MacBook Pro M1 14” Display Screen Broken Black Blurry White Images

  • After my screen suddenly went black I was unable to access the operating system, even after a hard reboot. Immediately, the Apple logo can be seen as a blurred white image.
    I connected an external display via HDMI and was able to see my desktop, paired a Bluetooth mouse, and booted into the disk, utility to reformat and reinstall the operating system. After this, the screen came back, and I thought the issue was over, but within one day, the issue came back.
    I have tried booting by holding the start button down to get to the “start up options “screen, bit it’s blurred; I have tried command R to boot into recovery mode but it’s blurred, and I have even tried the original SM C, and PRAM resets even though I believe they do not apply to the silicon CPU Macbooks.
    At one point, the display returned, flickered to black every once in a while, but seemed to stay on, so I decided to do a CPU stress test in the terminal, and when running multiple cores at 100% the screen issue immediately returns and cannot be corrected.
    I suspect that if I connect to an external HDMI screen, I may be able to access the computer again, but I obviously cannot be productive in this manner, especially if I am somewhere that I do not have access to an external screen.
    The computer was purchased in February 2022 and it is now April 2023, so it is just two months out of warranty, and I am hoping that since this issue seems to be fairly common Apple will make the appropriate replacements at no cost. I will be taking it to an Apple authorized service center in my city. Via Apple support chat the representative stated that if there is a manufacturing defect, it would be covered, and I hope that his words are true.
    I will update this video later on the status and whether or not Apple will cover this repair for me, or if I will have to pay out of pocket for what I believe is a $600-$700 repair on a laptop that has been treated like a baby, never dropped, never spilled on, and used ever so lightly without any CPU/GPU intensive tasks, with minimal screen brightness, and even battery longevity techniques using the 20/80 rule.
    EDIT: people keep asking how I fixed it, even though I replied many times, so I'll restate it. It was a hardware issue and the entire screen needed to be replaced. it's not cheap out of warranty, but in my case apple covered it as I was just 2 months out of warranty.

    This same symptom just appeared in my M1 Max that I have babied since purchasing it. I’m a computer/software engineer at Boeing and NASA and I used to work as a computer support technician so I have a pretty good idea of what not to do with any computer. The lid angle sensor makes total sense to me. It has manifested while I was using it on my desk and when hooked up to a usb c dock. I’m going to contact apple right now as soon as I find my proof of purchase.

    For those wondering, this is an issue with the lid angle sensor/flex cable. It needs to be replaced and calibrated.

      The symptoms I’m seeing support that assessment. It happens even before the boot rom is loaded so it can’t be a software issue.

    I have just had the same problem. Screen stopped working suddenly during a Teams Call. Warranty lapsed around 2 weeks earlier. Fortunately, Apple replaced the screen at no charge under UK Consumer Law. I was told that the problem was due to a faulty sensor.

    The screen is broken... it needs replacing, you can hook your macbook up to a monitor, reset wait for donk sound and close the lid. You'll need to hook up a keyboard and mouse. You can get them repaired But if you re repairing it with apple, it's as expensive as buying a new one

    How long did it take for apple to fix it

    • @trademarked8320
      @trademarked8320  4 місяці тому

      Apple approved it quickly, even a few months out of warranty, but the authorized service provider (I’m not near an Apple Store) was so bad that Apple voluntarily put in a complaint against them because they were near impossible to work with. Once they finally go a high enough rep on the phone (which I had to do) it just took a couple days to fix.
