I don't wanna make money I just want to keep everything I get.
I totally get it! I just ordered another old license plate! 🤣
Why on earth do you like it?
@@milkteaalliance1748 it's just neat!!!
I love anything that glows!!!
@@BackPorchAntiques I'm a brand new sub, you have a shop with items for sale? Do tell the website please!!!
They're harmless yes but they do register on a Geiger counter and it's a fairly good tool for identifying them in flea markets and antique stores. You can also find clocks, watches, compasses, and ceramics as well.
I have heard that, but I've never had one to try it. I've had some people in our store that would find things that would glow that I never imagined... right under my nose. There's some experts out there sniffing that co stuff out. You're probably one of them!
They told the girls who made those war watches to pick the paint brushes.... It wasn't safe. The fact they have put it in mass consumption products should tell you everything you need to know about the elite. They are laughing. And they are psychopaths.
Sonic screwdriver works too
Harmless glowing uranium lol ok
If it breaks you can get poisoned
Thank you😊 I have some and did not know about the uranium glow, thanks for the education.
This was a great video. I had never heard of this kind of glass, but will be on the lookout now. Thanks so much!
You’re welcome! We’re glad you enjoyed it and learned something from it.
Collecting for a month now. Im glad YT algorithm brought me here 💚💚💚💚
We're glad it did too. Thanks for watching! Here is a link to antoher video we did on urnaium glass if you're interested: ua-cam.com/video/HIDuMj8CHVE/v-deo.html
I’ve seen most of these pieces before in my area, but the cat and the hobnail pitcher are unusual and gorgeous! It was so fun to see them, thanks for sharing them. We take our blacklights for all of our antiquing adventures. Ever have a uranium floor lamp in your shop? I love them!
Awesome. Glad you enjoyed the video. I've never had a floor lamp, but we just got a desk lamp in that is a doll! If you don't follow our Instagram gram page, check that out. We list our goodies there too.
Lovely video, thanks for sharing your knowledge.

This is awesome thanks for making such a good video of this
I appreciate it. Its fun. Thanks!
Passed through Kingsport Tennessee and didn’t know you was that close! Next stop through gonna come by!

I have a uranium glass cup and I love it!!
They've got an awesome look!!
totally new to your channel just learned about uranimnmglass
It's a very cool subject. Thank you for watching.
Thank you for explaining this so well and clearly.
Thank you!
Also, Fenton made some that was before the 1930's I believe that was actual carnival glass. I have 3 or 4 pieces. I always hit carnival glass with my 395 and 365 lights to make sure. Cheers!
I'd never even heard of uranium glass till today
Now I absolutely want a china cabinet full of them
Thanks for watching! We’ve got a couple other videos on uranium glass and other glassware.
this was super informative! thanks for sharing the information. :>

I sent you some emails. Looking for an item.
I replied to your message. We'll keep an eye out!
I wanna get some they are cool I will use the cups
To be real with you guys, these are not totally harmless. They do release beta particles but the amount is so minute, the chances of it causing damage to you is, for all intents and purposes, negligible- a little worse that walking out on a sunny day. The risk is there. Bonus fact, the metal and element Bismuth is radioactive, however, it is so astronomically small to be effected and harmed from it. It releases like 3-8 beta particles a day for ~100 grams worth and has a half life several times longer that the estimated life of the universe. For perspective, a single atom of uranium decays into lead by releasing 6 beta particles.
Great information. Thanks for sharing!
Indeed they are not entirely safe. Since 99% of the natural Uranium is mostly U-238 (a lot less radioactive than U-235 and U-234) and the amount is even higher in depleted Uranium (which are both used for Uranium glas) they are primarily emitting Alpha radiation, which is especially dangerous when it gets into the body by eating or drinking off of the glas. The decay products however do emit beta radiation which is more difficult to protect yourself from. There is not a lot of Uranium in the glas so generally speaking it is harmless but I certainly would not consume anything off of it.
Omg I was going to "correct" you bc I thought it was "intensive purposes" not "intents and purposes".
So how many beta particles does 100 grams of uranium release a day.
Where I bay this green glass set because am from India punjab
Iove this!!!
Thank you!
That UV lit china cabinet is amazing to see. 2:29
Thank you!
Got my little torch last week and hope to find my first piece soon.
I'm in Australia
Awesome! Happy hunting!!
Have a lot an love It 😊
Super video, quick point to mention the clear glass (like the cat) is manganese not uranium. Still really cool!
Good point. Thanks!
I have ash trays made of Uranium Glass and they are so beautiful. There are few small pieces plates and cups.
Ash trays are pretty popular right now in uranium glass!
Do you have a video on carnival glass? If not you should make one! :D
Hello! We did a video on Millersburg glass and Fenton, but not a carnival glass general video. Check those two out for now and we'll ponder another carnival glass video. Thanks!
Informative upload. Great refresher for learning about Uranium Glass.
I recently acquired a UG ashtray, about 4.5 in diameter that fits nicely in the round, open base of a very old cast-iron desk lamp I repaired. Does anyone know a source for a general dating of the UG ashtray, or maybe the lamp? (Oddly, the lamp has no detectable manufacturer engravings or markings on it, but has been tentatively identified as being from the "Art Nouveau" period.)
That sounds very cool! Unfortunately, the only way to date the glass is either through a marking/label or stylistically. The same would be for the base. I think, by the way you described it, you're probably correct in your assumption.
I love collecting uranium glass
Why?
@@milkteaalliance1748 why not
Years ago I helped a friend clean out his grandfather's home after he had past. The man was probably the most neat and organized hoarder I have ever seen. He had tons of this stuff, all matching sets, some on display, some boxed up in what looked like original packaging. We didn't know what it was, my friend had made the decision to just get rid of it, as he was tasked with this responsibility, being the only member of the family left. So we took it all and put into the dumpster that he had rented. It was still early in the cleanup, so the dumpster was relatively empty, and we walked it all in through the door on the end and stacked it all. We weren't necessarily gentle, but we definitely didn't just meet the boxes over the side. So in NW Ohio, there is a dump that has a ton of this stuff buried in it. If we only knew.....
Oh wow... 😭😭
I really learned a lot with this video , Now I need a black light ?
That helps. It is fun!
Great video but greater information given the next time you make a comparison show if possible a fake uranium & a real uranium glass.
We’ll try to!
I have a large jadeite piece that i just had to have because I couldn't find any in other stores but it had a very small chip in the glass and when i say small i mean small. So should i get rid of it or try to seal it with glue?
No, I don't think there is much, if any, risk of harm. Also, most Jadeite isn't uranium anyway. If it glows under the UV light, I would suggest not using it food preparation and keeping as a thing of beauty to view. Thanks for watching!
I used this glass growing up my grsbbdma had a few drinking glasses and plates
From my understanding, best not to eat out of it every day, just so you don’t have extended exposure 👍
Really gorgeous stuff if you have a blacklight display though!
I don't think I would either. It is pretty.
I found your video very informative thank you
I've been collecting it 4 a while and as I'm in the UK plenty of car boot sales and charity shops
We have a programme here in UK called Antiques Road Show
I'm taking some of my uranium glass/Mary Gregory 2 get estimates 4 them nanajan
Thank you! Enjoy!
I've bought and sold a bunch of it got quite a few pieces left
I bought 4 vintage small glass dogs. I collect them. I have 200 pieces. These glowed!!! To clarify its the ones that are about 2 inches high. Wish I could show pic. Anyway have you heard of uranium miniatures? And I'm not talking about the Fenton animals either
Very cool! Early glass makers were often using glass with uranium qualities without intention, so almost any early glass company made pieces that glow. As you mentioned, Fenton used their Topaz and Burmese styles up into the mid 2000's, but others had used them too much earlier. Keep growing that collection!
You should definitely get a geiger counter if you're collecting this stuff.
Some of this old Uranium glass can be quite radioactive and could potentially be a health hazard if exposed to it long enough.
Most of it is harmless as you have indicated but without detection you simply won't know.
Not a bad idea!
It would be extremely rare for that to happen, as most of it has around the same amount of radioactivity as a glow in the dark watch dial (radium paint) from before the 70s. I've never heard of Geiger counters showing barely any radioactivity on uranium, depression or custard glass, but I suppose accidents could happen. Maybe if a piece was glowing on its own or blinds you under a blacklight, I'd be concerned, but if you've heard of a case where the glass caused harm, I'd love to hear more.
@@shuruff904radium dials are far more radioactive. Just a smaller anoint of material.
Is the Fenton cat manganese since it's clear? Tried 365nm wavelength light instead of the usual 395nm?
I am not well versed in the different bandwidth of lights and its effects on different elements. I appreciate your input, however. I'll look into that. You've got me curious.
@@BackPorchAntiques Heck yeah. Lots of heavy manganese forward pieces out there. They'll turn purplish over time due to sun exposure.
I've seen those. They look pretty cool once they turn.
They definitely will make a Geiger counter sing!
Some of them might.
I assume you’re familiar with oak ridge , the atomic city, secret city.we are the ones who refined the uranium.anyways I’m excited to check all the green glass down at our local thrift stores
Yes ma'am! The Manhattan Project. Impressive history. Thanks for watching.
Hey!!! Follow local here! 😊 love seeing yall out in the wild in the comment sections of UA-cam or uranium groups lol
I saw on GingerChickRehab green glass with blacklight but hers were multicolored when flashed?? Is that not uranium glass but something else? Help. Thank you for the video too.
There are many types of glass that have different minerals or elements in them that glow different colors. Stay tuned to our channel: we're going to do a video on those soon.
I have a small green bowl with a A one the bottom .. do you know what that means. Please
I am not familiar with that by memory. There were lots of designs and styles, however.
Does uranium glass come in clear? I've seen some that are very pale but never clear.
It is a rarity, but there is some glass that radiates when clear. You'd never know it unless you happen to flash a UV light over it at some point. I may do a video on that sometime.
I collect this and the yellow
Great ones to collect!
Hi can you answer this i found a Uranium Eye glass will I go blind wearing it
Probably not any more blind than you already are. However, I'm no expert...
I have a frost green vase it has grape on it it glows green what is it worth
I'd have to see it to offer an estimate, but there is a lot of buyers in this market nowadays.
What is the price for the cat? I have been looking at Fenton pieces.
That one has already sold. We have lots of Fenton Burmese at the store. It glows. Follow us on Facebook and shoot us a message. We can show you what we've got.
What kimf of light it is , or brand can someone recommend me one please
Most of them aren't specifically branded. I have just used an Amazon version often. However, we are going to do a video soon about the different options.
My daughter who's 12 wants to find some of this uranium glass soo bad 😂 we are constantly going to goodwills. Nothing yet. It is beautiful glass. I have a set of Fenton clowns from the 70/80s. My mom had bought them for me.
Those clowns are probably pretty cool. Uranium glass comes in and out of our store quickly.
I can’t find an actual answer, but what kind of spectrum of black light do we get. I’ve seen 395 spectrum works to find true uranium glass. Wanting your input :)
Well, I'm not certain about that. I'm learning as I go. I may have to do some research on that. I'm sorry.
I was looking for info on Geiger counters for uranium glass and Fiestaware; came across a Reddit thread talking about UV lights and Geiger counters for Uranium glass.
It said uranium glass responds at 395 nm, but manganese glass not so much.
At 365 mm, uranium and manganese glass glows. But lead, cadmium and selenium glass also glow at 365. Thread didn't mention what the other glasses did at 395.
Can you recommend a good black light flash light for testing, please?
I actually just use the Amazon pocket black lights. I know there are some people who prefer a specific bandwidth, but it's not necessary for my purposes.
Thank you for your quick and helpful response. I've inherited my latemother-in-laws collection of antique glass (miniaturre oil lamps, cruets, glass shoes, toothpick holders...most more than 100 years old). Just now learning about testing for the uranium content.
@@BackPorchAntiques
Is it dangerous if it breaks?
Do you have to claim the package as hazardous if you ship it overseas?
It's my understanding that it's not dangerous unless heavily ingested. I am no expert, however. That may be a question for a doctor or a scientist. Also, I have never heard of anyone having to claim it as hazardous shipping.
Thanks for watching!
I’m interested
Why?
I have a heavy glass conch shell thar glows. Any ideas?
Is it stain in shade? If so, it's quite possible a Fenton Glass piece. They made one of those in their Burmese collection. I'm not sure if they made one in Topaz (shiney) or not. Theirs will stand about 6 to 8 inches tall. They hold a pretty good value, $200 plus. Hope that helps.
It Is light green, translucent. Like vaseline glass. Glows a bright bluish green.
@@BackPorchAntiques wish I knew we how to upload a video here. It's on my UA-cam channel.
Do you suggest a geiger counter too?
Not particularly. It is of no value to identify glowing glass. I suppose if you're interested in how radioactive pieces are, then maybe that should be considered an option.
@@BackPorchAntiques Thanks!
You're welcome.
I've been collecting Vaseline glass for over 40 years now. I've never heard it referenced as "uranium glass" before. The two pieces of the yellow-green color, the button pitcher and orange juicer, is "Vaseline" glass. The rest of what you have in front of you is simply Depression Glass. Yes, the green color comes from uranium, but green depression glass is different from Vaseline glass. The value differently as well, green depression glass is of like value to any other depression glass. What collectors want is the Vaseline glass, as it's much more valuable.
I think I mentioned those name differences in my video. If not, it was a previous one. However, collectors of this glass today call it Uranium Glass, and they buy it as soon as I get it in the store. Also, this market has changed significantly in 6 months, so nothing is as it was 40 years ago to these new collectors. Yellow or green doesn't matter. It's all about how bright it glows and what shape it is.
Hey grandma, can I see that little green dish you always have those strawberry wrapped candies in
Now you're thinking!
where do i look for items like this??
Locla antique stores or Ebay. It's popular enough now that you can find it in lots of places! Follow us on FB (Back Porch Antiques) as we sell a lot of it!
Does anyone know why there are so many uranium glass citrus juicers??? It's the most common item I see when searching for uranium glass
I've wondered the same thing too! There are also a lot of sherbert bowls.
Time to do some digging I suppose 🤓

Did Indiana glass have uranium glass , I have a blue glass footed oval fruit bowl
If they did, I'm not familiar with it. I'm sure that's a pretty piece.
I have a bulldog he was my family wondering who made him and value??
Not sure we have the answer to that question for you. Sorry!
Do you no anything about uranium marbles?
I know of them. I have seen and sold them in my store, but I don't know any specifics other than they do exist. I doubt that helps you, however.
Curious: Would 'recharging" Uranium Glass using radioactive material improve the color? Guess we'll soon find out :(💥
I'm not sure, but please report back!
I buy stuff like this, break it and use it in custom mirrors I make for night clubs and strip joints.
😮😮
I have five of these at home that I bought at a antique store
I have a MSE branded bowl can anyone shed some insight on value
I'm not familiar with that brand, but all uranium and other glowing glass holds pretty good value. Rarely is there a piece valued at less than $25 and some can go for much more.
+10 rads
+10 style
I have lots of uranium glass.
My father collected antiques of every kind. He died many years ago and had 3 pole barns with the stuff. From every kind of glassware, furniture, clocks and many other things. It was all stored for nearly 50 years in my brother’s law office attic. He recently passed and so it was left to my sister and me. I have a matching pair of wicker rockers from the 1800’s. The backs have springs filled horsehair and the seats are the same. So much stuff, I have to sell much of it. Rockwood, Roseville, depression glad carnival glass, tons of it.
I have whole sets of antique china no. So may pieces of furniture, I don’t know where to put it. I did have an antique appraiser one chest made from the same tree. It is walnut with no nails and is tung and grove. He appraised it at 35,000 thousands and wanted to buy it. That i am keeping to give to my daughter.
I bet that room is above backround
Are you talking about the screenshot room with the cabinet in it?

Don’t you mean 20th century? I don’t think they were fucking around with uranium on the 1800s
I do mean the 19th century and they were around in the 1800s. More specifically, the 1880s. Their intentions were not to make the glass glow, it was to use different elements of nature to turn the glass color.
i dont even bother picking most of it up. they arent worth much.
It sells like hotcakes at my store, if it's priced reasonably.
I do some ebaying too. I agree, probably wouldn't try that there.
I think it’s hysterical that everyone is so crazy about this glass. It’s poison. 🤣😜
It could be amusing
@@BackPorchAntiques, I saw a unique uranium glass ashtray at the Salvation Army today for $1.99. It stayed. 😉
I understand some people are concerned with the uranium effect, but It's my understanding that there isn't enough residual effect to harm anyone. I may be wrong, though.
What sorts of things do you collect and search for?
@@BackPorchAntiques, right now, I am just buying old candy dished and cut glass bowls. I am turning the candy dishes over and using epoxy to adhere the glass bowls to the foot of the candy dish.
