have Not heard this group or Not heard that group; Do you think that some just get closed off in their niches or ? I've experienced a lot of music in my lifetime but my heart & soul reside within classic rock (Also known as my twenty's.)
& Metal. Yet if I heard snoop Dogg, Eminem, run DMC, beastie boys, cool J, fresh prince, Sugarland; Garth brooks, Amy grant, SO MANY! TOO MANY. .... I would know whose voice it was; probably most of the lyrics as well. It's just so hard to imagine Anyone Never hearing 'Thunderstruck.' or 'Ironman' Think of how prevalent rock music is in Sports and Movies. Some of these songs are EVERYWHERE; literally. I was hearing A Led Zep song in Walmart just 2 days ago.
Regardless; just wonder How is there this much lack of culture?
What's your opinion on these things?
I can definitely see never hearing a song in a particular genre or not being aware of the artist. I couldnt name you a Taylor Swift song and to me it sounds like Kate Perry or the lady that made it big from the one the tv shows. Most of todays rap is the same way. I can name hit songs that was on MTV when I was growing up and that is about it. Tim Mcgraw I recongize Dont take the Girl but nothing else. So when people say they never heard a song I believe them. I walk through a store and they are playing Paint it Black by the Sones I get happy and bop along to it. I am sure if you dont know the song you still dont know the song from hearing it a store. Same for movies they play a snippet and show it in the credits. Unless you really liked the song do you wait around for the credits to see who was on the soundtrack.
License to ill is the ultimate Beastie album.
LL owes his career to the Beastie Boys
You said it. You're only one song in. Don't think about Eminem. He's his own thing, but he pays tribute. The Beasties discovered LL and he pays tribute. The Beasties also inducted Run DMC into the hall of fame. I was in 2nd grade in '85 when "License to ILL" dropped and Run DMC was killin'. Watch them do "Sucka Emcees". They switched things up on every album. Welcome to one of the funnest rabbit-holes you'll ever fall down 😂 Nice work, sir.
This one is an awesome nod to Run DMC.✌🏼💜🎶
