In this video I will show you how to make a Monte Cristo sandwich recipe. The recipe is easy to make and very tasty. Today I made this sandwich recipe for my family for breakfast and everyone said it was delicious. I hope you will like my recipe too. Don't miss a recipe! Monte Cristo Sandwich Recipe
Ingredients
3 slices white sandwich bread or any type of bread that you like and you have it.
2 slices of cooked ham
3 tablespoon grated gouda cheese, Any type of cheese, you can choose
2 eggs
3 teaspoons mayonnaise
5 tablespoons milk
A little salt to taste
1 tablespoon butter
Instructions
1. Cut out all 4 edges of the slices of bread.
2.Spread the mayonnaise onto all 3 slices of bread.
3.Place the shredded gouda cheese onto all 3 slices of bread.
4.Place 2 slices of cooked ham onto each slice of bread.
5.I use a cutting board to press lightly on the slices of bread, cheese and slices cooked ham. After that, turn them on top of the remaining bread.
6.Using the cutting board to gently press on the sandwich again.
7.Place 2 cups on the cutting board for about 3 to 4 minutes to make the sandwich flat.
8.In a bowl, crack in eggs, season with salt and spoon in the milk. Beat the ingredients until combined with a fork.
9.Soak the sandwich in the egg mixture.
10.In a flying pan, melt the butter on medium heat.
11.Once the butter has melted, place in the sandwich.
12.Grill the sandwich until golden brown on all sides for about 3 minutes per side.
13.Cut the Monte Cristo sandwich into triangles and serve immediately. Enjoy!

@@brianvisser5546 our language is close to that of he Netherlands. Where are you in the US? I was in Chicago for 6 months before the stupid lockdowns started. Fry the bacon first. Best to use pieces. Really delicious

When I first had a Monte Cristo in the 70's, it was made with a combination of ham, Turkey, gouda & swiss cheeses, & served with raspberry or strawberry jam..
Wow! That sounds better than this recipe. I think I'll try it, but I'll sprinkle on some confectioners' sugar like I've done before.

I use the thick french toast bread if it's available, leave the crust on, two slices of swiss cheese, two or more slices of ham and turkey. Baked on a grill . You don't need alot of butter to grill it. Served with strawberries, or berries of your choice. Dip the sandwich in the fruit after each bit. My first sandwich was in a small restaurant in lake Tahoe, called the post office in the late 80's or early 90s

I love the decadent way one of our local restaurants makes this sandwich! Very similar recipe as this one, but they deep fry the whole sandwich so it has a tempura-like breading, dust it with white powdered sugar and serve it with a side dip of warm raspberry preserves! Yummy!!!

Thanks for sharing that, Kristy. I was thinking the same thing. Powdered sugar but instead of mayo there would be a berry preserve on this inside. That's the way Bennigan's used to make them here in The States.

They use to have that exact sandwich at the Blue Bayou restaurant in The Pirates of the Caribbean. I loved it deep fried

Edges/crust of (real) bread are the best piece of it, cutting off is just "throwing away food" - okay, this is just "Toast" in Germany...it has no crust 😁

Incredibly delicious sandwich. I first had one many years ago and they were ALWAYS served with little sides of sour cream and strawberry jam. The sweet and salty takes this sandwich to a whole other level.....Thank you for a short,concise video!

I WILL NOT put sugar & jam in a meat & cheese sandwich.
The raspberry preserves with a sprinkle of powdered sugar on the sandwich absolutely makes it for me! Sounds strange, but once you try it you just can't have a monte Cristo without it
That looks so good. I just made a very similar sandwich but filled it with bacon, Swiss cheese, and used a bread I bake using Everything seasoning (Sesame seed, poppy seed, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt) which is basically called Everything loaf bread. It’s too good that cutting the crusts off would be a real shame. This video did give me some pointers in using butter to get that nice brown color and a little milk for the eggs.

One of my favorite sandwiches, which I haven't seen in any restaurant for years. I used to guess on hie to make it by cooking two pieces of French Toast and using ham and whatever cheese I had around (usually Swiss). Thanks for the video!
We use to have Bennigan's where I live and made the best Monti Cristo, but most of them shut down years ago. A couple of local restaurants make them but are horrible, till I found one 4 years ago and theirs comes close to Bennigan's so I'm happy again. 😂

I've had them at a restaurant with powdered sugar sprinkled on top & it was good that way.

Quick tip. Freeze the sandwich first for an hour. Then fry. It will hold its shape very well ❤

Back in the 50s and 60s when this sandwich was very popular restaurants would serve it with a small portion of jam or jelly. A little smeared on mad a lot of difference.

Made it. Yummy! My cheese didn't melt enough -- maybe because I used sliced not shreaded. I was expecting a grilled cheese flavour , but indeed it was in the French Toast camp. Broke out my rassberry preserves and YUM! Breakfasty.

To me…. What you made is a French toast sandwich. I worked at Disney World in the 1970’s. And they would serve these in the employee cafeteria. It was a sandwich made with cheese, ham, turkey. Dipped in batter, and deep fried. With powdered sugar on top. served with some kind of cherry jelly. So good! I wish I could make them like that.
