A lot of people used to ask why anakin was crying in that scene. It’s because he hates himself so much for what he did, the horrors he committed. But he felt he had to do it to save his family.

I believe Obi-Wan knew Anakin and Padmé harbored feelings for one another similarly to how Obi-Wan and Satine did.
Though I am also a firm believer that Obi-Wan wasn't aware of how far Anakin and Padmé's relationship had gotten. Them having become married and Padmé carrying their children, I do not believe Obi-Wan was aware of that fact until the very end, when he pieced those parts together himself.
After all, Obi-Wan believed Anakin and Padmé's relationship WAS purely Professional, or at least that they tried to keep it Professional, as with Obi-Wan and Satine.

and the irony of it all is that he had two very specific moments where he could have ensured her safety and leave his woes behind.
when coming across Windu and Sidious he could have explained to Mace his desperation, at that point with the war all but won, he could have risked his reputation knowing he could have saved what he loved, instead acting to intercede, and allow Sidious to murder him.
when Padme arrived on Mustafar she pled with him for an escape, as the government she served was unrecognizable, the one thing she had was her unborn children and a chance at a quiet and peaceful life, something that Anakin had wanted more than anything. The cut they used, when he pulls out his lightsaber and the one kids flinches, and they all looked worried was because he walked into the room and yelled boo really loud and aggressive and it startled and scared them a little, all other cuts at least one kid was smiling or laughing because he had spent so much time playing with and having fun with them and they couldn't take him seriously when he acted mean lol.

55:06 A good question, and Rico is definitely on the right track with his guess. The Dark Side can actually physically-corrupt users depending on how immersed they are in it, how much they use it, or if they commit a particularly evil/hostile act in pursuit of it. In fact, if I recall right, Palpatine actually had to use a sort of Force-based illusion to maintain his normal appearance; and during his duel with Windu, the rebound lightning stripped the illusion away and revealed what he REALLY looked like. Mind you, this is based off of a throw-away line I heard of from the novelization of the movie, which may or may not be proper canon at this point given the Disney take-over and all.
But yeah, using the Dark Side of the Force actually does mess you up almost as much physically as it does mentally.

A theory about Padme‘s death has been around for a long time and I think it’s the most compelling one. It basically says that Palpatine used the power of the dark side to create life and basically save someone from certain death (as Palpatine explained to Anakin). Except that he didn’t just save or rather create Darth Vader but he sacrificed Padmes life in order to do so. Which is why the two scenes, the death of Padme and Anakin and the birth of Darth Vader are cut alongside each other. I think you can perfectly see it as Vader takes his first breath or when Padme dies and basically falls back a bit while in the next scene you see Vader rise.
It’s also why Padmes death can’t really be explained.

I remember reading somewhere - I think it may have been the junior novelization of the movie - that there was a scene that didn't make the film where Anakin goes to the Jedi library researching premonitions and visions in something called a Jedi Holocron which is basically their version of a library book. The information he gets from it warns that trying to stop something from happening in a vision can sometimes end up causing it to happen - that always stuck with me because as you guys mentioned several times Padme would likely have been fine if Anakin hadn't become obsessed with "saving" her.
Additionally, Anakin did turn out to still be the "Chosen One" - one interpretation of the title Return of the Jedi is that not only did Luke survive to create a new Jedi Order, but Anakin died as a Jedi rather than a Sith and yeeting Palpatine down the Death Star shaft destroyed the Sith. The irony is it took his attachment to his children, which the Jedi in the prequels would forbid, to make it happen.

Palpatine was telling anakin how darth plagueis could use the force to influence midichlorians to create life. Shmi skywalker (anakins mom) said anakin had no father and she couldnt explain what happened.. it was a conception through the force, orchestrated by the sith from the very beginning. In the end anakin did fulfill the prophecy (with some convincing from luke) by throwing the emperor down the shaft thus bringing balance to the force. The disney plot messes all that up though… great reaction guys, i personally love how george lucas told the story out of order, it was a unique artistic choice on his part and the pay off of learning what caused vader and the empire to exist is captivating.

Here's a different interpretation of the 'Big Picture' of the Star Wars films (episodes I thru VI):
The Force has a will of its own, that is independent of the Jedi, the Sith and everyone else. (The Force is NOT a character in the films, in the sense that we don't see or meet it, in any way; It reveals its will by certain events that happen.) The Force 'knew' that Palpatine and the other Sith needed to be taken down. It also knew that its usual tool, the Jedi, were not a match for this group of Sith. So, The Force had to get involved directly, behind the scenes.
      - Was Shmi Skywalker impregnated by The Force, and gave birth to Anakin, who was 'immaculately conceived'?
      - Was it a coincidence that Anakin's birth took place on the outer rim, where he wouldn't be discovered by the Jedi until age 9? (And developed normal human need for attachments?)
      - Was it a coincidence that Palpatine is presented with the perfect 'bait' in the form of Anakin - a super-powerful Jedi, with an incredibly strong tie to the Force, yet desperately in need
of a father who will (appear to) love him unconditionally (as Palpatine pretends to), and who is loyal to family in a way that no other Jedi is?
      - Does Padme seem like the sort of person who would fall in love with, and then MARRY, a man who had wiped out an entire village of Sandpeople, even as a quasi-act of just revenge?
      - When Owen and Luke are about to complete the purchase of C-3PO and the 'other' (red) R2 unit in 'A New Hope,' does that droid 'just happen' to blow a fuze at the right moment?
(so that R2-D2 ends up with Luke?)
If we look at the events through this frame, (of The Force as an Unseen Power, guiding events) then Anakin was clearly born into the universe (and into particular circumstances) to eventually sacrifice himself and to destroy the Sith. He didn't know any details. The only thing anyone knew, was that Prophecy mentioned a 'Chosen One,' and that he would bring balance to the Force. But, The Force knew exactly what it was doing, at every stage; Anakin was 'set up' by The Force to be a Savior/Messiah/human sacrifice (to save the Universe) from Day One.

And then the cycle repeats. The goal is that the remaining sith becomes more powerful than the last and so they grow stronger and stronger over time. If Vader wouldn't have gotten the suit and his injuries, then what Palpatine said here would have become reality most likely.

@@pricemaxer9736 In his crippled state, he was still several degrees more powerful than the surviving Jedi(save Yoda), but he was inevitably far weaker than Palpatine had wanted him to be.
Anakin was conceived by either Plagueis or Sidious/Palpatine(conflicting sources), who used the Force to immaculately conceive a child. As a result, Anakin's force potential is several orders of magnitude higher than any living Jedi, even Yoda. However, he lost ~40% of his body mass on Mustafar, and since the force flows through living tissue, this means he also lost a relative amount of his force potential.
For reference, Anakin's midichlorian count(and they are not the source of the Force, they merely translate to one's relative ability to draw upon the Force) was around 20,000 midi-chlorians per cell. For contrast, Yoda had 18,000 per cell and Obi-Wan had around 13,000(which is actually a pretty low number for a Jedi). When Anakin lost on Mustafar and lost 40% of his body mass, he also lost 40% of his total midi-chlorians(his per-cell count remains unchanged, he just has a lot less cells through which the Force can flow).
NORMALLY, this would have translated to a significant loss in overall Force ability, but Vader was able to substantially mitigate the loss by committing to the Dark Side with every fiber of his being. He became so immersed in the hatred and anger of the Dark Side that he made up much of the power he'd lost, though he still ended up being substantially(~20%) weaker than the Emperor, when Sidious himself anticipated that a fully Dark Side Anakin would have been far stronger than even he was.
It's sort of terrifying to imagine how powerful Anakin could have been had he defeated Obi-Wan on Mustafar. Padme would have received the best possible medical treatment and possibly even survived. Anakin would probably kill Palpatine in short order, but he doesn't have a mind for Empire management and lacks Palpatine's connections. However, it would surprise me deeply if the Clones did not have instructions to default to Anakin as the next highest authority in the event of Palpatine's death, regardless of circumstances, so Anakin would be in possession of the only significant military in the galaxy. Several small rebellions would inevitably break out, but I strongly believe Anakin would have redoubled the production of Clones (Vader had no taste for the Death Star or similar weapons), and by the original timing of Episode 4, he'd have brought the entirety of Hutt space to heel beneath his boot.
Not sure where things go from there. The biggest failing of the Dark Side is that it is a hole that can never be filled. "Emperor Skywalker" would have constantly been seeking new frontiers to conquer.

This is how it feels to be Anakin Skywalker, forever:
The first dawn of light in your universe brings pain.
The light burns you. It will always burn you. Part of you will always lie upon black glass sand beside a lake of fire while flames chew at your flesh.
You can hear yourself breathing. It comes hard, and harsh, and it scrapes nerves already raw, but you cannot stop it. You can never stop it. You cannot even slow it down.
You don’t even have lungs anymore.
Mechanisms hardwired into your chest breathe for you. They will pump oxygen into your bloodstream forever.
Lord Vader? Lord Vader, can you hear me?
And you can’t, not in the way you once did. Sensors in the shell that prisons your head trickle meaning directly into your brain.
You open your scorched-pale eyes; optical sensors integrate light and shadow into a hideous simulacrum of the world around you.
Or perhaps the simulacrum is perfect, and it is the world that is hideous.
Padme? Are you here? Are you all right? you try to say, but another voice speaks for you, out from the vocabulator that serves you for burned-away lips and tongue and throat.
Padme? Are you here? Are you all right?
I’m very sorry, Lord Vader. I’m afraid she died. It seems in your anger, you killed her.
This burns hotter than the lava had.
    No…no, it is not possible!
You love her. You have always loved her. You could never will her death.
    Never.
    But you remember…
    You remember all of it.
You remember the dragon that you brought Vader forth from your heart to slay. You remember the cold venom in Vader’s blood. You remember the furnace of Vader’s fury, and the black hatred of seizing her throat to silence her lying mouth…
And there is one blazing moment in which you finally understand that there was no dragon. That there was no Vader. That there was only you. Only Anakin Skywalker.
That it was all you. Is you.
    Only you.
    You did it.
    You killed her.
You killed her because, finally, when you could have saved her, when you could have gone away with her, when you could have been thinking about her, you were thinking about yourself…
It is in this blazing moment that you finally understand the trap of the dark side, the final cruelty of the Sith -
Because now yourself is all you will ever have.
And you rage and scream and reach through the Force to crush the shadow who has destroyed you, but you are so far less now than what you were. You are more than half machine, you are like a painter gone blind, a composer gone deaf, you can remember where the power was but the power you can touch is only a memory, and so with all your world-destroying fury it is only droids around you that implode, and equipment, and the table on which you were strapped shatters, and in the end, you cannot touch the shadow.
In the end, you do not even want to.
In the end, the shadow is all you have left.
Because the shadow understands you, the shadow forgives you, the shadow gathers you unto itself-
And within your furnace heart, you burn in your own flame.
This is how it feels to be Anakin Skywalker.
    Forever…

As Yoda came to realize, they were so focused on the future that they forgot to keep their concentration’here and now where it belongs’ as Qui Gon once said.
Plus the Jedi Order had become too dogmatic, arrogant, and too detached from others. The Jedi’s hypocrisy is that while they forbid attachment, they themselves were too attached to the Republic and the power that it gave them. The whole moral of the prequel story, was to show how the Jedi failed Anakin. Their treatment and handling of Anakin, was the reason why he turned to the dark side. The Jedi had lost their way, which was why Qui-Gon did not want to sit on the Council. He understood what was wrong and how they were on a wrong path, hence why he was also the only one who saw Anakin's potential to lead them into better ways. But the close-minded Jedi Council only saw a threat in the young boy, which was what pulled that boy towards the very darkness they feared. Had the Council tried to understand Anakin's pain and helped him properly, he could've brought balance to the force by becoming the mightiest Jedi of all time! But the Jedi Council's treatment of him, meant that the prophecy could only be fulfilled if Anakin turned to the dark side and destroyed the Jedi. Qui-Gon & Anakin embodied what the Jedi were really supposed to be, and Anakin knew that and that was his frustration throughout the prequels and the clone wars series.

A few examples (disclaimer: I haven't read books or comics, so written material may contradict this):
      - The first time Ventress appears (chronologically speaking), she already knows both Obi-Wan and Anakin. In the 2003 series she meets them for the first time, and I'm glad I can take her fight with Anakin as head-canon.
      - During an episode you see flashbacks of Ventress' story, and you can see glimpses of scenes taken almost directly from the 2003 Clone Wars, but animated in 3D.
      - In Season 7 Ep. 9, when the capture of the Chancellor is referenced, the few details given match perfectly with the way it was portrayed in the miniseries.

    @TheGreater-ScopeVillain Рік тому +2

One important thing to understand about Emperor Palpatine/Darth Sidious is that he is the most powerful being in the galaxy, not just in influence, but in the Force and as a warrior as well.
You were wondering how he struck Yoda down with Force Lightning when Yoda blocked Count Dooku’s. You must understand that Dooku is *_nowhere near_* as powerful as his Master, Darth Sidious. Sidious can (and has) defeated Dooku with a simple flex of his hand. Sidious is on a whole other level. That’s why Yoda ran from him in the end, because he realised that even he, the most powerful Jedi ever, could not defeat Darth Sidious in a fight.
Mace Windu also stood no chance. Palpatine could have defeated him at any point with ease if he wanted to, but instead he just killed the other Jedi instantly and allowed the fight to continue until he sensed Anakin arriving (as Palpatine had known he would), then he deliberately dropped his defences and allowed himself to be “defeated”, as he engineered this whole situation just to tempt Anakin into betraying Windu and the Jedi Order and sealing his allegiance into Darth Sidious and the Sith.
In that regard, even Anakin, the Chosen One, was nothing but talk when he claimed that it was “his” empire and that he would “overthrow” the Chancellor/Emperor. Realistically, Anakin/Vader stood no chance at doing that, and as shown in the canon lore, he would go on to be humbled by the Emperor numerous times throughout his life, to remind him that Darth Sidious is the supreme Sith, not Vader.
So the Emperor/Sidious is a villain who cannot be defeated in a straight-up fight - he’s too powerful. And although he knows he can beat anyone in the Force or lightsaber combat, that’s not how he chose to win; Palpatine won because he turned the entire galaxy against his enemies and got them to accept his absolute rulership over them.

The Clone War raged for over 3 years. I recommend watching the animated series, followed immediately by The Bad Batch (the run back to back, timeline wise). I'm just finding your channel, so I don't know what all you've seen already, so I'll just include some stuff from this movie alone, and put the complete timeline at the bottom. Don't discount/overlook the animated shows. I did, and regretted missing out on their initial run. But at least I was able to binge-watch them. If you've already seen the original trilogy, you should watch them again after everything leading up to them, as those movies and shows put the OT into a whole new context.
Episode I, Episode II, The Clone Wars (animated), Episode III, The Bad Batch (animated), Solo: A Star Wars Story, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor, Rebels (animated), Rogue One, Episode IV, Episode V, Episode VI, The Mandalorian (seasons 1 and 2), The Book of Boba Fett, The Mandalorian (season 3), (Ahsoka and Skeleton Crew have yet to release, but are supposed to be in this part of the timeline), Episode VII, Episode VIII, Episode IX.

After finishing off these movies, you guys have to see the Obi-wan Kenobi tv series which takes place 10 years after these events and that stars the same actors. There's also the 7th, 8th, and 9th movies in the saga which take place 30 years after the events of Revenge of the Sith! Also there's Rogue One which takes place between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, which stars an entirely new cast but nonetheless connects a few points between the movies. That's not to mention The Clone Wars series and the spin-off series like Book of Boba Fett and The Mandalorian.
If I could make a recommendation for the order of watching the next several movies and shows based on what I think is the general consensus in the Star Wars community and based on how much you recall from the episodes 4, 5, and 6, the order should be:
    - Rogue One
    - Force Awakens (Ep. 7)
    - The Last Jedi (Ep. 8)
    - The Rise of Skywalker (Ep. 9)
    - The Clone Wars (this might take a while and is animated so don't know how you feel about that. It will give you a much more in depth picture of the events that transpired between Episodes 2 and 3, and will also provide much more back story into Anakin and Obi-Wan's relationship not to mention Anakin's padawan. This series is great and helps clarify a lot of things that go on in the movies and tv shows)
    - Obi-Wan Kenobi tv series
    - The Mandalorian tv series
    - Book of Boba Fett tv series (If you don't recall, Boba Fett was a minor character that appeared in the original trilogy that didn't necessarily have a huge role but that would grow very popular with the Star Wars fanbase. If you recall, he appeared as a kid in Episode 2 and was the clone son of Jango Fett, the Bounty Hunter in that movie. You don't need to watch the original trilogy necessarily as the show provides enough flashbacks, but it might help.)
Also, the prevailing theory as to why Obi-wan let Darth Vader live is that he still saw him as his brother. He had just lost everything he knew at the hands of what he considered to be his closest friend and brother and was just too emotionally broken and couldn't muster up the courage to deliver the final blow as he said to Yoda. On the flip side, he was also incredibly overwhelmed with grief, anger, and heartbreak that Anakin killed so many innocent jedi that he thought letting Anakin burn was deserved. It's understandable as well that given the severity of Vader's injuries that he assumed that he was succumb to his injuries soon after.

That's not what happened. The Jedi lost their connection to the force because Palpatine, and Plagues threw the force out of balance on purpose to cloud the Jedi's vision and inact their Sith grand plan. It had nothing to do with the Jedi. Palpatine also forced the Jedi into a position where they had no choice but to become soldiers out of necessity. It was all just a perfect plan that was almost inescapable. The Jedi were obviously correct in the way they kept Anakin at arms length, but if Anakin would have just stayed in the council chambers Sidious would have lost, and Anakin would have immediately became a Jedi Master after the war. George Lucas talks about how the existence of the Sith actually affects the force, and it can't be put back into balance until the Sith are destroyed.
