The Mr. Spock line is a reference to the original 1960s Star Trek TV series. Mr. Spock (Leonard Nimoy) was known to use a Vulcan nerve pinch (to the neck) to temporarily incapacitate aggressors. The video is a pastiche of old Japanese Kaiju movies, which often featured stunt actors in monster or robot costumes fighting in (and destroying) miniature cities. This song was from their 1998 album Hello Nasty, and I believe the beat was made by Ad Rock and studio engineer Mario C. The "Nnnn-drrrop" was sampled from their own 1986 single "The New Style". A sample also used by The Pharcyde on "Drop", the video for which was directed by Spike Jonze, who also directed a few Beastie Boys videos, but not this one. The Intergalactic video was directed by MCA under the pseudonym Nathanial Hörnblowér.
@@RedTopReactions haha well that’s good! React or no reaction, you gotta watch chuck D and LL cool j induct them into the rock and roll hall of fame. You’ll learn a lot about their history from that. They pretty much gave LL his start in the game. They’re truly a legendary group.

They came out way before any of those artists you mentioned. Beasties, Run DMC, and LL Cool J all played major roles in bringing hip hop to the main stream. These guys first formed in the late 70s, and were one of the first artists to release a record with Rick Rubin on Def Jam label.
Well? Well? Do you realize if AdRock of the Beasties didn't listen to a 16 year olds cassette, you wouldn't have LL Cool J? Do you realize Public Enemy used to open for them? They're foundational. Sample game is insane, some of the best DJs and bring mad energy to their shows. I knew them when they opened for the Misfits and others at CBs and we would go uptown to the Fever. Everyone doing something rebellious and freedom loving (NYC was sucking then, hard), was in. I was at the Loft, at the birth of house, you would pass groups going from one type of club to another all the time. It was a glorious time.
"From the family tree of old school Hip Hop." They shout out Kool Mo D on here. He gave the Beasties be an A for sticking to themes, back when Kool Mo D used to issue report cards to other rappers.
You seriously need to listen to their discography in order, their voices and personality and skill all improve album to album. The production on their albums are incredible. Paul's Boutique, their 2nd album is a timeless masterpiece. Check out Shake Your Rump, Hey Ladies, Shadrach, Car Thief, High Plains Drifter.... You won't be disappointed if you're into seeing how experimental hip hop can go.
Yep. Paul’s boutique is straight fire. The problem with the beastie boys for ppl that don’t know their catalogue well is that some of their most commercially popular tracks are more rap-rock, which straight hip hop heads don’t enjoy so much. Whereas the beastie boys aficionado knows they can do everything from straight funk to straight punk and can recommend the right tracks for the right people.
I would recommend doing SURE SHOT, then WATCHA WANT, then ROOT DOWN. Those beats? That bass?? BEASTIE BOYS actually played the music themselves! They have an extensive catalogue of hits for 3 decades since the 80s. If there is a Mount Rushmore of rap Beastie Boys are definitely on it. You have no idea just how amazing they were, the more you look into them the more you will be amazed. Run DMC opened for them and they discovered LL Cool J... Think about that!
"Like a pinch on your neck from Mr. Spock" The bar is a reference to Star Trek. Specifically, the character of Spock, who was an alien from the planet Vulcan. Vulcans are pacifists and have mastered various martial arts for defense. In several episodes, Spock is seen pinching the neck of someone, which renders them unconscious.
