The funny thing is it's not even THAT BAD. The problem is more the delivery. It would be a typical kids movie line if a comic relief character said it. One that had been firing off one liners all movie. But this one basically just kinda turns good at the end and changes characer. It feels so off for so many reasons.
Sure it's not in any way a good line but it's just a normal lame pun that was given some of the worst delivery I've ever seen.

Richard Zenteno Prince of Egipt is by no means underrated. It's a masterpiece and everyone who was alive in that year knew it

well, when it comes to the girl wanting to be a knight... while that is just straight up impossible, as it is the title of a male lesser noble and a military rank, she can be granted the alternative title of a Dame instead. Dames are the female equivalent to the more well known Knight and were usually the wives of knights. They also had military duties, so when their husbands were away for whatever reason, it would be up to the Dame to take command of her household soldiers and defend her home from outside attacks. They were pretty cool. So while the girl in this film would never be given the title of knight, she could be granted the feminine equivalent instead... just thought I'd share that.

I think the reason why putting Excalibur back on the stone didn't magically heal Garrett's eyes was because it was caused by a fire accident,whereas the rest were caused by magic(don't know if the same applies to Arthur's injured arm)
I thought Garrett got kicked in the face by a horse, which caused his blindness.
@@ExplorerDS6789 it did. As far as why his eyes weren't healed, I'd like to think it was because he had accepted his blindness, and he didn't feel like it was a handicap.
But what about the dragons? They were able to separate and they didn’t have any of the magic.
@@hoobadooba2000 for them, I think it was their strong desire to be separated, bit then of course they decided to stay together since they had learned to work as a team. Desire may also explain Garret's situation; there was a time when he felt his blindness was something that would cause Kayley to not truly love him, but them he realized that wasn't the case and was okay with staying blind.

My father and I watched this video when it first came out. I had just bought him a google chromecast and was showing him youtube. To this day, we still quote this video. I don't know why, but we made it some kind of inside joke. Whenever we watch a movie and we dont understand, we yell "movie, explain!!!". And what you say about the bad guy at the beginning is just comedic gold.
My father and I were talking the other day, and he said he thinks this is the best video he's ever seen. Thank you for bringing such joy to our lives.

The dragons looked disappointed when they were back to being two-headed, tho; hence the part of the movie I posted I got confused over
It's simple. The magic could only heal what was damaged by magic or magic adjacent. His blindness wasfrom a fire a while ago hence his ability to navigate so flawlessly without sight.

It's amazing how he tears apart the line "The Ogre's butt!" and doesn't even acknowledge the moment immediately following that, where the ogre just blasts Ruber and his griffin through the cave with a fart. Easily the stupidest, funniest, and most memorable moment in the film 😂
At 0:50 he says "medieval blast from the ass" which I've always wondered was a reference to that scene.

Critic, you forgot to mention that the double dragon got separated at the end only to be stuck together again somehow.... "EXPLAIN MOVIE.. EXPLAIN!"
They wished for something so much the magic that exuded from the re-sealing of Excalibur split them. But then put them back together when they realized they were happier together as one unit.

I like it when light-hearted music plays over intense action scenes. That's what made the opening to Deadpool fucking awesome.

Yes but deadpool has an entire comedic undertone, while this movie is supposed to be taken seriously. It works well in deadpool because of his character and his mindset.

Not to mention them being knighted followed by them riding off in a horse with the sign Just Knighted on the back makes like it was more their wedding. Which when I saw it in theaters was sweet and confusing. It still is but the confusion overshadows the sweet

Not as painful as that animation collision between a bad imitation of traditional and what looks like early experimentation of CGI.
I first watched this movie in 5th grade when the entire grade had a day to watch movies and relax. Then the song at 17:00 starts playing, and the teacher literally paused the movie and asked the class if they wanted to skip the song. The class unanimously let out a big "YES"

Same. I can see why he'd hate it, but I still like this movie.
And the songs. I always thought that Rubert's song was supposed to be deliberately bad, to mock the "villain gets the best song" trope.

Honestly the biggest problem with his villain song is that it's too short. It doesn't go long enough to me a memorable song in any real way

This movie made perfect sense when I was a kid. I must've been a bit simple.
Having said that, "It's magic, a wizard done it" probably suffices as an explanation for pretty much everything in this film.

I loved this film as a kid. I don't know why, I think because we didn't have it on VHS so I only saw it a few times when I took it out from the library.
I loved this film as a kid too and have it on VHS don't know where it is now though. Which is why I was hesitant to watch this because Nostalgia Critic would rip on it and not only would I watch my childhood die I would realize how bad it was and how much my childhood sucks. This is not the first movie I watched as a kid that years later he would review either. Although I am glad I did decided to watch this one cause I am getting hooked after that squeezing the horse to get a song joke.
Everyone goes though that phase.
Plot Twist: King Arthur was the villain setting all the betrayals and deaths into motion and the one who really had the affair with Sir Lancelot!
You know I think I know why I liked this movie a lot more than most: the voice acting was actually good in my language.
It was an okay movie. It definitely was not a bad movie. That’s for sure

Actually, they did explain, you have to pay attention. Take the leaves. Garrett stated that Aiden helped him to see in the forest and learned what can harm you and what can heal you. When he got injured, Kayley picked those purple leaves. They were the same leaves Garrett picked when he said, "and what can heal you." I'm not advocating that it's a good movie but it's not as bad as you're billing it up to be. They do explain some of the things that you thought didn't make sense, it just went over your head.
Okay, problems with this:
1. How can he see that the leaves heal when he CAN'T see?
2. If the leaves heal, why didn't he just use them to cure his blindness?

2. Maybe there aren't any plants that can hear blindness or maybe they smell/feel almost the exact same as a very poisonous plant and he doesnt want to risk it.

Camelot ties into about Avalon and Merlin. Magic, magical creatures ect, are all very real in that story. Absolutely agree a lot of things went over his head. The chicken, for example, is seen in the background seeing how awful his chicken wife has been treated, "promising" her to make it better. It was not out of nowhere, and yeah there might not have been any dialogue, but it was right there.
Critic, to be fair about kaley running away: how do you expect her to fight living weapons? She has no fighting experience

I personally think Bladebeak had a reason to turned good in the climax, because he was Kayley's pet chicken on the farm, He was not evil or a jerk and I don't think he was helping Ruber at all, he was just there to tell him that Kayley, Garrett and Ayden are going after Excalibur and he serves him his lunch, he was useless for Ruber's plans, so he sends him back to the wagons with Juliana and his wife, which is another reason why he turned good, so he can see his wife again.
Also, throughout his scenes you could see a hen that I assumed was either his mother or his girlfriend, and they looked at each other with a twinge of sadness constantly up until he turned on Ruber, where they were seemingly chatting. I haven't seen the film in like 17 years at least, but I did notice and remember them
There are a lot of things this film doesn't explain, but it's annoying when they actually DO explain something and it's his most OTT reaction. Although granted not well explained.

I feel sorry for Kaley. All she wanted was to be a knight, but she keeps needing someone else to rescue her. At least she was able to warn King Arthur by knocking that guard out of the wagon.

That wasn't her fault, they decided to write her that way.
Yeah, I've never had a problem with the Damsel in Distress trope as I believe that using a loved one of any gender as motivation is just an old harmless trope that makes for easy heroic motivation.
However, I do have a problem when the trope takes an otherwise capable female character - or someone who is being built-up to be a capable female character - and nerfs them or ruins their potential just to put them into a "damsel in distress" situation.
Kayley spends the entire movie driving home her point about becoming a knight in spite of her gender - and then winds up needing to be rescued by blind guy.

Definitely, I've always rejected this notion of "damsels in distress" always being sexist objects that need saving and therefore anyone that uses the trope is a misogynist asshole, one not every character (female included) needs to be a bow/gun toting warrior, aside from that everyone needs help sometimes, even amazing warriors, however it does become a problem when a badass female character suddenly loses all of her badassery for the sake of a plot point

Let's not forget that the hawk's "flying" sound near the end is actually a royalty free sound effect, which you may recognize from Wizard 101.

It also wiped his brain of anything clever and handed him that potion.
This movie came out a year before Mulan.

@@Wubsy96 Well I graduated from my degree last year, but I am currently doing a part time Masters degree, also in animation. Plus I am working as a designer and animator on a Welsh web series called The Vale and I have a part time job as a children’s book illustrator.
Technically, Kayley would be a Dame but not a knight. I watched this several times including recently and every point in this review is sadly true.
I am pretty sure there was at least a sign that explained the forest was a magical, enchanted forest, or cursed maybe. Something to that effect. Of any case it can be explained it is because of magic, what more do you need?
The chicken' betrayal is also explained by that 2-sec animation with the hen. He overreacted on many levels

Tbh I always thought the song "The Prayer" works fine with the chase scene.
After all, it's a song about, well, a prayer for safety. Its basically the character singing for Kaylee to be safe as she flees for her life.
It's not supposed to be an action scene.
I remember loving this movie as a kid. Saw it come up on Netflix once as an adult and decided to give it a nostalgic watch. I then realized how bad a movie it was and it has forever clouded my original enjoyment of it as a kid.
Sometimes, you have to leave things you liked as a child in the realm of nostalgia, untainted by you adult sensibilities.

OH MY GOD, "do I feel clucky" This was literally the most cringy and simply THE WORST line I have EVER witnessed in any movie ever made xD it was SO BAD!

My theory is that "I want" songs correlate with the action of feeding animals on a farm because of Fiddler on the Roof.
It's a way of underscoring the humble origins of the hero or heroine too.

Gotta say you're wrong about "The Prayer" scene. The lyrics "I pray she'll be alright...lead her to a place where she'll be safe" actually work perfectly for someone running away. The fervent, beautiful prayer contrasted with the very evil it cries against is an awesome concept. Of course, ax-chickens and weird denizens kinda ruin the moment.
I felt the song worked perfectly for that scene as well.

I think the song would have worked well enough if they used more frightening bad guys chasing her and cut out all the noise, leaving us with a more dramatic moment
I really liked this movie when I was small because the main character was pretty, her love interest was cool -- I thought he was a unique character & he's really *the only* interesting thing in this movie, and I liked one song -- just one single song. *Everything else in this movie sucked* which kept me from loving it. *The blind guy should've been the main character.* The movie would be far more interesting that way. Seeing how he copes with life and triumphs over battles and challenges using his wits. To me, the few scenes where he fought and traversed while blind is what made the movie memorable.

This is still one of my favorite NC reviews. This movie was a complete mess and a painful attempt to imitate Disney instead of successfully challenging it like Prince of Egypt and Anastasia did.
the only reason it was was a mess because that the movie was about to be a pg - 13 movie but then warner bros made it a disneyfy film.

This movie is actually a guilty pleasure for me and my family. We all know it's bad. We just love to watch and make fun of it every now and then.

Wait.... wait. When everyone gets healed it shows the dragons split up... but then they are back together again like 10 seconds later when they're standing around with the sword in the stone. Whaaaaaat the fuck happened there?

Over the course of the movie, the dragons learned the lesson that being together has its advantages over being on their own (what they're hoping for in the beginning). When Excalibur works it's magic, it lasts long enough to grant them their initial wish but then also to change their minds and put themselves together again.
This movie never explains anything, why the hell should it start now?!

Explained simply; during the scenes of the transformations; they split. They then jumped towards each other and merged again, because they like being together. *shrug*

I'm pretty sure someone mentioned this in the original review, but one of the people who worked on this movie was Lauren Faust, the creator of MLP: Friendship is Magic. She's not very proud of this project, she said it was supposed to be darker and not a musical, but the executives wanted something akin to the popular Disney films, thus giving birth to this piece of shit.

An executive's job is to know what the audience wants and shot down they think will fail and approve idea's that they believe will be a success. They are basically idea reviewers.
A lot of time they actually DO do their job but it's hard to know they are. The only way you know is when a director has a hit with a movie that had lots of executive meddling but movies he has full control over suck.

The movie, though near and dear to me, absolutely has its issues, but the part where Garret decides to stay in the forest because he’s afraid that how she sees him would change just yanks the heart strings every time.

They did explain why the forest did what it did. It's a magic forest.

well, for one, the sketch had an important mission, even if it was too much: The movie asks you to take for granted many things, too much (the last twist, for example, doesn't make the least bit of sense. If Excalibur destroyed its wielder if they were of less-than-pure heart, you'd think a round table knight would be knowledgeable of that...)
And another thing: He is perfectly conscious that a movie can not be 100% transparent on his universe and still be good, as represented by the last sketch, with Mary Poppins: A movie that never, ever explains anything, but he really likes it.
I will always love this movie, it might be crap to everyone but it's close to my heart.. I love the songs and the characters, to me this movie never gets old.. One of my favorites, yeah it sucks to everyone, but I love it regardless

I think the "ACME" placement just references Looney Tunes. Critic said Quest was a WB production, and WB did those LT cartoons, so this is just a nod to that. Anyone familiar with Acme (especially Wile E. Coyote) is gonna understand that.
