Good morning Paul, great bandsaw mill you built, high winds and snow the last 24 hours here but will get through it. Take care friend.

      Hello Mark,
I hope you are staying warm and doing well. We have a had the tail end of a couple of storms pass from your area up to ours, lots of snow and sustained winds. Oh well it's winter and It sure helps one appreciate a full woodshed!
Thanks, I am so thankful for the mill, after many years of great service it continues to serve us well. I sure had a lot of fun building it! I have some more lumber to saw for the school as well as some Cedar, Ash, and a bit of Butternut for some projects at home. There's something magical in the beautiful aroma of fresh sawdust!
All the best Buddy, always great to hear from you.

Great to hear from you Buddy, I hope your winter has started well.
Thanks so much, the mill has served us well now for over 20 years. It was probably the most fun project I have ever built. The softwood lumber I am sawing (I have a few more logs yet to go) is going to be donated to a local high school shop program. The school has a great program, over the years the students have built cedar strip canoes, sheds, snowshoes, paddles, and all sorts of furniture, cutting boards, etc.
I have some Cedar, Butternut, and Ash to saw for some projects here at home.
As always it was great to hear from you!

Our winter just arrived a few days ago for real. What's your plans for the wood -boards and slabs?
Dad mostly ( & I a bit) got the bandsaw going and I sawed some 3 inch planks for side boards on the gravel pup, but that's it so far.
Hoping to saw some tamarack for floor boards on the dump box to go on my old yellow truck. Meanwhile try and finish cutting the birch logs into firewood. - but not this week It's supposed to be real close to -40 in the next couple days & that doesn't sound like a time to play outside just for kicks.

Wow, winter sure has arrived in Northern Alberta!!!
-40 is just a tad more than a refreshing winter's day... I sure don't blame you for planning some inside activities!
It was great to see you use a Herman Neilson to warm your car, it brought back some great memories of using those heaters and tarps when working on machinery and boats. Oh the good ole days!
I believe your mill is electric? Great work on the design and build. I believe you used it to saw the lumber for your house? 3" planks, that is a unique thickness. I bet they made great side boards. It would sure help to make one hope the loader operator is careful...
We burn the slabs in the shop furnace, they are great for lighting the stove and getting some quick heat. We are donating the lumber to a local Christian High School for their shop program. We have been helping them out with lumber for over 20 years. It is amazing to see what the students have built; shelves, tables, assorted furniture, knick knacks, plaques, boxes, paddles, snowshoes, and even cedar strip canoes.
All the best Buddy, I bet there is more than one or two pieces of machinery in your area plugged in overnight!

John Deere 1840, we had one on our dairy farm back in the 80's and 90's. Identical to yours minus the roll bar and canopy top. 245 loader on it as well. Not very many day's it wasn't used here in New Brunswick.

      Greetings from Ontario,
Thanks for saying hello and sharing about your 1840, it was great to hear. I bet your tractor moved a lot of feed, cleaned a lot of pens, and pulled a lot of wagons... My family had a small farm that was once a small dairy farm and my wife's family on both sides were dairy farmers. In my opinion 1840's were and still are an awesome tractor. With the mfwd axle they were a huge step up from an 1830. And the 245 self leveling loader was and is a well designed loader by any standards. It makes me smile to think of how much work your tractor did. The previous owner of our tractor was also a dairy farmer. Thanks again for saying hello, I hope you are having a good winter in NB. As an aside, years ago my sister in-law lived in Fredericton and later in Dalhousie.

Hey Paul. Happy New Year to you too! Something about a sawmill, draws me in and love watching eheh. She's working good eh? Like your setup, no bending or stretching and those clamps lot better than mine. Looks more like fun! Like to see a closeup of that sometime bud. Homebuilt way to go for sure! Take care Paul.

      Hello Mac,
Your comments are always so encouraging, thanks so much. I can appreciate your interest in sawmills, I have had the same thing since a young age. Years ago ( in my much younger years) a neighbour had one powered by an old IHC on steel. It was always great fun to see him saw. I sure had a lot of fun building our mill, it's hard to believe it was well over 20 years ago. I am looking forward to getting back at the log pile in the near future, the smell of fresh sawdust gets in one's blood!
I will put together some info (maybe do a video) on the dogs for you.
As always, thanks for your comments.
      All the best Buddy!

Great job! Just finished milling some Southern Yellow Pine for a new barn project myself. Hope you bring us along when you put the new lumber to use! Stay warm!

Greetings from the land of the snow (finally...LOL). I once did some work for a Canadian machinery manufacturer (Tigercat). One of the engineers I worked with talked about the great value in, and of Southern Pine. I had actually never heard of it 'til then. I look forward to following along on your barn project.
We are donating the lumber in the video plus that from a few more logs (yet to saw) to a local high school for their shop program. We try and donate lumber (hardwood and softwood) to the school every year or so.
I hope firewood sales are good and your are having a great winter.
