Basic Maintenance: How to Remove Motorcycle Fairings, 2012 Ninja 1000

In this episode of the back to basics maintenance series, we're going to show you how to remove and replace your motorcycle fairings. I'll be doing this on my 2012 Ninja 1000.

LOL! Sorry, don't mean to laugh as I also broke a tab or two (or four). I was watching another channel where this guy built up the plastic replacing a broken tab. Not on a fairing but It's applicable. I'll look for that again and give it a try.

How do you safely remove plastic pieces/fairings when you have no idea how they are connected to each other? You could easily break the tabs or connectors by pulling and yanking on each piece. I have a Kymco AK 550 luxury scooter and want to paint the plastic parts/fairings but I am worried about pulling pieces apart.....and also getting them back together again.....

I broke the pins that go into the tank grommets! Any recommendation on a good fix? I'm thinking I'll just super glue some plastic clip or something!

Excellent and very helpful. My experience: first time to remove and reinstall fairings was a pain and time consuming. Second time much easier but still time consuming especially when you just want to do something like change coolant. One thing I'd like to add, I believe there is a small tab at the very front of the fairings that also needs to be inserted. I missed it on one side and didn't notice until next time I washed bike. Ended up taking fairing off again to reinsert.

There is a small tab. Thanks for pointing that out. As you found out, its the same forward sliding motion of the fairing that engages both tabs.

I have this same bike. My brother broke the kickstand off. What should i do?

Ahhhhh!!!! Did it break the mounting bolt hole that holds the stand on the bike? If so, you'll need to replace this part www.kawasakipartshouse.com/oemparts/a/kaw/56e72ad687a8660e60bbde12/stand-s
If its just the stand, then a new side stand is required. If the holes where the bracket (above) is broken then your kinda screwed
