    I discovered the Thoth some 30 years ago and it has taught me a lot. One practice that I recommend is to study the cards associated with each decan at the time of that decan. Right now (3rd decan of Leo), that would be Lust/Strength/Fortitude, the Knight of Disks, and the Seven of Wands. I keep a tarot calendar with cards from different decks, grouped around the Thoth and Tabula Mundi.
    I started doing this in 2017, and each year, I have discovered new layers of meaning. I also use this opportunity to meditate on the sephirah and world associated with the minor card (Netzach in Atziluth), and on the path for the major card (from Chessed to Gvura).
    Thoth truly is a never-ending story. I'm glad I found your channel!

    Thank you for your video recommending the best Thoth books in order to learn, research, or enhance one's knowledge on the Thoth tarot system, as well as on Aleister Crowley's outstanding work. I absolutely agree with you that the #1 and most important book is the enduring Book of Thoth, because it not only speaks to the reader on one's individual level, but also progresses it reflecting a lot one's self-awareness.

    Thank you so much for your insight. I am just beginning my Thoth journey almost inadvertently because I started the Decan walk this year through Marlene Teresa (UA-cam) which leads straight to the Tabula Mundi and straight to the Thoth. So thank you for your recommendations

    In my experience with the Thoth, a combination of being familiar with the Golden Dawn 'Book T' meanings and familiarity with basic astrology, go a long way to understanding the Thoth.
    I have 'read' the Book of Thoth - honestly I didn't get much from it. More useful was DuQuette's Understanding The Thoth Tarot which you mentioned. Also, the Thoth Companion by Snuffin.
    Ironically, the most helpful method of understanding the Thoth was using the Hermetic Tarot - a pure Golden Dawn deck. The Hermetic Tarot helped lots of factors click into place. The Hermetic demonstrates the Thoth Golden Dawn underpinnings very well without the extra elements that Crowley added.
    Understanding elemental dignities goes a long way to help using the Thoth. Once you have mastered elemental dignities, the 15 card Golden Dawn spread made much more sense and is now one of my favourite Thoth spreads.

      @jamesfeeney623  3 роки тому +1

      I love your take, and what's worked for you! Great point with the elemental dignities, I agree! The Hermetic Tarot is a great one, but I don't get on with it so well, perhaps I need to give that another go, many thanks for the valuable insights friend 😄✨✨

      The Hermetic Tarot changes the astrological correspondences and the imagery is blah. Crowley didn't intend to spoon feed definitions in his book, because he wanted people to come to their own definitions intuitively. Smart if you ask me, because your higher self/HGA knows better.
      Also Thelema is a different animal than Golden Dawn. Seems to me like you should stick with GD stuff.

    I just ordered my first Thoth Deck and the first 2 recommended books. I really appreciate this video. I'm highly excited because I'm 20 years into the Rider Waite Tarot deck and around 3 years into OSHO Zen Tarot, but I really wanted to take on this next level now. I'm also a regression hypnosis and NLP practitioner, Reiki, crystal healing - so I was really looking for that next level in tarot - very excited about this new path - now let's go watch your other videos!!! Much respect :)

    Thank you for this video, I added several books to my reading list! I started studying the Thoth recently. I’m not sure what I think about reading the tarot with so many correspondences, it’s something I haven’t felt inclined to do before, but I want to give it a try. And I think independent of whether I want to read with the deck, like you say, it’s so much more than just doing readings, so I think it is a really good deck to study to learn more about life and spirituality. And I just love the artwork 😊

    James, is it still possible to get something out of the Thoth tarot if one doesn't embrace a study of astrology or Qabbalah? I currently have little interest in either at this stage, but am hoping that I can get something out of the images. Also, are there any books that speak more in-depth about Lady Frieda Harris and her creative input?

    • @jamesfeeney623
      @jamesfeeney623  3 роки тому +1

      Yes! I apologize, I didn't mean to imply that so much study is required to work and find meaning in the Thoth. I think intuitive work with the images and mediation on the art could reveal quite a lot. Currently, I am not familiar with a book that speaks to Harris' work, but there may be one out there! A few of the books I mentioned include letters Harris and Crowley wrote to each other about the creation of the deck, from what I gather she was quite a creative force herself. Well wishes to you on your Thoth journey, I'd love to know how it goes 💚💚

      @@jamesfeeney623 Thanks for your response and your book suggestions. I felt I needed a lighter intro to the Thoth. Previously I had bought a larger copy of the deck which I fully trimmed after seeing a 'naked' walkthrough by Tarot Oracle and having it reveal the stunning qualities of the color art of Lady Frieda (I also wasn't fond of key words on the labels at that point), then I found a mini trimmed version on MPC that I also ordered. But I neglected to properly learn each of the cards prior to dispensing with the labels making some of them difficult to identify, so I needed to find an easy to read intro book with illustrations and interpretations. I just ordered and received 2 from Amazon and hope they will help me. One of them was in a $14 kit that was panned by reviewers because the cards were playing card size (which is actually preferable to me) and its book is penned by Evelin Burger & Johannes Fiebig who had written The Ultimate Guide To The Rider Waite Tarot, which dissects all the symbols illustrated in the RWS cards. It's an easy read book used by my Sunday Tarot Play Date group, so I am pretty sure it will help me get my toes wet with the Thoth, though I'm not certain about their approach. I also bought another illustrated book by Gerd Ziegler, Tarot, Mirror of the Soul, handbook for the Aleister Crowley Tarot. I don't expect either of these to be in-depth, but hope that both will intrigue me enough to explore more substantial works like those on your list later.

    Although I do like the Thoth deck..it's reading Tarot cards that I like. I found with the Thoth that I got drawn - like a tangent - more into a study of Mr Crowley and the Kaballa. The cards themselves started to take a back seat and deminish in importance.. overshadowed by all the other info.

    I really enjoyed your video and your thoughts on studying the Thoth Tarot. I added books to my TBR pile (lol). My first book that discussed the Thoth was The Tarot Handbook, Practical Applications of Ancient visual symbols, by Angeles Arrien. I still really enjoy her book.
    The I-Ching was the first divination system I studied, I got started by way of The Tao Te Ching and The Art of War. I just fell into it if that makes sense. Two of my favorite books, I use them together are, The Living I Ching, Using Ancient Chinese Wisdom to Shape Your Life by Deng Ming-Dao and I Ching The Tao of Drumming by Michael Drake. I have many different books on the I Ching that I compare and contrast to each other, but those are my personal favorites.
    Thanks so very much for sharing your knowledge and excitement of the Thoth with us.

    Such fortuitous timing that you uploaded this, seen as I have just bought the Thoth Tarot.
    I opted for Lon Milo Duquette as my brain has been mush lately and I just knew I wouldn't be able to deal with Crowley off the bat, and would then likely would have just given up. I do plan to pick up the Book of Thoth later in The year though.
