  • Here's a recent performance of an original song I wrote for Black History Month, back in 2021. It's a story about Rosa Parks. Now, Rosa Parks is remembered for refusing to give up her seat on a public bus in Birmingham, Alabama in 1955. And that was a water-shed event for the civil rights movement. But people forget that she lived on for many decades, and she was an activist for civil rights and women's rights. In that work, Rosa Parks travelled and gave a lot of speeches.
So, I went on the Internet looking for her speeches, and I found one that was short, to the point, and it made an excellent point about her experience that night on a public bus in Birmingham. The lyrics of my song are Rosa Parks' words from that speech, just rewritten a bit by me. The title of the song sums up her speech: "The Only Tired I Was (Was Tired Of Givin' In)".
