Great vid. I just caught the uranium bug. Got 8 pieces so far. Stop by a estate sell today but didn't have my light. Gonna stop by there tomorrow, wish me luck fellows
I've only been collecting uranium glass since June but I love my little collection so far. One of the last times I was at my favorite antique store one of the women who works there pointed out some custard glass that she was selling, and it's more expensive but very cool. It's completely opaque (you can't see through it at all) and sort of a light yellow, but glows just as green as the other uranium glass I have. I doubt I'll collect much of it, but it's just a neat thing to have. Currently my focus is on collecting pieces with the lovebird print.
Our thoughts exactly. Just after posting this vid we did get a mid range Geiger counter with the intention of doing another vid, it just hasn't happened yet! Thank you for watching!
very cool (smile) ... my favorite radioactive glass is cobalt blue ... the half life for cobalt-60 is only 5--6 years so I'm not so worried about it (smile)
One piece in there stood out. It was the one with cobalt blue etched onto the glass. I have only seen those here on youtube. I have not seen any of that in the wild. Pretty cool.
It seems that different styles are territorial, different places have different assortments. If one doesn't travel far enough they may never see certain collections. I remember recently I was a thousand miles from home and saw a uranium glass rocking horse in an antique mall, the horse was so crudely shaped it almost seemed like a beginners project. It was absolutely beautiful. The antique shops near me would have never carried such a piece, but there it was. Far from home.
Diane, thank you for the comment! That is a great question, overall both the uranium glass and the lead crystal are safe to use, uranium glass only poses a minor issue if chipping occurs because you don't want to ingest the uranium or the glass. Lead crystal is actually perfectly safe, the amount of lead consumed from your glass leaching into your drink is far less than the amount of lead consumed in a normal diet. If you are concerned about any lead, you can soak white vinegar in your glass before washing and it will leave the crystal lead free in the drinking layer! Thanks for watching, have a great day!
Yes! And u can use forks with them! Drink out of them! Their facts are silly! 😂 they don’t understand science at all or the process on how these glass are made! lol their spouting nonsense and don’t know it! Need to have a picnic with the baloney they dishing out! Least these boys are a pretty face! ❤ these boys need to hit the books and understand the process on how the glass was made, and the science behind it so they can be more then pretty faces! The uranium is rendered harmless! Yes it’s there, but it’s harmless! How do they think now ones was dropping dead earring and drinking out of all these dishes since 1830? All the wealthy using these dishes as a status symbol? Hmmm? No one died, hair fell out or dropped dead! Smh people will believe anything! They get their facts off online because internet never lies! Understand what you’re talking about before u speak it and spread it about! They don’t recommend this stuff. Fellow UA-camrs and bloggers spreading false information information say this stuff! Not scientist and well informed people who know what their talking about lol they don’t say this stuff lol they say what u said. URANIUM GLASS, VASELINE GLASS, is HARMLESS! ❤ safe to eat off of and drink out of! So entertain guest with it! Turn on some uv lights with ghostly flow and evil eye them with they act up and threaten to drop any thing 😂😂 ❤
What’s the source that it’s dangerous to eat out of them? That means even normal glass dishwasher would be dangerous because of the ingestion of glass...
There was a study done in 2004 that showed that a tiny amount of radiation does transfer to liquids and food put into uranium glass. It's the radiation that permeates the food and drink, not the glass itself. While it is a miniscule amount of radiation that gets in the liquid and food, and probably wouldn't be harmful, you shouldn't be drinking or eating any amount of radiation.
Oh I'm getting a black light and putting it in my purse because Now that I know about this LOL I just learned about this from #ExploringWithFighters here on UA-cam, Dan was talking about collecting Uranium glass and he seen this old lamp in an abandoned house He thought was uranium glass and he wanted a black light to show how it glows and It did glow like something that glows in the dark does and I was like WOW That's cool and he was shinning the black light on other glass stuff and a couple other things lit right up but the glass he was showing didn't really look green at all , It just looked like clear glass until it glowing in the dark from the black light and Then I stopped the video and here I am LOL First I googled and from google I found this video So Thanks Guys and I will be getting a black light for my purse because this is a cool thing to know .
Thank you so much for this video. I am so happy to have found it. BTW, I love your Beauty and the Beast shirt. Question.... Is uranium glass worth much more than non-uranium glass?
Thank you so much! To answer your question the best I can say is unfortunately not necessarily, obviously it can vary from piece to piece, but as with all things collectable, its value lies in whatever people are willing to pay for it, so the more impressive pieces will fetch more because they are more desirable, not because they are "hotter" on a Geiger scale.
You asked this two years ago so you probably don't care about the response, but I wanted to answer in case anyone else was wondering. If you shine it on regular depression glass it looks the same as if you were shining a uv light on any glass. I accidentally bought a piece of regular depression glass yesterday in fact, and didn't realize it wasn't uranium glass until I went to put it with the others under my black light and it did nothing. Oops!
There are also some Vintage items that are made with Uranium glass. Costume jewelry pieces sometimes have Uranium glass stones and/or beads as well as some Vintage Marbles.
Absolutely, we have been collecting marbles for a while (I love finding shooters) but only recently have we been working on the habit of checking jewelry as well! Thank you for your comment!
Does any of the pink glass have uranium in it? I've been shining my light on every pink glass I see in hopes of finding some that glows, but I haven't seen anything so far. Once my green uranium glass collection gets large enough (I'm just going for one color for now) I'm going to start getting some of the pink glass regardless because it's so pretty.
Many different patterns of Green Depression Glass have uranium in them. I saw several patterns in your case. Thanks for the video.
I love collecting uranium glass
We do too! Thanks for watching!
Great vid. I just caught the uranium bug. Got 8 pieces so far. Stop by a estate sell today but didn't have my light. Gonna stop by there tomorrow, wish me luck fellows
Good Luck! And happy hunting, it is an exciting hobby!
impressive collection! I drink tea from my uranium cup everyday. Its just like the sunlight also radioactive, but good in small doses.
Tea is an excellent choice! I can see that you are a highly sophisticated individual, like us!

Custard glass, I am not familiar, but it sounds awesome, I will look into it! Thank you!
geiger counter. you guys should get one.

@@MaLeeProductions That's awesome looking forward to the next video 👍

I'm getting started with ug. Very cool stuff.
Happy hunting, it's definitely an addicting hobby!
I'm sure people didn't have uv lights back then so did they know there items glowed or I wonder what year did people start finding out it glows
I have a chunk of uranium milk glass from the 1950s. It is a two pound chunk left over from marble manufacturing. Just chopped it up for lapidary work
Wow, what a unique item. Where did you come across that?
They have a 9th/10 Doctors Sonic Screwdriver which has a UV light. I was thinking maybe I could use that to find these!
That is an amazing idea!!
@@MaLeeProductions Thanks!

When is the last time you chipped a glass plate and accidentally ate a piece of it ?
" Great ambassador of uranium Glass (material)..."
That was awesome. Love the collection. I'm trying to do the same. If you can't consume from the green dish , can you drink from lead crystal .?

Uranium glass is completely harmless.

I wouldn’t use the word completely. You shouldn’t eat out of them and you don’t want the small shards of the glass to be ingested.

Great video. You made it fun!

Pretty awesome

What happens if you use the uv torch on depression glass ? It definitely wouldn't be a vibrant green ?

Does the uv light and black light react differently with "U" glass..?

Jadeite also glows I believe I have a jadeite towel rack in my collection it's still cool p.s. just added a pitcher its nice
Too bad you don’t have any of the pink uranium to have more of a variation.

They started using uranium well before that, you also forgot to include Radium.
Radium. 3:14
Radium? Radium ion Ra2+ is colourless like all the alkaline-earth ions are
Glow party 🎉
Thanks a lot . NOT!
