I broke down in tears when I heard my auntie's voice (Lora Mumford) I haven't heard her voice in 10 years since she passed away. She is the reason for my passion for music.

@@Yo_DynamoJoe Probably a lot of them. He didn't seem like a buzzkill to me, he just seemed chilled out, and a little sad when talking about his awesome band that fell apart before they really got started. You thought rock musicians are supposed to be peppy?
What if... the future you has already finished the time train and have already taken all of your UA-cam friends back in time for the concerts. Thats why no one remembers the show. Because all the attendees were from the future. And the future is us. Whoa.
Still working on my chronological displacement device. Can only get it to function at a velocity of 88mph, which is odd given its hot tub design. I don't want another morlock incident.
It's not often a band is too successful for its own good. They fell apart because they were too talented to just be the novelty act Disney wanted them to be, and that's a tragedy.
I was a boy then, and I was from there , it's only an accident that I wasn't at Disneyland on a day when this happened. This documentary makes me emotional! This was true and serious Art . for commercial purpose or otherwise.
I was interviewed for this documentary, and it was a lot of fun. Happy face. But to see what this video turned into is wonderful and heartbreaking at the same time. I was there, kids, and I still didn't know the whole story. So, thank you, Matthew, for the devoted work. Thank you. (And hello to everyone else in the documentary. I miss you! Especially you, Lora Mumford.) -Jymn Magon-
I agree. It's such a bittersweet keepsake. It's such an iconic and definitive icon of Halyx. Yet at the same time, its existence represents Lora's inability to move on; she held on to that jacket because she never let go of the dream of Halyx coming back.
Defunctland: Making you happy about something cool, and then reminding you that the job is then to tell you its all gone, because Kevin Perjurer is a monster
The fun thing to see from this is how teenagers and fans have always been teenagers and fans, which I know is a basic statement but it really made me giddy to see it documented here. The Die Hards in the front row of every show, dancing to support the band even though the venue didn't allow it. How it was the fans who made the merchandise and gave them as gifts (and I can only imagine that was more difficult to do in the 80's.) The fans coming up with lore and backstories for the band mates, how the lead guitarist of course was a heartthrob but you still had people go crazy over the big burly dude in a fur suit. These sweet, simple, human moments that connect us through the decades
So true at Disneyland during that era. Any male guest with long hair was looked on as a subversive, and even if they didnt have a plainclothes security host shadowing them, they would at the least be scrutinized by most security guards they passed during their visit.
The hand gesture the fans made up was really touching. And the headbanging in the seats! There's something about musicians and stage performers that knowingly perform for children/young adults that always make me happy. Like maybe they're going through the motions in a hot wookie suit, but they also must know that they're inspiring as well as entertaining. It must have been rewarding to think back on, as they got older, and watched kids in their own lives grow up.
@@daweeje6146 I peeked at your profile and it seems you're most likely not being metaphorical in some way and in fact, are serious. so kudos to you for penning such a wonder!! hats off to you, my friend!
@@kalebbranscome2062 watch out, though!-- cross your eyes enough times and eventually they'll get stuck like that!!! (or so the prototypical mother always says...)
This is the case of a band that is legitimately before its time. Today, they'd 100% be signed to someone like Napalm Records. You got bands like Alestorm, Sabaton, Gloryhammer, Powerwolf, and that's just from them. The age of niche, themed bands is well and truly upon us, and these guys were doing it before it was possible to be successful. They'd 100% be successful today.
it's a different world today. Today they would simply pump out videos on UA-cam and have a world wide following. You almost don't need record companies anymore if you are good enough.
Oh absolutely. They're kind of like the Mechanisms, who also all have characters and do show in costumes. Indie or as a Disney venture, the in-universe Halyx members would all have their own names and backstories
NO WAY...SCREW NETFLIX, HULU & YES...EVEN Disney+, They Are The Reasons This Was Silenced. FOR PEOPLE, BY PEOPLE!! THIS SHOULD BE A Network TV Documentary For EVERYONE To💗, Share & ENJOY!!
Most acts like this would just mime instrumentation and singing, but these people were the real deal. They could've toured and made a bundle and gotten a following. Hell, they had an organic fanclub form right there during that one brief summer.
Disney never listens to the people. Whoever heard of a successful band get dropped after studio recording no less? Shame on you Disney and Warner Bros.
Just the idea alone of, as Scott Gairdner says "Star Wars Kiss", with a vocalist that sounds like Ann Wilson of Heart. In 1981 that would have been a combination of some of the biggest things in entertainment at the time. How they weren't immediately put into production and heavily promoted is beyond me. Even if they didn't want to commit to a series an animated TV special with live action performance inserts should have been a no brainer for Disney.
Gonna be honest, when they mentioned that Lora had died, I got a bit teary eyed even though I hadn't even heard of her until today. May she rest in peace.
I saw the band on stage many times in 1981, and I just assumed that Lora went on to perform with other bands over the years. Until I watched the documentary, I had no idea she passed 11 years ago. She had great talent and left way too soon. Rest in peace.
Yeah man, I was worrying the whole time cause she was only talked about in pasttence and Bambi mentioned her autograph very somberly. Then when her ex husband showed up I realized that was his first appearance here and held out hope that she'd just be interviewed last, but nope. At least she's living on this way, I only heard of the group through this video and I've was more invested than I've ever been of any other huge mainstream musical group ever lol
I (and I stress this) CAN NOT believe this is free. Just... wow. Easily the best documentary I've seen in a while. I never heard of Halyx before this, and this took me on a whole ride of emotions.
It’s so sad Laura passed away, and that this band didn’t go places. I loved watching the videos of them performing. It has such a brilliant energy, I just hope Lora can rest in peace knowing loads and loads of people have seen this video and we absolutely love her voice and their music.
I... I don't even know what to say about this. The amount of history in this little one summer show. The fact that something so spectacularly weird was actually just spectacular. The fact that the bizarre concept actually WORKED and was about to expand but fell apart because of corporate workings that had nothing to do with them. The fact that this is really a full documentary on the same level as Behind The Music. The fact that the songs actually slap. I just don't know what to say besides bravo, Kevin and Matthew.
You have no idea how happy I am to see this. I was working at Disneyland when Halyx was there and probably saw 75% or more of their shows. When we ran into the band members backstage they were always so nice. Would kill for a good audio recording of Jailbait. By the end of that summer THAT was the song we all wanted to here and they knew it!
Dude I can't believe I watched this for free. I was waiting throughout the whole thing.. hoping that Lora would show up as an interviewee, halfway through I understood why she hadn't, but it was still such a gut punch to hear she'd died. Wish these guys could've made it. It seems like they had real passion for what they did.
The further into the doc you get the more you are aware of the fact that they haven't spoken to Lora yet. Then you get to the red jacket. I'm not crying I swear ; _ ;
If Disney tried something like this again today, with the right angle, they could have an army of loyal theater kids dissecting the lore on Tumblr & falling all over themselves in the parks trying to catch the eye of their favorite band member.
@@Champiness The sad thing is that I can already work out a backstory for them as a group who travel the stars performing and getting into adventures. The guitarist is the dashing space hero, the singer is a space princess who ran away from home to be a rock star, the drummer is the plucky sidekick, then you've got the brutish bass player, the alien percussionist, and the robot keyboard player with his holographic backup singers. It basically writes itself!
I'm so bummed that no one liked the name though. Halyx is a kickass name. And I'm so bummed I never got to experience them. They would have been exactly my jam. Lora was INCREDIBLE. What an actual goddess. I bet it was life-changing for so many girls in the audience to see a woman front a cool galactic rock band.
Me too--wept over that jacket in the locker. Never got a chance to meet her...so badly wish I had! But her version of Jailbait has become my favorite. She was terrific!
I'm not gonna lie, when the Wookie bassist put his bass on the ground and starts mashing it with his paws, I had my mind blown. 😂 How could you not be into that show as a spectator?
Shout out to the original fangirl/boys who made their own fandom merch....these are the original deviant art/etsy creators. We love you all and honor you. Disney you gotta treat your talent better...first Annette, then Lora and after the MMC kids of the 90's. Stop treating your talent like disposable trash.
The fact that the only piece of the band left is one that Laura decided to keep and pass on is SO heartbreaking. This was an amazing documentary, thank you.
I'm surprised modern Disney hasn't called her niece and said, 'Hey, that jacket's the property of the Walt Disney Company, we're going to need that back."
@@michaelmeyer2460Disney only cares about if something is going to make them money. Halyx (at this current time) isn't marketable for them. Plus, at this point, the copyright has long expired and they likely haven't renewed it, which means they don't own the rights to Lara's image on the coat anymore.
It feels appropriate that the last vestige is lora’s jacket. I hope it stays with their family forever. It wish we could go see them live. it is utterly brilliant. I wish even more Lora could see how many people love their music and everything they did.
Yeah, the family deserves to have anything that belongs to her. It sucks when execs and money hungry people throw themselves into people’s lives like that. She worked for that, not the c.e.o.’s
This is a perfect example of excellent long-form content that simply would never get made without youtube as a platform. The ability of niche content to find its audience here is incredible.
youtube has *nothing* to do with this documentary. youtube would sooner actively prevent a creative endeavor like this from happening if it suited them.
45:46 I love how they were like "we were not expecting the wookiee to have sex apeal" and it's like... this was a decade before Beauty and the Beast came out, so they wouldn't _know,_ but escentially that's just _Beast with a Bass Guitar._ Of COURSE girls would love it.
I know right?? I got to that part of the video and just thought, "wow....I wonder how many girls had their first furry awakening because of this band?" Who wouldn't love a giant, sick ass bass playing wookie?
Oh man seeing all the ah... fanart of Glam Rock Freddy and seeing the Halyx wookie I'm like, okay furry love has been around.... much longer than I thought it had lol.
tow it wood be cool if the rest of the band get together and with a new lead (Lexi Snow) would record a album i wood love to hear Jailbait in full flac detail
I thoroughly believe in my heart that Halyx could've succeeded and made it big. The talent was there, the passion and creativity was wild, and it had clearly created a dedicated fanbase (that persisted to this day) and the fact that new fans are coming after just discovering the CONCEPT proves that there was a winning formula. I think Halyx didn't grow because not enough marketing was put into it. Most record labels REFUSED to believe it, Disney barely brought any attention to it and wanted it gone once the summer was over because it didnt fit thier branding. This band didn't fail because of the concept, it's people or even because of bad luck. It only failed because wasn't given the support it needed to grow
Honestly, they have Star Wars land now, they could make this into a fully licensed Star Wars hair metal band and even use it to expand the lore of Star Wars, there’s already two fan bases to pull from, it would draw on the nostalgia train that’s still in full swing, there’s so much talent out there, if they wanted to bank on this, they absolutely could and it would likely succeed.
It's stunning that I haven't heard of Halyx until seeing this video. Just, an absolutely priceless showcase of pure 80s rock n roll, laser rock shows, dudes with long hair, fawning over Star Wars, and so on, topped with a brutal story of a band that should've made it. That cover of Hey There Boys is absolutely chilling. This really is the sorta thing Defunctland is all about- sure, Halyx might not be most important piece of Disney history, but to think I never would've known it existed if not for this. Once again, you push the envelope and raise the bar for the quality that content like this can reach, Kevin.
This documentary is the kind of thing you watch at 3 in the morning when you have insomnia, then the next morning when you wake up you wonder if the whole thing was just a weird dream you had.
I got this in the recommended today and I'm staring at the credits roll still thinking about the kids in the front row show after show, dancing in their seats, making 'H' for Halyx with their hands and proudly showing off their homemade merch to the band members. like thats the sweetest thing I've heard in a long time and now theres a small dedicated fanbase to the resurgence of Halyx and the emotional suckerpunch that everyone from the band except Lora got to see it got me down bad.
I remember my dad drawing designs for this band. I had a T-Shirt, but I was only 11 and a giant Kiss fan. I've asked about this band over the years. It's good to know what ultimately happened to them. Sad to hear about Lora's passing.
But then if this is the quality content that we watch instead of stuff like the paul Brothers then we can possibly make them have to actually try to be creative
This towards the end got emotional, and I didn't even know about this band until your documentary ....... I miss halyx and I wasn't even a part of it. This band LITERALLY had everything I enjoy in a band ...it's a shame there isn't a album or something that you could have purchased Like they sounded amazing
You continue to astound me with your videos! I had no idea such a project ever existed at Disney, and you've made me want so much more of this band! Phenomenal work!
To me- the sign of a great documentary is getting the viewer to care about something they didn’t care about or maybe even know about before viewing. Mission accomplished: this is a great documentary.
They do great work here. I don't know why I never watched this before but having watched the American Idol at MGM Studio piece yesterday. I figured give this a whirl. Never cared for American Idol, never watched it, ect. But I was drawn into that video. Best example is his documentary on Theme Park Rides Lines. I mean who would have thought that an almost 1 hr 45 on theme park lines would be interesting. I've watched/listened to that one on more than one occasion.
I turned this on expecting it to be a fun romp through forgotten theme park history, I ended up crying at this wonderfully touching and brilliant portrait of the entertainment that keeps these parks alive. The Podcast: The Ride reveal in the fifth act had me cheering and by the end I was in tears. They've done it again, and I'm so proud to be a backer of this brilliant project.
I really feel for Laura. This whole saga definitely appears to have played with her head. Disappearing out of nowhere, then bailing on her husband, cutting contact with her friends then passing in Colorado years later with no-one close to her during the Disney period aware of it. Once again Disney doesn't know what to do with a great concept. And as soon as record labels get involved, you know things are going to get fucked.
"Disney doesn't know what to do with a great concept." Or a great IP. They totally destroyed Star Wars and drove away the fans in favor of their toxic woke ideology.
They wanted a company other than Disney as their label, but you'd think that, after seeing how popular they were, Disney would have been THRILLED to produce their first record, at least. Maybe even bring them back again the next summer before their careers launched.
WOW! A blast from the past! I saw Halyx several times in 1981. First was by mistake coming out of Space Mountain with my brother. I was 15 and my brother was 13. We grew up as Kiss fans and when we saw Halyx, we loved them. Went back for as many shows as we could. It was honestly, my first "concert". The crowds were crazy and they had a legit fan base. I thought everyone had forgot about this band. So bummed to hear about Lora. Thank you for making the video and for bringing back some great memories.
I had never heard of HALYX. As rock documentaries go, this one was distinctive regarding the warm feelings had by those who lived it so long ago. This documentary held my attention for the story as much as the music. Lora Mumford's jacket was the perfect imagery for what was once and is no longer, except in memories. It was only one summer, but thanks to this documentary more of us now know about that talent that was together for one summer.
further proving that I can't watch a Defunctland Docu without crying my eyes out. What absolute legends. RIP Laura, its decades too late but you are a star
This is an absolutely incredible documentary, massive props to everyone involved! I had no idea about this band before watching it so I couldn't be more thankful for sharing it with the world, couldn't hold back the tears when it was shown Lora's jacket has survived to this day, wish things could've turned out better for the band but it's good to see it'll live on in the minds of many across the globe.
The performances looked amazing, how lucky were those select few that were able to experience it. What a shame that something this great just disappeared because some people refused to give them a chance.
I actually did briefly forget I was watching this on UA-cam and thought I was watching it on Netflix, but I've come to expect this kind of superior quality from Defunctland.
These musicians did something a lot of others would have turned their noses up at. They owned it, they ROCKED it, and they made it something REAL, something special. Disney back then wasn't ready for it. It would go over much better with today's Disney parks. Such a shame there isn't a full album, or a complete concert on video.
38 years ago I went to Disneyland with my family at 5 years old for the first time. My objective was to see Halyx after being blown away seeing a commercial with some kind of white Chewbacca playing a guitar and to ask Snow White to marry me. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see Halyx and was super disappointed I could not find Snow White anywhere that day. It ended up being bittersweet since I missed my chance but still had fun on the rides and had been to Disneyland many times since. Cut to now I think the Halyx commercial and concept was a possible dream. Even mentioned seeing a Disney commercial with a dude dressed up like a yeti and a guitar to my wife recently who thought I was nuts. This documentary shows up randomly in my feed now and is more than I could have asked for. Thank you so much for helping to achieve a 38 year mission!
absolutely ugly sobbed as the "hey there boys" cover came in at the end. i have so many feelings about this glam rock space band i can't even put into words right now. thank you so much for these 90 minutes to stand as a commemoration of what was and will never be.
I would love to see a Halyx series following their adventures as a space-faring rock band. That would be amazing. Especially if it maintained a lot of those 70s sci-fantasy aesthetics.
@@MandalorV7 I normally roll my eyes at that kind of brand integration nonsense...but if it gave Halyx a second chance in the spotlight, I'd be all for it.
@@spacecat7247 How they fucked up Star Wars. They need to replace whoever gives such dumb advice in management. Even if it's the share owners owners. Disney is too big and sacrifices substance for forgettable crap that sells nothing in the end and loses money.
I've been following Defunctland since those early days of Kevin using the voice modulator and I am constantly so impressed by what the channel has become. I'm always rewatching the vids instead of watching new content from other channels and I can quote something from many episodes. I was crying at the Jim Henson funeral episode of DefuncTV last year and here I am crying over this Disneyland band I know nothing about. You and Matthew and the rest of this production team created a beautiful documentary! And this "Hey There Boys" cover is also perfect. Definitely something I'd keep on repeat a whole damn lot. Watch me do that lmfao.
Your documentaries always hit a spot in my heart. I’ve never heard of Halyx, yet this moved me in a way I didn’t expect. Keep doing what you’re doing, it really impact people more than you know 💜
Listening to "Hey there boys" I'm caught by the line: "No one cares how you struggle after the lights go out." Looking at what happened to poor Lora, it seems tragically poignant. All the more tragic that she was considered _the one_ the record companies wanted, the one with the "star potential" and she did nothing else with it. I think her heart was broken when that deal fell through. And it speaks to how powerful those emotions of heartache or heart break, depression or despair can be. As somebody who's suffered myself with depression and anxiety I was profoundly effected by what happened to her, I wish she could have seen that people loved her work or that somebody could have plucked her out of that black morass to help her try again or at the very least that we could somehow give her a hug. I'd never heard of them before, but hearing that song I can't help but think "this sounds pretty cool" and I can understand why people love them and the potential they had to "be a thing". Maybe nothing would have come of it but they did deserve their shot and at the least if the album had published it would have served as a _literal_ record of their existence. Lora's talent going to waste in particular is a real tragedy. I wish the people that could have helped her would have checked in on her more, that she had gotten more support. I get a real sense from Gary that he wishes he would have. There's no telling what if anything they could have done for her and it changes nothing that I do wish it but I wish it all the same and on that note if you know somebody who's having a rough time of things, maybe check up on them eh? Maybe you won't be able to do anything for them, and I know you're probably busy but I think we're probably all guilty of getting caught up in our own lives and forgetting people exist sometimes. Maybe that's just me searching for something good to make of a sad story. If you made it this far, thanks for putting up with me this long and reading my rant. I hope you have a good rest of your day, myself I'm sad now. But you know, I'm still glad that I watched this and that I got to learn about these people, the work they put in, what they did, what they tried to do and what they almost pulled off. I'm glad this documentary exists, because at the very least it helps to pull all of this out of obscurity.
im sorry to hear ur terrible and tragic your going though when i see that happen to good people who has so much effort to do this it breaks me cause it all gone they put so much in to it then disney give to CRAPS this why disney need to reevaluate there music and the actor it sadden that good people move aside just for nothing it seen more in the area of actors and actress and music just not cool for the people WHO ARE MOVE ASIDE disney suck in so many ways
I'm glad you wrote this - this was exactly what I said and how I felt after watching this. This one thing ruined a part of her life and so tragic she isn't around to know how much her voice was appreciated. She died most likely regretting that whole experience, feeling it was all for nothing and feeling like she missed her chance to make it big. If she'd had someone to talk to at that time, to get her through the depression, maybe she would have seen that she didn't need to run away. At least it seems she was happy back with her family till the end.
As much as I am not a fan of the current Disney culture, I absolutely love how hard these guys pushed against the Disney norm at the time to do something new. That's the true spirit of metal.
Jymn Magon, I had ALL those little records back in the day when I was a tiny child. That started my crippling record collection addiction, so ... thank you? Or CURSE you! (I'm still figuring it out.)

I started this while at work. I thought it would just be some background noise but nope. I paused it, this deserved big screen justice. Made my kids and husband give up the living room TV just to get the full experience. Phenomenal job. I hope everyone part of Halyx know that despite it being many years ago, they now have many new fans.
"In second grade I would trace pictures of Donald Duck and pretend that I drew them and sell them to my friends." This guy and Disney were a match made in heaven.
I pride myself on knowing a hell of a lot about Disney history and I'd never heard of Halyx. I love their sound and the fact that Disney actually auditioned for people to create a real band that wrote their own music and not just a cover band to cover current pop songs (like they do nowadays). I'm stuck on learning that a fantastic lead singer that I would want to find the rest of her work passed after never really pursuing music much further. She was such a talent with a fantastic presence and I'm sad to see nothing else come from it.

@@kaelynkelly-colon7170 Happens more than you think. Very tragic and a waste of talent not exposed to the world where it belongs. Just imagine if resources were more accessible to unsung talent. The true unsung talents are where accessible is inaccessible nor green lit and organized.

awe, this is so sad. I think, what hurts me the most, is that they didn’t realize it was over until it was too late. imagine how memorable their last show would have been if they had known it was to actually be their last show.
THIS is what the documentary genre exists for! Can you imagine just how many people would have been those kids who kept coming back to the shows if it were now? How big the band would be? These guys truly created a one time magical event that absolutely cannot be recreated, and now it's been documented for all to see. Now everyone gets to experience what these people worked so hard to create. Absolutely phenomenal.
Lora's fade is so heartbreaking. Seeing her going from near stardom to a waitress job. When the part about her passing away came up, I teared up. In another world, they could've been stars. Thank you so much for your excellent work, Kevin and everyone involved in this fantastic documentary.
This is such a deep cut love letter to Disneyland's experimental nature in the late 1970's and early 1980's. Bravo to all involved! My immediate thought: I need to hear HALYX on Guardians of the Galaxy:Mission Breakout. P.S. This is Academy Award worthy.

It's not often a band is too successful for its own good. They fell apart because they were too talented to just be the novelty act Disney wanted them to be, and that's a tragedy.

I agree. It's such a bittersweet keepsake. It's such an iconic and definitive icon of Halyx. Yet at the same time, its existence represents Lora's inability to move on; she held on to that jacket because she never let go of the dream of Halyx coming back.

I love that, even back then, you inevitably had the fans who were hot for the furry monster. XD

So true at Disneyland during that era. Any male guest with long hair was looked on as a subversive, and even if they didnt have a plainclothes security host shadowing them, they would at the least be scrutinized by most security guards they passed during their visit.

Most acts like this would just mime instrumentation and singing, but these people were the real deal. They could've toured and made a bundle and gotten a following. Hell, they had an organic fanclub form right there during that one brief summer.
This felt like a precursor to Gorillaz if they were given more freedom. What a shame they couldn't explore more.
I am taken by this whole thing. And wonder what could have been.😢
Disney never listens to the people. Whoever heard of a successful band get dropped after studio recording no less? Shame on you Disney and Warner Bros.
@That Flippin Guy and you usually never hear about them because prior to youtube, if you didn't have a record, you effectively didn't exist.

Thanks! The full cover of “Hey There Boys” is on my UA-cam Channel!
Completely agree with you, day 1 subber here too!
Same here dude
damn that detail about Lora's leather jacket really gave me chills 😭
Your documentaries always hit a spot in my heart. I’ve never heard of Halyx, yet this moved me in a way I didn’t expect. Keep doing what you’re doing, it really impact people more than you know 💜
Also, hey there boys would be great as a 80s movie soundtrack
Very well said, much appreciated
im sorry to hear ur terrible and tragic your going though when i see that happen to good people who has so much effort to do this it breaks me cause it all gone they put so much in to it then disney give to CRAPS this why disney need to reevaluate there music and the actor it sadden that good people move aside just for nothing it seen more in the area of actors and actress and music just not cool for the people WHO ARE MOVE ASIDE disney suck in so many ways
Fully agree, always make time to check in with friends whenever you can. You never know when someone just needs someone else to talk to
I'm glad you wrote this - this was exactly what I said and how I felt after watching this.
“And low and behold he was a babe magnet, all the girls wanted to meet the guy under the suit” actually sir, those are just furries
@Safwaan you dont much about furries, huh?
I see girls were very cultured back then. Nice.
Good to know there have been furries/monster f*ckers since time began.
Those kinds of records were so indelibly a part of my childhood, I found myself wanting to sock whoever said they were tired of them.
Jymn worked on the animated Titanic movie with the dog that raps, it's definitely thank you.
This was such a fun yet tragic story. Excellent and thorough documentary work, I enjoyed every moment. The interviews were so amazing. Also seeing Podcast: The Ride was so great! Thank you for releasing this here on UA-cam!
I'm a 49 year old KISS and Star Wars fan since the late 70's and this would've been right in my wheelhouse , I'm sorry they didn't get a chance, RIP Lora Mumford and HALYX
I started this while at work. I thought it would just be some background noise but nope. I paused it, this deserved big screen justice. Made my kids and husband give up the living room TV just to get the full experience. Phenomenal job. I hope everyone part of Halyx know that despite it being many years ago, they now have many new fans.
"In second grade I would trace pictures of Donald Duck and pretend that I drew them and sell them to my friends."
This guy and Disney were a match made in heaven.
"No one cares how you struggle after the lights go out." That line cuts deep. 😢
It was original music but the performers didn't write it.
Lora’s jacket being the only thing left of Halyx 🥺
It's kinda poetic isn't it?
@@htmlnkp I also think it's kind of beautiful in a way too. like. it's a family heirloom now, a flash of lightening in the shape of a red leather jacket. like a singer of Lora's quality working a regular non-singing job. something about the magical and the mundane colliding in weird ways
@@kaelynkelly-colon7170 Happens more than you think. Very tragic and a waste of talent not exposed to the world where it belongs. Just imagine if resources were more accessible to unsung talent. Strangely we're at a point in human history where it's leaps and bounds more accessible than ever yet, most stuff sucks. The true unsung talents are where accessible is inaccessible nor green lit and organized.
@@coreym162 The problem is that everyone has a voice and the best voices aren't always the loudest in terms of eyes on the internet
I momentarily hesitated, but you had me with "...and then I had to climb the rope and play tambourine in space." Just plain excellent work. HALYX ROCKS!
I’m sorry it took me an hour and twenty three minutes to watch. My consensus?
God damnit, you (people) were made to make documentaries. This Halyx story is something that definitely needed that extra time and effort with how much of an impact it had on onlookers and fans.
This documentary is out of this world!
Saw what you did there
“The Wookiee’s gonna be 7 feet tall”
I had seen this band several times in the Summer of '81 and over the years I had somehow forgotten about them. This doc was like a time machine that sent me to the past and helped bring back a flood of memories. Thank you, I absolutely LOVED it!
I love the songwriter lady. She's still completely baffled by the entire situation
Really funny how she said their version of Jailbait sucks. It was weird Disneyland allowed the song in the first place and she knew it.
@@GacMan47 Yeah it's uh... Disney had some "Odd" execs. Like it's censored and all but it still feels a bit creepy.
@@GacMan47 it’s a demo, it’s not supposed to be completely polished
I'm too young to have ever heard of this and yet this documentary has made me tear up and feel that wonder and excitement for something that no longer exists. This has to be one of the best documentaries I've seen on UA-cam, I wish I had the money to donate, all I can do is give a big thank you to the director, the producers and everyone who made this gem, the writing and cinematography was incredible! This channel never ceases to amaze me with the amount of work and its presentations!
Again, thank you for bringing this out to the light!
awe, this is so sad.
The absence of Laura throughout the video didn't make the foregone conclusion any less sad :(
Lora's fade is so heartbreaking.
Seeing her going from near stardom to a waitress job.
When the part about her passing away came up, I teared up.
In another world, they could've been stars.
Thank you so much for your excellent work, Kevin and everyone involved in this fantastic documentary.
why am i crying about this band that existed decades before i was born 😭
I was alive back then and didn't even knew about this band and I am all bummed out too.
A shout out to Halyx in Guardians of the Galaxy would be an incredible way to join the universes in the theme parks!!
Oh man, HALYX and Guardians of the Galaxy would be a perfect fit.
Hear! hear!
Guardians of the Galaxy honestly have the same vibe HALYX has.
Hey There Boys is phenomenal. If this was released today, it would do so well around indie circles :(
"There's never gonna be a bunch of nerdy young people who come around and wanna know about Halyx."
Sometimes the magic works and sometimes it doesn't...but the magic never really goes away.
There will always be nerdy young people coming around looking for cool stuff from the past! 😂
I would have love to have seen this ! it used to be unpopular to be a nerd
@@katies3201 Are there recordings? where can I hear the songs?
@@wonderrob3225 according to the documentary, there aren’t any. They never went into a studio, and they only performed live that one summer. So I’m guessing this is about as much as anyone could find.
