What we know about Aiden is that he was a fourth round pick, third string QB who became a starter and played better than the number one overall pick and the fourth overall pick. If he was a first round pick many people would be excited about his development.
He’s not mobile and he misses throws he’s not that guy Jack . He’s not that guy.

Aidan is a potential perennial starter in this league. Give him an offseason under his belt and consistency with an offense and he could be a capable starter, possibly more. Having him and signing Minshew affords them the luxury of not being pressured in to getting a QB in the 1st round.
Aiden O'Connell finished as the SECOND BEST rookie QB in the league. NOT levits, not Richardson, not young... but O'Connell.... Lets not forget Jordan Love was called a Bust the first 2 years of his career, only because he was a late round pick. Give the kid a real shot...

QBs often develop dramatically between year 1 and 2. Aidan did well as a rookie. Give him a chance to at least play in pre-season to show what he can do.
Pre season MVP. He did great last year. I’d be more than ok going into the season with both just Aidan and Gardner
You need 2 viable QBs now anyway given all the injuries going on. That's the new reality.
correction. AP has been supporting and backing AOC from jump. He knew the pulse of the team after Mcdaniels left, Aiden was the best QB on the roster last year; proven through practice, meetings, and preseason action. First move AP made was to put Aiden in when he took over. .... No matter who we bring in, they will have to beat out AOC. .. competition is always needed at all positions.
AOC4 was a good rookie. He ran the offense for 49 points in the game where they scored 63. I think he will have a good second year and will progress.
A game where the defense obviously didn't care to play and was trying to get their coach fired is nothing to brag about

I feel Minshew earned a shot at QB1 with his play last year. He is better than you realize and manages a game pretty well
Don’t underestimate AOC. A very respected source says AOC is taking on agility & movement drills with trainers. To improve in that area. A weakness. And AOC has major arm talent.
AOC still has potential, I think he could be the long term answer if he continues to develop and understand defenses and play on schedule in the offense. He got swamped those first few starts cause he held the ball too long but the longer he played the game seemed to start slowing down for him and I don’t think it is out of the realm of possibility he shows exponential growth in year two and hangs onto the job. But you also need to remember he was drafted by Ziegler. Telesco and AP might want their own hand picked young guy in the building too.
I remember a veteran QB many years ago that everyone discounted until he became the QB of the Raiders, he then proved to the World that he was an MVP Caliber QB. Man how fast 20yrs goes bye 😂
Let’s not forget when Aiden started he didn’t get the ota’s an the mini camps so he’s already behind the 8 ball with a limited playbook. Give this guy a full season and then criticize, because I haven’t seen enough from him to say no way.

Look at the quote that you placed up there again. He's not saying that Aiden hast to compete for the job he saying that whatever we do have to go through Aidan. That means he's the starter and anybody that wants to take the job from him hast to do so. That's how I'm reading that. He and the locker room have complete confidence in him, but they did say that they were going to bring more quarterback competition in.
I hate how everyone thinks AOC is a throw away. Look at Brady, he would have got trashed in this media era
tom brady is 6'4 with a 6'6 wingspan. He could throw the ball 70 yards at his first pro bowl and only got better. Please do not follow media narrative of Brady being unathletic.
I’d say Aiden currently has the edge, just because of his familiarity with Raiders roster but he’s gonna have to outwork Minshew & from what AP & the players have said about AOC4, the kid is a worker! I also doubt we’ll be drafting a QB in the 1st round!Regardless, I’m looking forward to this upcoming season! 🏴☠️
He may not have all the physical skills but I don’t think there are many people who outwork Gardner Minshew. His whole career is a story of a guy busting his ass to get the most out of himself as possible.

It'll be harder to trade up next year we'll likely pick higher now is the time besides you want your QB developing now so in 25 we're not relying on a rookie

I think with AOC we gotta take note that mcdaniels wasn't giving him reps with the 1st or 2nd string squad at all. He didn't get to work with them and the play book pretty much till pierce took over. He played well but he needs to work on his pocket awareness cuz he'll never be a runner so some more awareness should do him good.
Aiden I respect and think he's somewhat earned a shot at being qb1, Minshew isn't a bad option either. I like the qb room so far now let's add some depth, maybe a Jordan Travis if healthy in the 2nd or 3rd round.... Thoughts ?
What he meant was no matter what there will be competition for the starting quarterback spot. The starting spot is earned not given. They could draft a quarterback in the number one spot and that quarterback will still have to earn it that's what he means

Aiden has a live arm , seems pretty accurate and will have a whole offseason and training camp to know the new system and be ready to roll

Aidan O'Connell has the slowest read progressions I've ever seen in my life. He has zero scrambling ability. He has zero ability to read a defense and adjust at the line of scrimmage. He overthrows wide-open touchdown passes to wide open wide receivers by 10 ft at least once a game. Zero emotion whatsoever if he throws a pick 6 or throws a touchdown he has that same dumb look on his face. And on top of all of those horrendous quarterback traits he's a fourth-round draft pick by the worst head coach in the history of the NFL. 🎤 💧 FACTS
@@MicDropFacts ya can't check at the line if you don't know the offense like that, he was a rookie who had 0 prep to start, reading defenses is something he will get better at with a whole off season to prepare, he has to work on accuracy a bit but a lot of that is also just not quite having the timing and repore with the WRs yet
I love the idea of loading up on defense to take down the Chiefs in the West. It's too long a shot to overtake their offense and a number one defense beats a number one offense 9 times out of 10.
I say more defense and o-line. That's IT.
Um....watch his highlight reels.....he throws dimes, doesn't throw INTs (last 5 games) and doesn't fumble. Game management is exceptional as well. Minshew will compete, but Aidan is VERY underrated.

He's a talented pocket passer but even if he polishes the mistakes from last year he will depend his whole carreer on the OL playing a great game (Our OL was top 10 last year in pass protection, they just sucked terribly in run blocking, but he and JG just held the ball way too long - that's related with MCDummy calling stupid plays I know but it was still a problem). He might be the less athletic qb in the league and he's entering his 2nd year.... I just think defenses are too fast and athletic nowadays for us to bet on a qb that simply can't move even if his life depends on it. He's coming into the league 2 decades too late in my opinion. Even Brady as great as he was wouldn't have the same succes now. You need too scramble a bit, no need for a Lamar Jackson but you need to move and improvise sometimes. He just can't.

Unless there's a Marino or Elway level QB coming out in this year's draft, I don't see the compulsion to draft one in the first round at #13 or trading picks to move up. O'Connell has the potential, and they're paying him a rookie contract. Draft and free agency a better supporting cast on offense at least with the first two picks. I understand AP is a defensive side of the ball guy, and we could use a couple more pieces over there, but to me its pretty solid over there. #13 is a limbo spot. It's close enough to get someone quality right there, but the price is too high to justify moving up for one of these QB's.

Aiden had 2200 12 /7 picks 5 picks in 2 games. He put up 63, no turnovers last 5 games. Don't look at the K.C. game like he didn't complete a pass in the 2nd half. Look at it loke he didn't make a mistake against the SB Champs.

Bears, patriots, vikings and broncos should be the only other teams drafting a qb, and maybe the commanders since they traded sam howell. All the other teams ahead of the raiders on the draft have something they can work with. The raiders should be able to pick up someone good without trading up, to be safe maybe trade up but idk who or what theyll give up

Aidan earned the right to compete, not be given the starter job I think. He showed flashes last year with a dysfunctional head coach in McDaniels and being throwin into the frying pan. He also threw 7 picks, and they weren’t pretty either. I say raiders go Nix or Penix and they compete in camp
Both quarterbacks are equal at this point. May the best man win the starting job, including any rookie draft pick.

Real simple, get good QBs into camp and see who does well. I still expect the Raiders to draft another QB at some point in the draft. Just not in the first round.
I was curious about Aidan's release time. While not comprehensive, vs the Giants he had a 2.13 second release. He was much slower in his 1st start. So he is willing to adjust. A lot of Raiders fans want Jayden Daniels and he has a long sling motion, elbow problems and comes in at 2.91 seconds. That is a recipe for fumble city. Oh and Raider fans must remember college stats from Louisiana don't always translate. Raiders drafted another slow motion QB before. He became the worst bust in the history of the NFL, even without the cough syrup. Raiders should be thinking OT #13 not trading up for a QB nowhere near as good or ready as the one you've already got.

Their both good.although the coaches have to brake the conception that their not good enough.with minshew the way i look at it he's being reformed into a better player than what he was. Aoc just needs more time to develope into a vetran quarterback and develop his skills while practicing with Gardner who is more experienced.they both could throw 40 to 50 yards that is plenty.The coaching staff will train them in their weak areas.Ap is fortifying the offense and defense and special team not just for them but the whole raider orgaization and nation

They didnt forget about Jimmy G. They benched him. For the better QB which was Aiden. For the games he played Aiden played good. We dont know his ceiling yet. AP never said he didnt want Aiden.

AOC played good enough to get a chance to get the starting job in this year's training camp. If we draft a quarterback, it'll be an insurance policy in case our other QBs get injured. We're building a competent quarterback room. Development of young QBs takes time.
Guys Gardner minshew is borderline starter. I love his grit and is one heck of back up quarterback. Great pick up! Aiden will be the starter not unless they draft a guy. That is up in the air.

I think people look at his stats and not know how bad Aiden played last year. He didn’t make many mistakes at quarterback but he couldn’t do anything either. Aiden is a terrible back up at best. I would definitely draft a quarterback in the first round if I was Las Vegas.

Everyone argues that it was mcgenius calling plays, then mcgenius gets fired mid way through the season, and the qb coach takes over as play caller thats why he didnt do as good as he could. But these same people say carr was the problem and he wasnt a good qb. Carr had the raiders with mcgenius calling plays top 10 in scoring and passing. O'Connell injury prone jimmy the qbs these people that call eveyone else a fake raiders fans for not believing theyre good qbs had the raiders bottom 10 in passing and scoring😂
In 5 NFL seasons, Chris Simms was 7 - 9 , with 12 Touchdowns and 18 Interceptions.
Aiden O'Connel is already better than Simms with a 5 - 5 record, 12 TDs and 7 picks.

AOC is a starting QB 100 percent. I’m good with giving him the keys this year. I have confidence in that young man but if I did trade up it wouldn’t be for Caleb. I’d take maye over Caleb but I would only trade up for Jayden Daniels.
