16 horsepower was one of the most misunderstood bands of the 90s. Definitely one of the most talented musicians of our time. I started using a violin bow on my guitar after seeing David do it in one of his songs.
@@squiremuldoon5462 That's the kind of nonsense that makes "fans" hope that "their" band never makes it big because they think they'll lose their specialness for liking them. It's pathetic. Fame of a song doesn't change a damn thing. You really think "The Sound of Silence" is ruined because its famous? What fame does do is give the artist a shot at making a comfortable living, and being able to keep making music without wondering if the next album will be their last because they can't afford to keep losing money making albums when hardly anyone buys them anymore.
All while having a say in what the artists make. They sure as hell won't do that for someone who doesn't toe the line, or suggest something they don't like. And for 16HP that would certainly include doing away with all the religious content that makes David who he is.
And why's that? Sure, I love this song and band as well as Wovenhand. But why SHOULD it be more famous. Should people think like you or should this band be artificially pumped up through millions of dollars like the shit bands that are? Or do you just say that because you want the world to reflect your ego?

This song makes me think I am in a trench waiting for Russians to come to be shot, but while we wait my grandfather is telling me stories and he's not lying shot in the snow yet.
Makes me think a lot of some random obscure cult that worships a certain Eldritch diety and they disguise themselves as something like Pentacostals/Baptists. That whole Silent Hill/Lovecraft atmosphere is extremely prevalent in Southern Gothic culture.
This is uncanny, how can I have never heard of this band ever before lest this song? Song and vid could have easily be produced last year as well. Must be a bug in the matrix that's the _only_ possible explanation... ;D
What? Lol. I thought this song was about athesim and the creation of religion by man: "every man is evil, every man is a liar" wicked tounges and all that. I'll stick with that interpretation, or it'll ruin a great song.

Oh, he rises in my way
I KNOW RIGHT?!
this band has dominated my stereo more than any metal band this couple of days
Check out 'Hiss,' the first track released from Wovenhands upcoming album, 'Refractory Obdurate' 4-29-2014.
This music makes me feel like some early 20s appalachian miner ready to fight against government forces in a strike. Amazing stuff.
That whole Silent Hill/Lovecraft atmosphere is extremely prevalent in Southern Gothic culture.
dark, gloomy...beautiful!
I LOVE THIS!!!!! I MEAN LIKE I LOVE IT WITH MY WHOLE ENTIRE SINNER SOUL!!!
Got to see these guys open for Morphine in a smallish venue in Boulder in 1996(?), both bands tore it up.
This is uncanny, how can I have never heard of this band ever before lest this song? Song and vid could have easily be produced last year as well. Must be a bug in the matrix that's the _only_ possible explanation... ;D
It's music and lyrics like this that makes an old hardcore atheist soften at the knees
Amen, Brother.
agnostic and melting at these words
I call bullshit.
What? Lol. I thought this song was about athesim and the creation of religion by man: "every man is evil, every man is a liar" wicked tounges and all that. I'll stick with that interpretation, or it'll ruin a great song.
I'm the furthest thing from religious than you can be, but there's no harm in appreciating the beauty and art that religion inspires.
Saw these guys open for the Innocence Mission around 1995, was an instant fan
EXCELLENT song!!!
I saw them at the Roskilde Festival in Denmark, in 96 I believe. They opened the show with this one. Fantastic band!
the love of my life showed me this song, and even tho i fcuked up and destroyed any chance, atleast she gave me something great that i can listen too
David Eugene Edwards is a music genius..
Ain't none ever seen the face of his foe no
He ain't made of flesh & bone
He's the one who sits up close beside you
An when he's there you are alone
Every man is evil yes an every man a liar
An unashamed with the wicked tongues sing
In the black soul choir
Yes an no man ever seen the face of my Lord no
Not since he left his skin
He's the one you keep cold on the outside girl
He's at your door let him in
O I will forgive your wrongs
Yes I am able
An for my own I feel great shame
If I were Cain
Great song. Great band!!!
