    27:38, someone once called the relationship between Batman and Joker a homoerotic nightmare. Joker doesn't see Batman as an enemy to be stopped. He sees him as the other side of himself - the agent of order to his chaos. Almost like they are soulmates. LOL.
    In the comics, there have been people who have tried to out Batman's identity (like in this movie) or flat out end him's life. In some of those instances, the Joker has actually stepped up to stop them. He doesn't want Batman to die, he just wants him to pay attention and play the game.
    Some diehard fans and comics writers think the Joker actually has known for a while Batman is Bruce Wayne. But he doesn't see Bruce Wayne as a real person. He is simply the vessel that holds Batman. As Rachel said in the first movie "Bruce Wayne is the mask. Your true face is the one that Gotham's criminals fear"

    If you notice during the hospital scene where The Joker tells Harvey he's an agent of chaos, the Joker has his thumb on the Hammer of the gun the entire time. If Harvey had pulled the trigger, it wouldn't have gone off. He claims he's not a man with a plan, but he totally is.

    • @LucianDevine
      @LucianDevine 26 днів тому

      People keep saying that, but I 100% think he'd be willing to die for his cause. He wanted Batman to break his 1 rule. Harvey pulling that trigger helps prove his point as well, potentially leading up to the murders that follow as it allowed him to get the taste of it.

  • @rnkelly36
    @rnkelly36 29 днів тому +2

    This was the best of the 3 movies. Heath Ledger deserved the award he got for his portrayal of the Joker. The movie really captured what many of us older comic fans that grew out of the 1980s Batman stories. The Batman is not a good guy. Batman is just the other side of the coin with Joker. As Gordon says at the end of this movie "He is the hero Gothem deservers, He is not our white knight, he is our Dark Knight." It was in the 1980s we started seeing a turn in comics. The writing was that our so called heroes in comics are not the good guys. They all break laws. They are all damaged. Batman was the greatest of these in that he was a vigilante. He is as crazy as the bad guys. Heroes are the regular people that you know that rise to uncommon valor. Heroes don't wear masks but are the people you work with and go to service for society on a daily basis. The Dark Knight is trying to say this in this movie and they move on with that in the next.

    "What happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" is a limit test of Newton's laws of motion, which states all forces in opposition collide in equal and opposite reaction - but if one is immovable, and one is unstoppable,, what happens? It's an interesting thought experiment, because it suggests either both should stop and become immovable, both should start moving at unstoppable force, or.....both? Neither?
    As a metaphor, it's great for Batman, because as Joker says, Batman is truly incorruptible, and Joker is truly corrupting.

    Dark Knight is still singular superhero film and film in general. But even more so at the time it came out. The main solid entries prior to this were Batman Begins and the first 2 X-men movies, and it stands over them as something still different. It wasn't cartoonish and campy like older Batman movies (which may have their merits). And it doesn't drown you with visually meaningless CGI or dizzying multiverses. It's dark, but not gritty for gritty sake. And of course what folks said: Heath Ledger, rest in peace, was like nothing else.

    First of all I would like to start by saying “RIP Heath Ledger” who delivered a fantastic and memorable performance as The Joker as it is still appreciated till this day. The Dark Knight is a great movie as the story is lovely, the reasoning behind everything and it is so Joker focused. But for me what makes this film great are the dialogues like “You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain”, “Lets put a smile on that face”, “Some men just want to watch the world burn”, “Batman has no limits” etc add so much to the beauty of this film and these lines just tell us what the whole movie is all about and secondly this movie being Joker focused as I mentioned before. Christopher Nolan with another brilliant movie. Have a great one guys.

    I think the love interest characters both in this and spider-man are written to showcase a more human and reasonable perspective on the vigilante life.
    MJ in spider-man is already a girl with some childhood trauma due to her upbringing living in a home where the father was verbally abusive. So she has a lot of trouble with connecting with people in a more real sense. She usually gets with the more jocky type but its all very surface level. But when shes with Peter she feels So when Peter is transparently signalling that he is head over heels for her every single time they talk, and he then rejects her over and over again. She understandably feels very betrayed in some sense.
    With Rachel in The Nolan batman films, as she is a prosecutor she understands that the vigilante life is not sustainable. The girlfriend part of Rachel cannot stomach seeing the man she loves constantly putting himself in harms way over and over and over again. And the prosecutor in her says that they need robust legal systems that the people can rely on and feel safe with, because Batman cannot be there forever. No matter how much Rachel expresses either the prosecutor side or the love interest side to Bruce, he keeps on choosing Batman. As she said in the letter "But now I'm sure the day won't come when you no longer need the batman".
    She gave up on him because she couldn't stomach holding on to the more intimate romance between them while he was Batman.

    MCU didn't stand for Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2008. Only Iron Man and Incredible Hulk had come out at that point, and no one had coined the term 'Marvel Cinematic Universe' yet. Besides which, The Dark Knight was already finished months before Iron Man came out. In this case, MCU stands for Major Crimes Unit, which is an actual thing some police departments have, also known as a Major Case Squad. They typically investigate crimes like bank robbery. Which is what Jim Gordon's MCU is investigating at the start of The Dark Knight.

    Real fact monica, the actor the played the Joker in this movie died before the movie even released. People were doubting this casting before his death but when the film came Heath Ledger was the villain list before Thanos and his performance was amazing.

    Its my opinion that the Joker custom-designs his origin story to terrify the person he's talking to.

    1.)His origin was about a nightmarish father when talking to mobster Gambol, b/c, statistically, Gambol probably came from a fatherless broken home which helped direct him to a life of crime and in his heart of hearts Gambol would have liked to have a father. Moral of Joker's story to the gangster: "fear your dreams., son"
    2.)His origin about a woman robbed of her beauty which destroys her marriage was for Rachel, a woman beautiful enough to engage a good and important man. If she loses her beauty will her life be destroyed, too? If so, her beauty is her cage and time is her jailer. Moral of Joker's story to the girl: "fear your dreams, pretty lady."

    From 1989, when critics said (Jack Nicholson's) "Joker stole the show . It wasnt even about batman."
    I remember thinking.....you dont understand COMIC BOOK heroes. It's ALWAYS about the villain. NOBODY wants to see Superman manhandle muggers or Spiderman beat up bank robbers or Iron man take on terrorist henchmen.
    The hero is DEFINED by the villain they overcome. Super strong superman has to fight the super smart, the little spider has to fight the giant octopus and the Iron man must fight the Iron Giant.
    The more engaging the villain, the more we are enganged in the showdown.Thanos, Hannibal the Cannibal, Hans Grueber, and Darth Vader

    I think all of the jokers stories were true. the passion and details he puts into the things he says tells you everything you need to know about the joker. how to tell when the joker is lying, is when he tells stories with vey little passion put into the story he tells.

    54:13 - Yes, in the scene with psycho and Harvey, the authors showed the violent side of the character. But the only joke is that he flipped a coin to decide the fate of this unfortunate man. It was a psychological trick. Later, when Harvey gives the coin to Rachel, it comes to the realization that Harvey did not intend to kill him, since the two sides of the coin are the same.
    I should also note that on the first viewing, I was very struck by Rachel's death. It didn't fit in my head, how? In the first movie, they had such a cool backstory, and that's how it ended? But this is not a minus, but on the contrary, a very successful decision necessary for the development of the plot and the transformation of Harvey into a Two-face.
    Harvey Dent is one of the most tragic characters in this film, if not the most tragic. I love and hate his story at the same time. It hurts every time to look at what he became in the end.
    There is little to add about the Joker. Everything is said in the reaction and very well said)
    Bruce's story is also tragic, but it seems to me that the Joker, as it was correctly said, strongly attracts more attention.
