  • My brother James W. Russom, Jr. passed away in 2018, after a long and debilitating bout with spinal cord cancer. He is sorely missed.
About a year later, I was in our master bedroom, collecting dirty clothes in a laundry basket, so I could take them downstairs to our laundry. As I took my first step on the stairs, I heard a phrase of music in my head. I thought "nice tune," but kept descending the stairs. By the time I reached the landing, I had sixteen bars in my head, complete with lyrics. At that point if figured: "Screw laundry. I'll go to the piano and capture this insistent song." The result was my original song: "I Will See You in Heaven."
I noticed immediately that the lyrics were not the sort of thing I would say. However, they are exactly the kind of sentiment my brother James would express. So, I like to think that James wrote this song, and I merely channeled it. Even so, I fully endorse his sentiment, and I believe that I will see him again.
