Match 1: 5:16
Match 2: 20:48
Match 3: 31:21
Match 4: 42:54
Match 5: 55:59
First opponent had to have just been blazed out their mind
Are you implying that someone named Magicmann420 would ever smoke the Devil's Lettuce?
@@Jandau85 Good sir, I am implying that perhaps they were simply reviewing their Scriptures studies and emulating Moses, and consulting the Burning Bush and we're distracted enough to punt the match
"why is he main phasing his collected companies"
Hey, stupid people are allowed to play Magic too, you know.
Many still claim the stop is still set on Seth's draw step to this day
Hahah
Seth: *Punts occasionally*
Opponents playing against Dubious Challenge: Hold my beer
Seth: let’s dubious challenge our opponents
Opponents: let’s dubiously give Seth wins because we don’t understand the card.
I guess they thought challenge revealed 2 cards for Seth to add in hand, nobody expect them straight to the battlefield!
Nice Zacama you have there...
You don't have Zacama in your deck, only Zetalpa!
That was the wrong giant dinosaur!
Zacama, Zetalpa. These dinosaur names...
@@MTGGoldfish potato tomato
@@jebooiii6462 these vegetable names :-D
Is the interface that bad that everyone seems to take nothing off of dubious challenge?
nop, they just dont read the cards and press ok.
Anyone else just over here living vicariously through the pummeler player that just said "screw it" and punched the wurm?
Take a shot every time Seth calls Zetalpa Zacama
Bant spirits playing lumbering falls tilted me. Edit: ok everything they did hurt my head lol.
@@dirty_mac when you have like 6 one drops probably not ideal
Magicmann420 punting? Gee I wonder why ;)
Honestly, the most egregious thing about the list is calling it bant at all. It literally only splashes green for Coco (with most lists running 12 shock lands + the 4 Green Fast lands that can tap for green), everything else is UW spirits. I'd rather it be called Spirits Company for the pioneer version, Modern at the very least has around 33% of its non-land cards be green, and it being called bant spirits makes sense.
I watch many of these videos and the concept of this deck has and your play-style/opponent's lack of knowledge have brought much enjoyment as I watch this one! Thanks for the original and enjoyable content, Seth!!! Some of my favorite on UA-cam!
Lol, match 1 game 1 the opponent must have been thinking, "Why the heck am I playing Coco when I could be cheating out fatties for the same cost?"
Although as I'm watching it just appears they don't know MODO very well or might be pretty new in general.
Some of his choices were pretty dubious.
"Magicmann420"
You know, I think there might be another potential explanation for those plays
@@ShiningSpear my thoughts exactly
I think they were new. Probably trying out a friends account.
Na I was just pretty hi and playing after an all nighter I didn't even read his cards lol but it's coo it was just a. 2 player quene for practice no one plays the deck in a real tournament but I punted like crazy and still won a game so it was fun 😁
Seth: dramoka is good against control.
Also seth: *is confused why they didn't try to counter the uncounterable dragon*
SloaTheDemon lol
For some reason I was thinking it just kept you opponent from casting spells on your turn, but it's uncounterable too!
Hey Seth, quarantine days have been rough, thanks for keep uploading videos
Glad they are helpful :) Stay well!
New idea for a series:
Combine all the titles of your series.
Against the Budget about Nothing.
Its expensive decks that don't do much.
Every single proxy EDH match then
Seth, please listen to this viewer!
Tha k you for your videos right now. My world is turned upside down right now and it is nice to have some mtg to watch. Thank you
The play from your first opponent was highly...dubious.
Next level flavor.
I remember your first dubious challenge list. When I was playing modern humans someone cast glimmer point stag and I them predicted them with meddling mage on dubious challenge later on the messaged me about it. It was great
Ethan Rasmussen heh. Very cool
1:04:45 Why not pick two charming princes? Also, in other games, why not seal away during combat, after attacks have been declared, to prevent the damage?
The seal away is probably because he's hoping that the opponent will play something in second main and not hold up mana for a counterspell.
Scott Crawford For some of the games, and times, I get that. But against the energy deck?
Getting 2 princes is not so bad for the 4 mana investment
Confusing that silly flappy bird Zetalpa for the almighty ZACAMA(!). SMH
LOL
I like how you're freaking out about having two princes in your hand because that'll make it less likely that you hit them with dubious challenge...
But there's no reason you can't just play the princes _after_ the dubious challenge. Just casually take the 15 and you're fine.
Though if you had wanted to be safe. There was that point where you could have played the two princes then you can do a prince bounce combo where you have one prince exile the other prince which will then exile the other prince which will then exile the other prince basically giving you the option to have a prince trigger at the end of every turn. then when you cast dubious challenge it doesn't matter if you wiff because no matter what they take the prince comes back.
What a coward.
One, two, princes held before you
That's what I said, now
Princes, Princes who scry for you
Just go ahead, now
One has Worldspine in his pockets
That's some Wurm, now
This one, said he wants to bounce Dromokas
Ain't in his head, now
The seth numeric system:
1, 17, a million, infinite
Atmapalazzo best Seth comment of the month.
I like how honest you are about your opinion of the deck. You're such a good commentator :D
Thanks :)
I could easily see Ikoria printing a devastating big baddie for this deck
Seems very possible.
I have been brewing some really fun jank with Dubious Challenge and Homeward Path. Works pretty well!
The commentary during the Bant Spirits match is hilarious.
So fun. We need the non-budget version of this now
Call me crazy, but I can definitely see some version of Dubious Challenge becoming an upper tier deck
Ngl, when I saw Dubious Challenge in the title I defaulted to thinking it was an Against the Odds deck until I opened up the vid
I feel like MTGO is broken here because the card says, “Opponents chooses a creature, the rest go under your control”. So how are you getting both creatures of the opponent is supposed to choose one specifically for their control? Edit: after seeing a few opponents actually get their creature, I realize it’s not broken. How the hell do you screw that up? Lol
actually trying to put a dubious challenge deck together. looks super fun!
Everytime you make a dubious challenge deck i dont know why I just get as giddy as a school girl 😂
You could try Rhonas the Indomitable as your Ferocious enabling 3 drop. Gives you a bit more game if you're drawing all your dorks and no Challenges or Unwrittens too.
What dose the prompt from the dubious challenge trigger look like? How can someone get it so wrong and just give you both?
I'm pretty sure you just get a pop up with two creatures and you click on the one you want. It's actually pretty easy :)
That first opponent had some... interesting game plans.
I clicked as soon as I saw the name of one of my favorite weird cards: dubious challenge
Lol, surprised you haven't tried a inspiring statuary deck yet
Ohh, we should do that.
@@MTGGoldfish totally, there's so much you can use you can even use Fay if wishes and pull it from the sideboard or use Karn you could play eldrazi and started dropping ulamog Turn 5 lol
Match 5 Game 1 had Seth looking like Druid Tribal
I'm a simple man: I see Dubious Challenge, I press Like
Yaaay more dubious challenge!
What would you change for a non budget build of this? Temple gardens and better creatures?
Note that trostani yoinks herself back
At 1:04:30 you chose Elf Elf instead of Prince Prince. Doesn't Prince Prince mean you end up with two princes and a scry 2? Is that not better than both of you getting an elf? Great deck, though. I am definitely playing Dubious Challenge in both Modern and Pioneer now thanks to your videos!
The art is so on point
Homeward path is a great land for this deck
Not legal for Pioneer
Nvm, not modern of pioneer legal
Yeah, if it was legal it would be sweet!
30:00 I don't see a Zecama in the deck list do you mean zetalpa?
Z-E-T-A-L-P-A!
Zacama is a whole different lizard xD
Game 1 if why I hate magic sometime. Opponent playing terribly not reading a single card doing everything wrong. Still manages to win...
I feel like that's the first time I have seen the Bant spirits deck not have the Spell Queller. And not even any of the times.
I feel like there's a secret rule by WotC that says bant spirits can play 12 copies of queller.
Would you consider shock and checklands instead of the non basic you use an upgrade overall?
I'm curious what the upgraded version would look like. I loved dub challenge in modern, and it looks even better in here where there is a bit less broken shit to mess up it's day.
Maybe Fabled Passages, some shocks? Maybe Gilded Goose? Or Sylvan Caryatids, those are like 7 dollars a pop. In a deck like this it might be better to just go with beefier blockers because resolving a threat overwhelms them and eliminates the need for chip damage to kill most of the time.
Mostly you get better mana and some upgraded finishers (like Emrakul the Promised End and Ulamog the Ceaseless Hunger).
Hey Seth! On the last game, could you not have used princes to reset the counters on the big things? this for sure wins more time than double elves!
No he cant. Prince is weird because of it saying "creature you own" instead or "creature you control" allowing it to work with dubious challenge, but you otherwise cant target opponents stuff with it, just creatures you "own"
Also, would you say this has an edges over GR rhythm monsters? Having playing challenge in pioneer I can say it is a lot riskier
Seth, if you were to make this not budget, what would you change/upgrade?
23:18 Beard-Scratching ASMR
Would gideon of the trials be a good sodeboard option, its on curve and shutsdown unfair combos
I've been playing Gideon's Intervention in the sideboard slot to fight unfair decks, but Gideon of the Trials is good there too.
Looks like i have a new favourite Pioneer Deck xD when do you play a nonbudget Version for a League?
I'm down with playing it some more (with upgrades), I think it's actually pretty decent.
What would you change for the nonbudget version? Better Eldrazi?
Seth, am I wrong in thinking that the "double Charming Prince" scenarios were still not bad? Since u would have gotten both anyway? It was an option both times I saw you wiff and it did not seem to be on your radar. asking for a friend. I don't have friends rn btw.
thanks
thanks
Zetalpa is very different from Zacama, Seth we love you
LETS GO DUBIOUS CHALLENGE
I was in an 8-man draft pod that had 5 dubious challenges in it. Very, very odd
Maybe the boosters were mapped
I get so sad that my boy Zetalpa doesn't get the respect he deserves..."a strong lizard?? Must be Zacama, I will call it Zacama just in case "
41:50 Is it possible to gift play points? Could opponent give 5 play points just to throw you off?
If Oracle gets banned, this might be a tier 2 deck. Maybe tier 1
Okay.. Why did you wait to take the dmg before using the seal away? Why not just use it on attack before blockers are announced so you're not taking the dmg..
I think the mindset was to hope the opponent tapped out in second main phase to guarantee that the seal away resolves
Yeah, that was the main hope.
Opponent game one was probably thinking “dubious challenge is basically just a better, sorcery speed CoCo...”
What would the non-budget version of the deck look like? Just a better manabase or some other changes aswell?
Take a look at the description 😉
There's a list in the article. It's mostly better mana, some different finishers (like an Emrakul and an Ulamog) and some sideboard changes. www.mtggoldfish.com/articles/budget-magic-dubious-challenge-pioneer
I'm new to mtg so sorry if it is a stupid question. If my oponent choses a creature to summon and one is left for me, he does summon it first. Does the effect of the creature putted in the battlefield (when summoning does this or that) resolve before i summon my creature, or i summon right away putting the effects on a stack causing my creature effect to come first?
Both creatures enter the battlefield at the same time. That’s why Charming Prince can flicker the creature the opponent takes.
Was that Bant Spirits player also drinking spirits?
Seth I have a jund build of See the Unwritten with DL Kolhagan and Atarka world render to 24 an opponent the turn you cast See the Unwritten. If you'd like a look.
Nice! Do you have a list?
@@MTGGoldfish List currently is kinda jank as I don't frequently build non commander decks but I figured playing the thoughtsize kill your stuff plan was better than the lanowar elves plan.
Anyway here is the list: www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/2846713#paper
For Modern? You mean Pioneer right Seth?
Am I the only one that is mad Wizards made Zetalpa and the blue one "dinosaur" type when the animals they are based on are not dinosaurs?
Anyone else watch seth at 2 times speed while drinking vodka? Corona is also eggceptable
No! Stay away from the Corona! Wash your hands, and don’t talk to anyone! Oh, and I prefer 1.75 with my vodka.

ZEEEETAAAALPAAAAA
I wonder if it's possible to play this type of deck in commander. Just make friends with someone and let them hold on to your creatures until it's down to 2v2 and then just taking it all back.
Just run Trostani as your commander, and Dubious Challenge all day erryday
It's a lot harder in Commander just because you only have one copy of Dubious Challenge, so your odds of drawing it aren't that high. Dubious Challenge probably is good if Trostani is your Commander though.
Jeez those 2 first opponents were........im sure they tried their best
How would you update this without a budget and with new cards?
Shocklands, better/more efficient dubious challenge targets (maybe emrakul/ulamog), better sideboard and manabase.
Opponents are dubiously challenged 😂
why no eldrazi displacer?
good video men!
Thanks :)
magicman420 was probably just really high
That would explain some of the choices :)
54:12 Those aren't houses those are cathedrals. 15/15

Dubious opponent...
I shifted the likes from 420 to 421. I'M SORRY SETH!

@@TheQueerLeaf99 ?????... ?!
Asshole
This deck seems busted until the opponents read what dubious challenge actually does.
Zetalpa Seth not zacama. Silly seth
Seth. Zetalpa. NOT Zecama. Different Dino
"Zacama"
Zetalpa no zacama
Fun
I came to watch Pioneer, his boards say not quite modern.
Ze-tal-pa
ZEPLALTA NOT ZECAMA you have disrespected my son Seth, he is best massive random beater
Outside of magic zero is not even, so it needs to be specified.

ZELTAPA, ZELTAPA, NOT ZACAMA, ZELTAPA
It’s Zetalpa, I’m only correcting you since you’ve now set your autocorrect incorrectly if you’re on mobile. But I agree with the sentiment, COME ON, SETH!
Eventually your gonna have to stop saying "better known as saffronolive"
To be fair, he says "probably better known as" which means it isn't necessarily true
Heh
Didn't he try that once? The comments had a fit.
Reading cards is too hard.
