Thx for your awesome take on Aiden O'Connell. I love the guy. I talk about him to everybody (online chat mostly and my roommate - a steelers fan). No one wants to hear it. I try to let them know that he led the Raiders to SEVEN touchdowns against the Chargers on the way to 63 - 21 beatdown with 3 TD's himself. I point out how he threw one int in the last 6 games against 8 TD's. They don't want to hear it.
Gardner Minshew is a servicable backup who we way overpaid. O'Connell going to ball out this year imo.
I think we should sit tight at thirteen and take the best offensive lineman available at that time.
Oh and one other thing about O'Connell - every game he played last year, he had 4 or 5 passes that were just absolute dimes that only top QB's, imo, can make. Yeah. He had some throws behind crossing receivers which is a throw he needs to improve on but still, he made some truly amazing throws.

I agree Hondo. The disrespect of this kid goes beyond just his ability or whatever things are being said about him negatively. Raider Nation, sure as shit, didn’t forget his name on Christmas Day now did they? He didn’t throw a pass for the last three quarters of the game and still beat Mahomes. He’s extremely intelligent and his football IQ is off the charts. He plays within himself and he plays smart football. Sure, a few rookie mistakes after getting thrown into the fire by JM who was obviously trying to ruin this kids career by not preparing him the way he should have. The way JM handled AC4 was unforgivable and fortunate for AC4 AP believed in him and is giving him a shot by calling him the starter. That’s what you do to build up a players confidence. AP is now restoring that damage and then the kid comes out and wins 5 games for us. If anybody saw the preseason game where he played like sizzled veteran I’m telling you he looked like Dan Marino throwing darts out there! This kid has flashed on several different occasions and every time he steps on the field he looks to get better each time. This kid is the underdog here just like he was at Perdue until he was finally given his chance after like 7 other QBs before finally getting his chance and look what he did there? I for one am all in on Aiden O, Connel and wouldn’t it be something after all this smoke and fire clear out if he’s the last one standing and was all along the Franchise QB everyone overlooked…..

O'Connell was the best rookie in the pre season and was clearly better than Jimmy and Hoyer without the 1st team reps. I think he won the Job but McDaniels being as stubborn as he is refused to budge. Plus how do you explain that to Mark Davis? Paying Jimmy all that money to get benched by a 4th rounder. Would have been a bad look for Josh.
I'm 56 years old and I have been a Die Hard Raider fan since Ken Stabler and John Madden was the coach and I have to agree with Hondo AOC is a walk-on in college and had to fight like a true Raider to earn his respect take that innocent look he has and put that helmet on and watch what Hondo is talking about
Same here. I'm 57 and used to hang with the boys at Ricky's Sports Bar, just down the road from Oakland Coliseum. This kid reminds me of Plunkett. With a good running game, good O-line, and Dominant Defense, you don't need a mobile QB.

@kendallevans4079 I do too, but it's highly unfair to judge him based on a handful of games, where he had a coach intentionally sabotage him, and then not have a true OC. I'd like to see him with a full set of OTAs and mini camp, before just throwing him out. I think it'll be interesting to watch him compete with Minchew

Aidan O'Connell actually won the job out of training camp last year. McDaniel just didn't give it to him. He was the top passer in the preseason. DeVante Adams said O'Connell came in from the jump and established himself and opened everyone's eyes! Minshew and anybody else they bring in will have a hard time beating him out. Facts 💯

Yeah he can throw, but is a sitting duck with a blitz....3rd down sacks are drive killers and make a huge difference in game dynamics, field position time of possession etc etc..

I've been totally on board with Aidan O'Connell and also believe he has traits of Tom Brady. Very accurate and doesn't scramble. He should have a valid shot at QB #1.

Good to hear Hondo defending Aidan. Aidan had his rookie moments for sure but finished playing really well. Build the Oline and continue to strengthen the defense.
I just pray that the Raiders org doesn’t listen to the Raider fans. Aidan can be as productive as Jared Goff. Surround him with a great line and great skill players and Raiders will be fine I believe.

There hasn't been a big sample size to tell what AOC can be. They need three QBs, so for those two reasons they are going to draft a QB without moving up.

I believe The Raider's will in fact make a move in the Draft for our Next QB Look at the Top teams in the NFL there are QB's that lead there team in Rushing in many of there Games which in Most cases leads them to Victory . for Example Mahomes, Allen, Jackson,Wilson etc AOC who I like is Not yet shown us that he can follow suit . We need Fire Power at QB to compete in this League and Most def in Our Division. It's Just that simple it doesn't take a Rocket scientist to figure that out. QB AOC
I don't know what people were watching last season, but AOC performed pretty dam good.
The issue with Aiden O'Connell is he disappeared in key games, Chief's and Viking's games. Defense carried the Raiders to several wins through the 2022-23 season with Aiden not performing. He has earned the right to compete for the job, but every QB should have that option. I do believe drafting a QB is smart.
O'Connell should progress big time going next season I been reviewing his Purdue days and the Raider games. I see talent! Many don't believe in him cause his style is not a Kyler Murray or Lamar or Josh Allen. But he gets it done his way. Since when has a seasonal winning Raiders QB ever been a "dual threat" qb? Never has, been mobile at best and Aiden can move if he needs too. The GOATS have all been pocket passers, RB QBs like Mariota, Kaepernik are fun to watch but have never come close to the GOATs like Momtana Brady Peyton etc...

Take the San Diego game out of the stats in that 5 game stretch. Now he has 4 TDs in 4 games, has a 3-0 loss to Minnesota, and threw 9 complete passes against KC. O'Connell also did not outplay Herbert. Herbert had 3 TDs in the 1st game. O'Connell had 0. Herbert had a 72.7 QBR. O'Donnell had a 68.1. Stop lying.
I have felt strongly that O'Connel will probably start over any QB they get in the draft, regardless of the hype because of the learning curve rookie QB's go through.

With everyone looking for QBs and WRs, Raiders can solidify their O-line by picking an elite Tackle and a Right Guard in the first three rounds.
This will set up the Raiders line for the next 5-10 years. Moreover, you will get the best out of the current QBs.
You cant really praise AOC for the win over KC. Did he even complete a pass in the 2nd half? I am for giving him a chance sure, but in no way am I completely sold on him.

Sam LaPorta was taken in the second round by the Lions right before the Raiders selected Mayer. He outperformed Mayer by a country mile! He had 86 receptions 10 touchdowns and was a better blocker than Mayer. Only a fan like Hondo could make that statement about Mayer ending up being the best TE from this class.
I think AOC being the franchise QB is a very bold statement. He isn't bad, and better than nothing but if we have the opportunity to move up for Jayden Daniels that's the move to make. If not drafting a OL and interior DL in the first and second makes more sense. Maybe trade up into mid/late 2nd if there is a guy worth the value rolling the dice on. He is the QB1 right now and will be until we get a better option. He is going to have to have a big improvement to stay that though. As far as AP saying he is the guy doesn't make him a the solid #1 QB. AP also said we isn't looking for a Band-Aid option QB and he isn't said AOC isn't a band-aid QB. It's a Schrodinger cat scenario in this moment at best.
I am starting to hear more and more Jordan Travis, QB for Fla. St. Not sure what round. That prediction is all over the place. Usually, anywhere from Round 3 thru Round 5.

I gotta push back on the AOC narrative. Nobody wants to get rid of AOC, at worst case scenerio he's a great QB2 at a cheap price. Best case he's a league average QB1. At this point I'm not sold that he can be an above average QB1 especially with his lack of mobility and escapability. I appreciate that he took care of the ball and had some strong games, but his lack of making a play when things broke down and lack of ability to make anyone miss when pressured is going to limit his ceiling. The Raiders are really rolling the dice if they are going to go with Mishew/AOC. I love both those guys, but they are who they are. They need help to win, they cant put a team on their back. It will be interesting to see how it all unfolds.

If select Penix jr just like the Defensive trenches you have solidify those spots. We should continue with the same process throughout free agency and the draft. Our draft should be an offensive one if we’re smart.
I love Davante Adams, but de had a few drops that would have helped AOC, I think he is get started for the Raiders next year
AOC's problem is his cement feet. Without the best OL in there league it's hard to see him being too successful. He's had some success and will probably get better. But, I don't think he will win on a consistent basis. I hope I'm wrong, cuz I would love to see him win.

O'Connell isn't the starter, and it's not his job to lose, minshew is the starter because the raiders aren't trading up for a qb or drafting one with the 1st pick. O'Connell and the offense were still bottom 10 I dont know what this guy is talking about that O'Connell has done enough to be the starter.
Aiden needs to throw the ball more he just needs more confidence in himself, throwing the ball, and he needs to be consistent with his passes.

I agree about the Kansas City game.as a raiders fan the defense and special teams won that game.We will take it though.Because Kansas City is no slouch team by any means.They have flaws like every team.Like the 2023 raiders raiders offensive line.Gm Tom Telesco and AP are on it though.And it should be allot better.ive seen AOC do a little scrambling aroundthrowing the ball on the move running for yardage and even running for touch downs.Ive even seen him jump up in the air and complete a ball in the middle.He needs to learn how to relia on his outside receivers more.I think that is why hunter Renfro and the others left.But He has more than that potential a skill he needs to hone in on.Or the shotgun position to by a few seconds to at least get the ball to one of the outs.So they could get some yardage instead of going down or fumbling the ball.He might might need to learn how to read the defenses better.So he will know .if he's got time enough to get it to the out or wr.instead of loseing yardage or throw away the ball.maybe this year he will use his out more and pick up a thousand yards.it must have been.hell for hunter and waller.To not be able to participate not being able to participate and contribute to their team anymore.So they left.

@1:25 I can completely agree with Hondo. It is distasteful the way a lot of Raider Nation is treating (talking) about AOC. RN has become a toxic environment, possibly due to almost a decade of huge missteps in firings, cuts of players and coaches. I don't see us going after a QB in the 1st round, My bet is a "Shut down" Corner or TE. Possibly OL.

Truth of matter is jj is a game manager. He never had to put the team on his back and win games. He always has a top 5 running attack and harbaugh always put him in a great spot. Ex= he had 34 4th qtr passes last year. 1 300yd passing game. 1/2 his td came from 3 teams. Only 1 td pass last 4 reg.games. hes never threw 3000yds in season. Game manager

I'd draft that CB in first round. Perhaps we can get Spencer Rattler in 3rd or 4th round
Finally someone saying what ive been saying. Ppl act as if AOC didn't show he can Win. He played better than every rookie QB besides Stroud. I still want to draft Penix, Daniels or Milton. But AOC has shown he deserves a chance and it's his job to lose

If Beats are smart they better trade that 1st overall pick to the Commanders n pick up atleast a future 2nd round pick just to allow Commanders to select Caleb where he really wants to play. Bears then should select LSU kid 👍🏿
Did you misspell that guy's name? Homer Carpenter, is it? The Raiders are the worst drafting team in the NFL. The Raiders have the absolute worst front office. They did not manage anything well. They went complete woke by firing Jon Gruden. They did not trade Jacobs when it was clear he is soft, in more ways than 1. They replaced Carr with an injured QB. Their OL was terrible last year. They are being cheap. They wanted to sign Kliff Kingsbury for OC but were too cheap to give him a longer contract. They settled for Luke Getsy who has an unremarkable career outside of his time working with GB when he had one of the best QB's in football. Granted Adams was there. Granted Rogers was throwing to him. Umm...homer? Raiders are so bad at drafting they should trade down several times in every round.
I like the QB but he doesn't seem to have a strong arm but I like him but to beat the Chiefs and be a champion we need a very good quarterback and he seems average at best we can win with him but I want SBs and I don't think of him that way

@@GMoney_1975 Yep he only threw like 5 more passes after the 1st quarter. I think and 2 were drops. (Something like that). We were choking the Chiefs out and not taking any chances. Get use to that with AP as coach. That wasn't on AOC he did exactly what he was told. Z White was gashing them and our D shut them down.

Do not trade up. Build with the picks we have. DO NOT waste picks to move up for an unknown. AOC was the 2nd best rookie QB last year, and he came in the 4th round. Consider that AOC, Bo, and AP were stuck with the JMD dink and dunk playbook. AOC is accurate, can SEE the field (unlike Carr), and has poise (again, unlike Carr). He will benefit greatly from a full off season with a new OC and playbook. How many first round QBs the last few years are not worth their cost, including the cost of lost future picks.
Good teams and dynasties build through the draft with the picks they have. Any id10t can blow the future to move up for a top prospect. The problem is that most don't pan out and you are left with holes in your roster and no picks to fill them. You then turn to FAs which break the bank and cause cap issues. Build with the picks you have. Use rookie contracts to manage the cap and afford key FAs.
We need the best CB at 13. If a good QB prospect falls to round 2, then jump. Otherwise, we need a LB, a DT, RT and OL depth. We have money for free agency, and a great GM finds value (OL) in the mid and late rounds. Finally, stay away from players with injury issues in the early rounds, and in FA.
